  • Patent number: 8920184
Abstract: A high strength electrical connector includes an outer cylindrical, rigid support cover open at both ends and preferably comprised of a high strength metal. A first electrical lead extends through a tension bushing attached to one end of the support cover. A mating receptacle through which a second electrical lead passes is securely attached to a second opposed end of the support cover. Electrical connection between the ends of the first and second electrical leads is established within the support cover. Securely attaching the ends of the first and second electrical leads together within the support cover, which is preferably comprised of a high strength metal, directs axial and transverse forces exerted on the first electrical lead through the support cover, thus bypassing the electrical connection.

In one embodiment, a strain relief apparatus comprises: a main body having a base member including a first surface and a second surface, and a cone member extending from the first surface of the base member, the cone member including an orifice that penetrates through the main body to the second surface; a primary clamp that secures to the main body and shaped to interface with the base member to form a first set of clamping surfaces where the orifice penetrates the second surface; and a secondary clamp having a tapered cavity therein that penetrates through the secondary clamp and is shaped to receive the cone member. A surface of the tapered cavity and a surface of the cone member form a second set of clamping surfaces. The second set of clamping surfaces provide an electrical path to the chassis.

Abstract: A connector of termination assembly for a mini-coaxial cable in different embodiments is made up of an extension tip which is preassembled in a connector body to receive the inner conductor pin on the cable, a first inner sleeve which fits over an exposed end of the dielectric layer, a second outer sleeve which surrounds a compression ring, and a crimping ring is mounted on the outside of the outer sleeve to force the sleeves to be radially contracted into crimping engagement with the cable. Variations of the connector body may be employed for different types of connectors including modifications in the extension tip to facilitate insertion of the conductor into the assembly and color bands to signify the size of cable and intended application.

Abstract: A contact for coaxial cable attached to an end of a coaxial cable includes a contact part and a connection part. The connection part includes a conductor barrel, an open crimp barrel, and a junction band narrow in width. The conductor barrel is disposed on a side to a base end portion of the contact part and can crimp the inner conductor. The open crimp barrel is adjacent to the conductor barrel and can crimp an exposed portion of the dielectric body so as to surround the exposed portion of the dielectric body in a cylindrical shape. The junction band joins the conductor barrel with the open crimp barrel so as to bridge the two. The both end portions of the junction band are torn during or after crimping of the conductor barrel and the open crimp barrel.

Abstract: A coaxial connecter and a method for assembling the same are provided, in which there is little variation in the amount of holding an inner conductor between connection terminals and the connection between the inner conductor and the connection terminals is achieved with high reliability. The coaxial connector includes a housing, an inner contact, and an outer contact. The inner contact is secured to the housing and includes a conductor mounting portion and a conductor holding arm with a lock. The conductor holding arm is integrally formed with the conductor mounting portion. The outer contact is secured to the housing, as well. Either the housing or the conductor mounting portion is provided with a holding portion into which the lock is press-fitted when the conductor holding arm is folded toward the conductor mounting portion.
