  • Patent number: 10205774
Abstract: In a system for providing data and/or computational services, various resources are assigned a sort of points (called vouchers or IOUs) for work manager threads that are currently queued at each resource. When a resource (and its associated resource manager) has a relatively small queue, whereby the resource is holding a relatively small number of points, that resource will be assigned work manager threads for incoming services requests at a high preference, or priority. In this way, faster performing resources can more reliably be supplied with new requests, while relatively slow performing resources will tend not to unduly tie up limited work manager threads in long queues at the slow resources.

Abstract: An apparatus for facilitating toll free data access includes a processor and memory storing executable computer code causing the apparatus to at least perform operations including sending a request to a device requesting identification of one or more content providers that provide data to users in which the content providers pay for data, accessed from the content providers, on behalf of users. The accessed data is not considered data usage accrued by the users during a billing cycle or against a prepaid data plan. The computer program code may further cause the apparatus to receive an indication from the device of a content provider(s) that pays for the provision of the data on behalf of users. The computer program code may further cause the apparatus to determine whether a selected content provider pays for the provision of the data to users. Corresponding methods and computer program products are also provided.

Abstract: A global data service connection manager determines a shared data account balance for data available to a user as a function of data amounts previously made available to a shared data system by the first user for the use of other registered users. In response to a request by the first user to execute a data transaction by using data from the shared system, the shared data account balance and the data available at the brokered purchase price are automatically arbitrated to acquire at least one of data from a wireless service account of another registered user of the shared system in an amount that does not exceed the first user's shared data account balance, and data purchased from a wireless service account of another registered user of the shared system in a purchased amount that does not exceed data available at a brokered purchase price.

  • Patent number: 10097587
Abstract: A network environment includes a wireless access point providing access to a corresponding network. One or more mobile communication devices communicate with the wireless access point to access the network. In response to receiving a request from a mobile communication device to establish the wireless communication link, the wireless access point conveys communications between the mobile communication device and a remote server to authenticate the mobile communication device. During authentication, the wireless access point receives a policy assigned to the mobile communication device. The policy specifies how to route subsequent received data traffic from the mobile communication device. Subsequent to authentication, the wireless access point routes the subsequent data traffic received from the mobile communication device in accordance with the received policy.

  • Patent number: 10057432
Abstract: In a method of payment for service of a portable communication unit, a customer prepays a dealer for said service, the dealer forwards transaction order information about the pre-payment to a prepaid management center (PMC); and the PMC provides a bank the transaction order information. The bank, upon receipt of the transaction order information from the PMC, determines whether there are sufficient funds in the dealer account to cover the transaction. If there is insufficient cash on hand, the dealer is notified and is provided an opportunity to replenish the account so that the transaction may proceed. If there are adequate funds in the dealer account, the bank automatically transfers the amount of the purchase transaction in the SPS account, less the dealer's fee for the purchase. After funds are transferred from the dealer account, the PMC is notified of the transfer, at which time the PMC generates codes and issues the codes to the dealer.
