  • Patent number: 11083044
Abstract: In a 5th-Generation (5G) cellular communication network, charging customers for data usage is performed by a network function referred to as a charging function (CHF). A session management function (SMF) of the network repeatedly sends update requests to reserve additional data for a data session. If the CHF is not available and the SMF does not receive a response to an update message, the SMF continues to assign data for the data session, even though it has not received authorization to do so from the CHF. When the CHF becomes available, the SMF sends a request to start a second data session to continue the data connection that was previously supported by the original data session. This request specifies the amount of data that was used in the original data session without being confirmed by the CHF, allowing the CHF to account for this data usage.

  • Patent number: 10931830
Abstract: In a system in which a wireless access network and another network are connected to each other, an accurate fee is charged in a case where data held in an application server disposed in the wireless access network is used. The application server holds an application and data relating to the application. A usage mode information generating unit generates usage mode information which is information relating to a usage mode when the wireless terminal uses the held data. A network data usage amount measuring unit measures a network data usage amount when the wireless terminal uses data on another network via a wireless access network connected to the wireless terminal. A fee charging unit charges a fee on the basis of the measured network data usage amount and charge a fee on a basis of the generated usage mode information.

Abstract: Techniques for identifying and remedying performance issues of Virtualized Network Functions (VNFs) are discussed. An example system includes processor(s) configured to: process VNF Performance Measurement (PM) data received from a network Element Manager (EM) for a VNF; determine whether the VNF has a negative performance issue based on the VNF PM data; request that the EM create a Virtualization Resource (VR) PM job associated with a VR of the VNF when the VNF has the negative performance issue; process VR PM data received from the EM; determine whether to restart the VNF based on the VR PM data and the VNF PM data; and request a network function virtualization orchestrator (NFVO) to restart the VNF based on a determination to restart the VR.

  • Patent number: 10896437
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media for optimizing and reporting time spent by a user engaged in a session. The system first obtains data associated with a presentation of an item of content at a mobile device, the presentation being divided into multiple partitions. Based on the data, the system adjusts at least one respective length of time associated with the multiple partitions to yield at least one adjusted length of time, the at least one adjusted length of time reflecting estimated time of user engagement with content associated with at least one of the multiple partitions. The system then determines an amount of time spent by a user at the mobile device engaging in the presentation based on the at least one adjusted length of time and the multiple partitions.
