Abstract: A multi-layered structure, and method for producing same, which may include at least one glass layer anodically bonded to an intermediate layer. The intermediate layer may function as an anodic bonding layer, an etch stop layer, and/or a hard mask layer. A template may be formed of the multi-layered structure by forming a desired pattern of openings therein by way of, for example, etching. Such a template may, for example, be used in the alignment and adherence of spacer structures to an electrode plate during the fabrication of flat panel displays. When used in this context, the construction of such a template results in more precise control of the patterning and sizing of the holes formed therein which thereby allows for more precise placement of spacer structures as well as the use of spacer structures exhibiting relatively higher aspect ratios during the fabrication of flat panel displays.

Abstract: In a discharge lamp sealing apparatus 30, luminescent substances are charged into an arc tube 11 through an opening 13b thereof, and an electrode member 15 is then inserted into the arc tube 11 through the opening 13b. A lower end of the arc tube 11 is supported by a support jig 57 in a state that a glass ring 16c is placed around the circumference of the opening 13b. The arc tube 11 is set in an air-tight condition by a feeding conduit 51 and inserted into a heating unit 40. The heating unit 40 fuses the glass ring 16c with heat of an infrared lamp and thereby seals the opening 13b. During the sealing process, one end of the arc tube 11 is supported by the support jig 57. The support jig 57 is mainly made of a material having a greater thermal conductivity than that of the material of the arc tube 11, for example, a metal material like Al or Cu. This arrangement enables heat to be readily conducted from the arc tube 11 to the support jig 57 and accordingly prevents a temperature rise in the arc tube 11.

Abstract: An apparatus for supporting a cathode-ray tube panel includes a pair of holders movable to come close to each other and to be separated from each other. Each holder includes elastic rollers. The panel is located between the rollers of the pair of holders. After the panel is located between the rollers of the holders, the holders are moved to a surfaces of the panel. The rollers of the holders are brought into contact with the surfaces of the panel. The holders are interlocked with an actuator. The actuator is interlocked with a lock plate through a ratchet mechanism. The holders can freely come close to each other by the ratchet mechanism although the lock plate is not pivoted. The holders can be brought into contact with panels having different sizes. In a contact state, the actuator locked with the lock plate through the ratchet mechanism is pivoted by a predetermined angle so as to cause the holders to come closer to each other. When the holders are thus moved, they are locked.
