  • Patent number: 9779620
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for obtaining traffic information using the billing information of a mobile terminal. A specified number of a mobile terminal is obtained from billing information necessary for performing a billing operation when a telephone call is made using the mobile terminal on a highway (S61, S62 and S63). The moving time of the mobile terminal between base stations is tracked (S65), such that information of a traffic state on the highway can be obtained in real time (S66). The existing mobile communication network is employed to obtain the traffic information, such that the cost required for operating special vehicles for collecting traffic information and for obtaining traffic information from information providers can be reduced. Customer demand can be met as a measurement operations is continuously carried out and the traffic information abruptly changed is reflected in real time.

  • Patent number: 9766087
Abstract: A wireless client-server (WCS) navigator provides routes optimized for travel time based on traffic flow rate and incident data, inexpensively and in a timely manner. A server, having a database of geographical information including road segments at a server, receives information representing traffic flow rates or traffic incidents along the road segments. This allows a route to be generated that is optimized to minimize travel time along the road segments based upon the traffic flow rates or traffic incidents. The route is then transmitted to a mobile client. Typically, though not necessarily, the route is generated in response to a request from a mobile client. Some travel time estimates may be based on historical traffic flow rate data or speed limit data rather than current information. Traffic flow rate or traffic incident data associated with the transmitted route may be transmitted to a client along with the route.

  • Patent number: 9749786
Abstract: Determining a location of a user device comprises a wireless system supported by wireless access points receiving signals from a user device. The wireless system estimates a location of the user device based on a coarse calculation based on an angle of arrival of the received signal and determines if the user device is in an area under a access point. If so, the wireless system performs a fine location calculation. The wireless system identifies received signal strength indicator values for the user device and uses the values and the calculated location of the user device to improve calibration of a received signal strength location model. If the system determines that the user is not in the area under the access point, the wireless system combines the coarse calculation location and a received signal strength determined location and estimates a location based on the combined calculations.

  • Patent number: 9709409
Abstract: A mobile device can obtain wireless network signal strength map data that indicates, for various nearby geographical regions, the wireless network signal strength in each such region. A mobile device can transmit that data to a vehicular navigation system responsible for automatically selecting a high-quality route of vehicular travel between a specified source and destination. The system can take the wireless network signal map data into account when selecting that route. When selecting from among multiple different routes of vehicular travel between a specified source and destination, the system may employ an algorithm that considers wireless network signal strengths along those routes, in addition to the other factors. Consequently, the system can select a longer route having better signal strength over a shorter route having worse signal strength. The system can present the selected route within a set of suggested routes, potentially along with reasons for each route's suggestion.

Abstract: A navigation server as part of a vehicle navigation system provides a set of turn-by-turn directions to a vehicle driver from the vehicle's current location to a destination chosen by the driver. Further, a navigation server receives new route requests because a vehicle driver disregards a previous a maneuver contained in a previous set of turn-by-turn directions. The navigation server tracks vehicle locations whereat new routes have been requested. If a large number of new route requests occur in a given location, the system analyzes this location to determine whether the location is one where poor directions are given. Improved directions may thus be generated and provided.

  • Patent number: 9319868
Abstract: A system for detecting state transitions when apparatuses move between significant places or routes without having to employ high resolution, and high energy cost, localization technologies. Apparatuses may receive position information via lower resolution/lower energy cost localization resources, and this information may be used to determine whether the current position of the apparatus corresponds to a significant place or route. If the apparatus is determined to be positioned in a significant place or route, a further determination may be made as to whether at least one second level classifier exists for the significant place or route. Second level classifiers may be utilized to determine when apparatuses transition from one state (e.g., one significant place or route) to another. Upon detection of a state transition based on the second level classifier, a new localization configuration may be applied in the apparatus.
