Abstract: The cigarette lighter according to the invention comprises a pulse counter connected with a display and actioned by shutting the lighter cap. With the display there is also connected a timer, always operational, which is automatically set to zero when the figure indicated by the pulse counter moves one unit forward. In this way it is possible to control both the number of times the lighter has been used and the time interval between one lighting and the subsequent.
Abstract: A gas lighter includes a fuel container, a trigger and a fuel control knob in the handle, and a piezoelectric switch operable by said trigger in the nozzle, said nozzle being prolonged sufficiently to keep the operator's hand at a safe distance from the gas flames taking place at the terminating end of said nozzle, said trigger being in engagement with a slidable lever, which is connected to a valve of said container at one end and is in engagement with said switch at the other end, said trigger and said knob being located in a range reachable by fingers of the same hand to grasp said handle with.
Abstract: A hermetically-sealed pyrotechnic cap is described which includes a plastic (e.g. polyethylene) container and a quantity of pyrotechnic mixture therein. Closure of the container is achieved by heat-sealing an end thereof. A method for effecting the closure is also described.

Abstract: Control method and apparatus for optimizing the operation of a natural draft combustion zone through which a conduit containing a process fluid to be heated passes, by decreasing the supply of combustion air until one or more of the following predetermined limiting conditions is reached: maximum CO in the flue gas, minimum O.sub.2 in flue gas, minimum draft in the combustion zone, maximum temperature of the outer surface of said conduit, and increase in the rate of fuel addition above a minimum amount. When a limiting condition is reached, the supply of combustion air is increased until the limiting condition is no longer present, and the cycle then repeated.
Abstract: A photoflash lamp array of the FlipFlash type comprising a plurality of flash lamps, a reflector unit, a circuit board, and a flash indicator sheet. The reflector unit is provided with one or more indexing rim protrusions which extend into flash indicator openings in the circuit board for aligning the reflector unit to the circuit board.
Abstract: A flame-sensing system for a tangentially fired broiler in which a plurality of scanners are positioned on the side walls of the combustion chamber adjacent respective burners, and oriented to sight the flame from the respective burners, rather than the central fireball. Closely spaced coolant-carrying tubes lining the boiler walls are oriented with at least one tube in a serpentine pattern and with two or three tubes displaced laterally and rearwardly of the flame zone to provide space for a viewing port approximately the width of two tubes. The displacement pattern tends to dissipate the heat load on the scanner port to prevent scanner or boiler case overheating.

Abstract: A glowing wire type electric lighter or ignition system for a burner assembly in a gas heated stove having a vitreous ceramic cooking plate is provided. The system incorporates a direct warning indication not only that the associated burner assembly is "on" or "off", but also that the heated zone region of the cooking plate over such burner assembly remains too hot to be safely touched after such burner assembly has been switched off until such heated zone region has cooled to a predetermined harmless temperature.
Abstract: A cigarette lighter provided with a mechanism which may be preset to restrict the number of cigarettes to be lighted during a given period. The mechanism comprises a rod and cooperating lever and a ratchet gear operated by opening the cover of the lighter. Numbered graduations for showing the number of cigarettes allowed for a given period of time are marked on the ratchet gear.
Abstract: A flare gas stack is described with a purge gas conservation system adapted to control the flow of purge gas in accordance with the specific gravity of the purge gas, and prevailing conditions including cutting off the purge gas flow when conditions of waste gas flow and wind speed near the top of the stack permit. Provisions are made for visual observation of the waste gas flow, purge gas flow and purge failure.
Abstract: A system for creating an alarm whenever the pressure inside of a combustion furnace is higher than atmospheric pressure. The system uses a pressure reference comprising a chamber which is designed to average out momentary wind-induced fluctuations of pressure in the atmosphere and to provide a substantial volume of air inside the chamber which is maintained at an average value of atmospheric pressure. A conduit is passed through the wall of the furnace to the point under the furnace arch where the pressure is to be measured. This conduit is connected by a tubing to the chamber. A temperature sensing means is inserted in the conduit so as to measure the temperature of gas flowing through the tubing from, or to, the furnace. Normally, because of the draft in the furnace, air will flow from the chamber to the furnace.
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for detecting non-combusted fuel components in exhaust gases of a heating installation comprising a collector for collecting the non-combusted fuel components. The collector is provided with a probe serving to generate an electrical signal dependent upon the quantity of collected fuel components and with an electricaly operating element for the removal of the collected fuel components.
Abstract: A monitoring system is disclosed that is particularly well suited for use in connection with combustion in a cloud seeding generator. The monitoring system includes an indicator light the energization of which indicates a specific combustion state and normally indicates that combustion has occurred. Energization of the indicator light is controlled by a comparator which has one input connected with a thermocouple positioned in the combustion chamber to monitor the combustion state. The cloud seeding generator is preferably mounted in an aircraft and, when so mounted, the indicator light may be remotely located as, for example, on the aircraft instrument panel to indicate combustion and/or ignition as well as proper operation of the cloud seeding generator.
Abstract: A gas fired apparatus discharging a mixed gas-air flow through a barrel into a confined area such as a rodent burrow. An igniter in said barrel ignites the gas-air mixture. A control assembly includes closely coupled gas and ignition controls enabling one hand operation. An extensible, ground engaging support positions the apparatus in an inclined manner for barrel penetration of a burrow opening. A valve in said barrel regulates gas-air mixing.
Abstract: A kitchen range burner indicator. The burner indicator is mountable on the control panel of the kitchen range to correlate the burner elements and respective controls. The indicators are interchangeable, without forfeiture of the burner-control correlation.
Abstract: A duct burner primarily for use in raising the temperature of turbine exhaust gas (TEG) to a usable temperature to operate a steam generator or the like. The burner comprises an array of downstream facing burners capable of burning low grade fuel oil in a low oxygen environment, each burner being provided with gas burning backup and individual flame scan capabilities.

Abstract: A multiple photoflash lamp array is disclosed capable of producing a plurality of flashes for taking a plurality of flash pictures. The particular construction includes a reflector unit having a plurality of adjacent reflectors or reflector cavities, each having a photoflash lamp mounted therein on a common base and with said flashlamps being further operatively associated with a printed circuitboard member to enable flashing of the lamps individually and in sequence. Aperture means are also provided in the individual reflectors to permit the direct observation by eye of flash indicator means located behind the reflector unit.
