Load Balancing Patents (Class 455/453)
  • Patent number: 9980192
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for steering a UE (103) from a WLAN (105) to a cellular network (106) with an overlapping coverage area. The UE (103) is connected to the WLAN (105) through an access point (AP) (102). The AP (102) suppresses the broadcast of a network identifier of the WLAN (105) and de-authenticates the UE (103) from the WLAN (105). After de-authenticating the UE (103), the AP (102) ignores probe requests from the UE (103). The UE (103) will conclude that the WLAN (105) is no longer available and will connect to the cellular network. From the perspective of the UE (103), the suppression of the network makes it appear to the UE (103) that it has moved out of range of the AP (102) so the UE (103) will not “blacklist” the WLAN (105). The suppression of the network ID will not impact UEs not targeted, which will continue to communicate via WLAN (105) even when the network ID is suppressed.

  • Patent number: 9980310
Abstract: A method of enhanced session management procedure is proposed. A user equipment, upon receiving a rejected PDN connectivity request with a cause code, automatically alters the rejected factor to fit network restrictions based on the received cause code. The UE then retries the PDN connectivity procedure by sending a subsequent PDN connectivity request using the altered factor. By automatically altering the rejected factor and reattempting to establish an EPS bearer for data service without user interaction, possible permanent rejection can be avoided in case of user error or unawareness.

  • Patent number: 9900251
Abstract: Minimum guaranteed wireless network bandwidth is provided to client network devices by monitoring the performance of network connections to identify client network devices experiencing network congestion. Congested network connections are then analyzed to determine the source of the network congestion. Depending upon the source of the network congestion, an embodiment of the invention may undertake steps to either improve the quality of the network connection or to mitigate the impact of this network connection on other network connections. High quality network connections may be allocated additional bandwidth, airtime, or other resources to reduce the network congestion. Low quality network connections are not allocated additional bandwidth, airtime, or other resources. Instead, the impact of this network connection on the other network connections is mitigated.

Abstract: In an embodiment, an apparatus (e.g., a client device, an eNodeB, MME, S-GW, P-GW, UTRAN component, etc.) detects a first transition of a client device from an active state to an idle state while the client device is allocated a Quality of Service (QoS) link by a serving network. The apparatus caches QoS information associated with the QoS link, and releases the QoS link in response to the detection of the first transition. The apparatus later detects, after the caching and releasing, a second transition of the client device from the idle state back to the active state. The apparatus re-establishes the QoS link in response to the detection of the second transition using the cached QoS information.
