Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for grinding grooves in the peripheral surface of rollers roller guides for rolling mills. The roller (2) of a roller guide is caused to rotate while retained on its own bearing (8,9,10) as the peripheral groove is ground.The invention also relates to an apparatus for carrying out the method, and to a roller guide structure with which the method can be applied.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for initially taking an individual bar from a supply of bars and placing it on an entry conveyor while preventing movement of the remaining bars. Other mechanisms are provided for adjusting the entry conveyor to accommodate the diameter of the bars to be ground. The individual bars to be ground are initially moved into position between a regulating wheel and a grinding wheel. The regulating wheel maintains the bar against the grinding wheel and the movement of the regulating wheel toward the grinding wheel during the grinding action is sensed by an encoder device. The encoder device in turn signals to a servomotor to move the grinding wheel an amount equal to but in the opposite direction to the regulating wheel to compensate for the wearing of the grinding wheel. The regulating wheel is set at a slight angle relative to the bar to impose a vector force that moves the bar through the grinding station to the exit conveyor from where the bar is subsequently moved to a holding area.

Abstract: A chamfer machine for providing a chamfer surface at the end of a workpiece. The machine includes a base and a guide member supported from the base for receiving the workpiece and disposed to enable the workpiece to move under gravity control. A rotary cutter is provided supported from the base with the cutter having a cutting surface adapted to engage the workpiece to provide a chamfering cut thereto as the workpiece is fed toward the cutting surface under substantially only gravity control.

Abstract: A multiple purpose lathe which can include a special valve polishing device, a camshaft lap device and other mechanisms. The valve polishing device includes a pair of generally axially parallel, rotatable rollers positioned to bear against and support a valve stem held therein while being polished by a movable belt. The camshaft lap device includes, optionally, a movable wheel bearing against the polishing belt which, in turn, bears against the camshaft being polished.
Abstract: A dual roll grinder employs a first and second work station including a dual drive headstock disposed therebetween. A grinding assembly and the dual drive headstock translatably move along a bed to engage rolls in either of the two stations. This permits unloading and loading of a new roll in the station not currently active.

Abstract: In a floor polisher for polishing a floor by rotating a pad by a motor while running the floor polisher by way of pushing an operation handle, a dust scattering prevention device in the floor polisher comprising a dust scattering prevention cover which is provided at least a lower end portion thereof with a ring-shaped core bar and the whole of which is formed into a generally skirt-like shape widened toward a lower end thereof, using a flexible cloth, the cover being attached to a lower end opening of a pad covering an upper surface side of the pad in such a manner as that a lower end portion of the cover is in contact with the floor.
Abstract: A lap blank and holder assembly includes a lap blank having two spaced apart flat surfaces separated by a given thickness and formed from a material capable of compressing about a member inserted into it. The holder has a projection extending outwardly from a front face thereof and is inserted into the material making up the lap to secure it against rotational and shifting movement while being cut in a surfacing machine. This arrangement further allows the assembly to be placed as an assembly in a finishing machine for subsequent polishing of a cut lens surface in an off-axis polishing procedure.
