  • Patent number: 7613289
Abstract: The present invention provides a telephony-accessed application system for providing a service, such as voicemail, in accordance with a switching interface such as in the ITU-T H.323 or IETF SIP recommendation. Queuing functionality is made possible in a system which employs a switch which does not support queuing. The queuing functionality is made possible by a queue means which is provided within an application means, i.e. the voicemail means itself. Consequently, the switch itself is relieved of the burden of having to keep track of the exact status of each of its ports at all times. The high-level queuing is performed at a logical level rather than at the physical level, and therefore affords a cleaner interface. Furthermore, the implementation of the queuing functions in the terminating application means allows for the use of a wider variety of intermediate switch means in a network.

Abstract: A system and method of automatically transferring a call between telephones based on the distance between the two telephones is provided. First the proximity of a first telephone to a second telephone is determined. If the proximity is within a predetermined limit or threshold, calls directed to the first telephone are transferred to the second telephone. Security of the transfer may be ensured to prevent fraudulent use of the subscription of either telephone. Procedures are provided which permit any the above-mentioned steps to be performed either at the level of the individual telephones involved in the transfer, or by an element of the network, such as an SC or HLR.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for managing the distribution of data objects in a communication network are disclosed. In an exemplary method, such as might be implemented at a data object server, a plurality of data objects corresponding to a first user of a first communication device are stored. State information for the first communication device is received from the first device. The occurrence of a trigger event related to communications between the first communication device and a second communication device is detected, and one of the stored data objects is selected, based on the detected trigger event and the received state information, and forwarded to the second communication device. In some embodiments, the selection of the data object is further based on an identifier corresponding to the second communication device.

  • Patent number: 7567656
Abstract: A cordless slave apparatus is connected to a host apparatus connected to lines via wireless communications. When the cordless slave apparatus is picked up from a charging apparatus to respond to a call from any of the lines, if the line at which the call has arrived has been selected by the cordless slave apparatus, the line is connected immediately and communications can start. If the line is not selected by the cordless slave apparatus, when a connection instruction from the user is provided, the line is connected and communications can start. When calls have arrived from lines simultaneously, communications can start by capturing a line according to a connection instruction. When a call from another line has arrived during communications, the lines are switched according to a switching instruction from the user and the line through which the communications have been performed is automatically turned to be on hold.

Abstract: Various embodiments of the present invention are directed to systems and method for detecting conflicts and applying conflict resolutions during manual and automatic conflict resolution operations. Several embodiments are directed to preventing both: (a) non-convergence of conflict resolutions, where partners can end up in a divergent steady state (i.e. have different data in the absence of outstanding conflicts); and (b) a non-terminating ping-pong of conflict resolutions between partners (which can occur with certain inefficient solutions that continuously update metadata for each conflict resolution without end). Certain specific embodiments of the present invention are directed to a method for maintaining knowledge that guarantees convergence of data, even when different partners apply different conflict resolutions.

Abstract: Methods to create a cellular-like communication system, such as a Wireless Private Branch Exchange (WPBX), which includes mobile devices such as standard cordless phones (handsets), particularly, mobile devices utilizing the Bluetooth short-range wireless communication protocol. The methods provide seamless and reliable handoff of sessions between Base Stations while the mobile device is moving between picocells, by implementing a high-level of synchronization between the Base Stations and the Switch. Base Stations of picocells having small coverage areas communicate with the handsets. The communication protocol is divided into a low-level protocol performed by the Base Stations and a high-level protocol performed by the Switch connected to all the Base Stations. The methods support mobile computing or telephony devices and communication protocols, which are not specified to handle handoffs of sessions while moving between Base Stations coverage areas in a data, voice or telephony wireless network.

  • Patent number: 7486628
Abstract: Currently, networks are used within most enterprises to allow for sharing of resources such as printers and to allow for central server features to be available such as backup operations, shared files, and internal email. With the introduction of the third generation of wireless communication networks in which a mobile station can have an always on capability, private networks can now be established between mobile stations. In these implementations, the mobile stations each have a Home Location Registration (HLR) and a unique Internet Protocol (IP) address. The mobile stations within a private network are listed within a table stored in the intelligent peripheral by their HLRs. The intelligent peripheral regulates the flow of data units within the wireless network by determining if the sender of a packet and the intended recipient are within the same private network.

  • Patent number: 7324559
Abstract: This invention synchronizes the sample clocks of an entire wireless network from a single central base station. Unlike a conventional digital radio network where every terminal must have a synchronization circuit in its receiver to adjust the sample clock, each of the radio terminals in this network is clocked from an independent free-running oscillator. For each terminal, the base station learns the frequency and phase of the oscillator by exchanging a special set of signals: first a vernier signal to determine the initial time and frequency offset, and then an early-late signal to track changes in the oscillator. Once the base station is synchronized to the terminal's oscillator, it can determine the absolute path delay between itself and the terminal and correct for the delay using an equalizer. Signals received from the terminal are corrected after the signal arrives at the base station.
