Publication number: 20020023636Abstract: A heater provides both radiant heat and light. The heater provides radiant heat via a heater assembly which includes a gas burner heating a screen; the screen in turn provides radiant heat. The heater includes a light assembly which may provide light by, for example, burning gas fuel, or by other means such as electricity. The heater may include a heat reflector which can be removed and compacted or disassembled for storage. The light assembly may include easily removable glass panels surrounding the light source. Each glass panel is mounted to the lighting assembly by tabs extending from the bottom of the glass panel and a thumbscrew connection attaching the top portion of the glass panel to the lighting assembly. Hot exhaust gasses generated by the lighting assembly may escape through vents near the top of the lighting assembly, below the heating assembly.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 5, 2001Publication date: February 28, 2002Inventors: Jerald Ashton, Clyde Schulte, Randall L. Patent number: 5902100Abstract: A automatic ignition gas lantern includes baffle positioned near the outside of a mantle, so that gas flowing out of the mantle will be disturbed by the baffle. This sets up a region with a fuel/air mixture that can be easily and reliably ignited. A spark is then generated in this region, which ignites the gas and causes the mantle to glow brightly.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1997Date of Patent: May 11, 1999Assignee: The Coleman Company, Inc.Inventor: Norris R. Patent number: 5836757Abstract: A lantern includes an elongated tubular mantle which is attached to a burner assembly by a spring clip and an electronic ignitor for igniting fuel which flows into the mantle. The mantle is surrounded by a globe, and a wire guard surrounds the globe. A ventilator cap is removably attached to the burner assembly and to the wire guard so that the cap, wire guard, and globe can be removed as a unit from the burner assembly. A nut is rotatably captured on the ventilator cap for attaching the ventilator cap to the burner assembly. The fuel tank includes a wide, molded base which provides stable support. An air pump for the fuel tank includes a check valve which automatically opens and closes as air is pumped and a pressure indicator to indicate when the fuel tank reaches operating pressure. The pump is automatically lubricated on each stroke.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1995Date of Patent: November 17, 1998Assignee: The Coleman Company, Inc.Inventors: Norris R. Long, Randall L. Patent number: 4230446Abstract: An improved camp lantern comprising a spool fuel/air valve with OFF, START and RUN modes of operation is described. The spool valve is contained within a cylindrical valve chamber having fuel and air inlets and an outlet port leading to the lantern generator. The spool valve shaft also comprises a ramp contacting a cam follower for driving a rod and orifice cleaning needle. The needle enters and clears the generator orifice when the valve is in the OFF position. Thus, operating the valve in normal use also automatically clears the generator orifice. In addition to the operating convenience of this valve assembly, the parts count is low and the parts are easily machinable, making this lantern valve assembly reliable and economically producable in commercial quantities.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 1978Date of Patent: October 28, 1980Assignee: Acroform CorporationInventor: Robert E.
