One or more spring elements are preferably provided for normally biasing the clamping members to their original position prior to assembly within the electrical device or connector. In one embodiment, the spring elements are integrally formed with the cover halves. In other embodiments, clamping members are provided with one or more spring elements or arms.

Abstract: A waterproof cover for a connector includes a rear holder portion attached to a rear portion of a connector housing to hold terminals inserted into terminal insertion holes of the connector housing from a rear side of the connector housing; and a waterproof cover portion attached to a rear side of the rear holder portion to cover wires extending rearward from the terminals. The waterproof cover has a pair of first and second cover halves; a hinge for linking a pair of the first and second cover halves so as to be opened and closed relative to each other; and a lock mechanism for locking a pair of the first and second cover halves when the two cover halves are closed. In particular, a front end surface of the first cover half is formed integrally with an outer circumference of the rear holder portion so as to form an end surface plate of the first cover half along roughly all over the circumference of the first cover half.

  • Patent number: 5545054
Abstract: An electrical connector includes a dielectric housing having a through axial passage for receiving therein an electrical terminal. A cover is hingedly connected to the housing for movement from an open position to a closed position, with the cover and the housing having respective juxtaposed walls bounding at least one lateral side of the passage when the cover is in its closed position. Complementary laterally engaging latches are provided between the juxtaposed walls to hold the cover in its closed position. The wall of the cover is juxtaposed inside the wall of the housing in a lateral direction. Therefore, lateral forces on the terminal biases the wall of the cover outwardly toward the wall of the housing to ensure engagement of the laterally engaging latches.

Abstract: An insulating housing for mounting in a mating female connector housing of an electrical connector, whereby the insulating housing is a two-piece construction including a housing member which receives a cover therein. The cover comprises a strain relief member which, in a preferred embodiment, is integrally formed as part of the cover and which comprises a plurality of teeth. When the cover is mounted in the insulating housing, the strain relief member may be pivoted from an unlocked to a locked position, whereupon the plurality of teeth bite into the insulation of the insulated wires, thereby relieving strain on the insulated wires.

Abstract: A unitary lampholder (10) including a lamp socket (12,14) as well as a multi-position switch which can take the form of a three-way, two circuit switch for operating a two filament lamp, a single circuit switch for operating a single filament lamp or arranged to permit the switch to be operated from a remote point. The lampholder has a bottom housing (14) and a top housing (12) which includes an access door (16) which is slidably and rotatably mounted to the remainder of the top housing by a guide member 54 which moves within slots (93,94) and permits the access door 16 to be rotated from a position on and perpendicular to the top housing axis to one parallel to that axis in which position it can be slidably moved towards the bottom housing. Upon slidably moving the access door towards the bottom housing, projections (160, 162) on the base of access door force insulated conductors (92,94) into the insulation displacing terminals (86,88) of the contacts (60,62) to make electrical contact therewith.
