Abstract: One embodiment is directed to a system for use with a coverage area in which one or more wireless units wirelessly transmit using a wireless radio frequency spectrum. The system comprises a first unit, and a plurality of second units communicatively coupled to the first unit using at least one communication medium. Each of the plurality of second units generates respective digital RF samples indicative of a respective analog wireless signal received at that second unit. Each of the plurality of second units communicates the respective digital RF samples generated by that second unit to the first unit using the at least one communication medium. The first unit digitally sums corresponding digital RF samples received from the plurality of second units to produce summed digital RF samples. The system is configured so that an input used for base station processing is derived from the resulting summed digital RF samples.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for method for providing cooperative reception diversity based on signal point rearrangement and superposition modulation performed at a relay station is discussed. A first technique performs superposition modulation at a relay station and a second technique employs signal point rearrangement at a relay station. The superposition modulation is a different type of superposition modulation than that employed by the transmitter of the signal. Similarly, the signal point rearrangement is a different type of signal point rearrangement than that employed by the transmitter of the signal. As a result of the superposition modulation or signal point rearrangement performed by the relay station, the reliability of a signal received by a reception unit at the destination receiver is improved.

  • Patent number: 8559611
Abstract: A communication system that includes multiple conferencing devices connected in a daisy-chain configuration is communicably connected to far-end conference participants. Multiple conferencing devices provide improved sound quality to the far-end participants by reducing aural artifacts resulting from reverberation and echo. The daisy-chain communication system also reduces the processing and transmission time of the near-end audio signal by processing and transmitting the audio signal in frequency domain. Each conferencing device in the daisy chain performs signal conditioning on its audio signal before transmitting it in the frequency domain to a mixer. The output signal of the mixer is converted back to the time domain before being transmitted to the far-end. The daisy-chain configuration also provides a distributed bridge to external communication devices that can be connected to each conferencing device.

Abstract: Disclosed are a system and method for controlling transmit power of a mobile node in air-to-ground communications to a fixed node. Power is controlled by taking into consideration the position of the mobile node, the ground position of a plurality of fixed nodes, and the RF pattern of an antenna. Preferably, a power level is selected that will excite the fewest number of the plurality of fixed nodes while still maintaining a stable connection with at least one of the fixed nodes. The system may also utilize a repeater to receive communication signals from one or more mobile phones. This repeater then pre-amplifies the signal with a gain control signal received from one of the plurality of fixed nodes. The repeater would then pass the pre-amplified signal to the power amplifier for further amplification as controlled by the power controller.

  • Patent number: 8244190
Abstract: A wireless relay node (100) comprises a receiving side (110) and a transmitting side (120) adapted for concurrent reception and transmission of an information stream, and at least one of the two sides has multiple antennas for multi-antenna operation. In the internal design, the wireless relay node is further configured (130) for cancelling signal feedback from a multi-antenna dependent feedback channel from the transmitting side to the receiving side based on an N×M dimensional filter matrix (135) dependent on the multi-antenna dependent feedback channel, where at least one of N and M is greater than 1. In this way, self-interference cancellation of a multi-antenna dependent feedback signal from the output to the input of the wireless relay node is effectively obtained.

  • Patent number: 8224238
Abstract: Provided is a radio communication method or the like for making compatible an improvement in error rate characteristics and a reduction in delay. The radio communication method is used in a mobile communication system including a mobile station, a relay station and a base station. A transmitted signal containing a signal addressed to the base station is transmitted at first from the mobile station to the relay station. A non-reproduced relay signal obtained in the relay station from the transmitted signal is transmitted from the relay station to the base station. On the basis of the reception result of the non-reproduced relay signal at the base station, a re-transmission request of the transmitted signal is transmitted from the base station. A reproduced relay signal, as obtained from the transmitted signal in the relay station, is transmitted from the relay station to the base station in accordance with the re-transmission request transmitted from the base station.

  • Patent number: 8184598
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for implementing low-cost Internet-base-station (LCIB) radio-frequency (RF) adaptation using stationary transceivers. In an embodiment, an LCIB emits a pilot beacon having an adjustable transmission-power level. The LCIB repeatedly wirelessly sends transmissions for receipt by each transceiver in a set of one or more stationary transceivers while increasing the power level at which the transmissions are sent. The transceivers are arranged to wirelessly send acknowledgements to the LCIB upon successful receipt of the transmissions. The LCIB receives at least one acknowledgement from a subset of the transceivers, and responsively sets the pilot-beacon transmission-power level equal to an operating value, which the LCIB selects based at least in part on a minimum transmission-sending power level needed to receive an acknowledgement from each transceiver in the subset.

  • Patent number: 8170477
Abstract: A wireless communication device includes a first receiver section and a second receiver section. The first receiver section receives a first probe signal from a first transceiver at time t1. The second receiver section receives a second probe signal from a second transceiver at time t2, wherein the first and second probe signals have substantially similar carrier frequencies. The first receiver section then receives a first signal from the first transceiver and the second receiver section receives a second signal from the second transceiver in accordance with an adjusted delay. The first and second signals have similar content and have substantially similar carrier frequencies. The adjust delay corresponds to a delta time that is substantially equal to a difference between the time t1 and the time t2 when the difference between the time t1 and the time t2 compares unfavorably to a delay threshold.

Abstract: In an indoor positioning system, for establishment of a cost sharing system, the positioning information transmission device does not directly transmit positional information but performs concealment and variablization on the device ID and transmits the concealed and variablized device ID. The positioning information management server stores and manages correspondence between the device IDs and positional information, and performs conversion from the device ID to the positional information in accordance with the correspondence. Further, the problem of conflict between concealed IDs upon concealment of positioning identification information by the positioning information transmission devices, which occurs when all the positioning information transmission devices use the same secret key, can be prevented. The system can be operated even when the bit length of the device ID is short.
