  • Patent number: 9414239
Abstract: A space time calibration method determines location and timing for nodes in a network using a model of the state of clocks in the network nodes and observations of clock count stamps over an observation interval. At least one of the nodes in the network is moving, and the nodes have free running clocks, with corresponding clock error parameters. The method obtains observations of clock stamps for transmissions between nodes occurring over a time interval. It applies the observations to a model of network state, and generates from the model an update of network state. This update is a function of the observations and an estimate of the network state. The network state provides estimates of location parameters and clock parameters of the nodes in the network.

Abstract: Methods (400, 500) and apparatus (16, 24) are disclosed for reporting and processing MBMS counting results. According to one exemplary embodiment, a base station counting request received from a MCE includes an update time, and identifiers for one or more MBMS services (402, 502). The base station includes the update time with its reported counting results (410). The MCE uses the update time to identify the transmitted counting request (506), and ignores counting data for services not identified in the request (516). In the same or another embodiment, if the base station has not received MBMS counting results from its supported UEs for one or more of the identified services within a defined reporting window (406), the base station transmits an empty list of service identifiers to the MCE (408). The MCE correspondingly determines that the base station has not yet received MBMS counting results for one or more of the identified services based on receiving the empty list (508, 510).

Abstract: Mobile broadband traffic has been exploding in wireless networks resulting in an increase of interferences and reduced operator control. Networks are also becoming more heterogeneous putting additional demand in interference management. Scheduler schedules uplink transmissions from UEs based on a load prediction algorithm that typically assumes worst case. However, UEs do not always use full power granted, and thus, much of granted radio resources are wasted. To address these and other issues, technique(s) to accurately predict/estimate other cell interferences and thermal noise separately and to accurately predict/estimate load utilization probability and variance is(are) described. Inventive estimation technique(s) can be used to schedule UEs to more fully utilize available radio resources. Extended Kalman filtering can be adapted for use in estimation providing low order computational complexity.

The controller receives a talk group affiliation request from the foreign radio and, responsive to determining that the first RF site is in the incident event mode, affiliates the foreign radio with dedicated foreign radio talk group that is assigned to the first RF site, associated with at least one of a system identifier, a Wide Area Communication Network identifier and a talk group identifier provided by the foreign radio, and/or associated with the talk group identifier provided by the foreign radio and included in a master list including talk group IDs associated with a function.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically switching functions associated with a leading radio to another radio on a channel is disclosed. The method includes receiving, from a leading radio by at least one other radio operating on a channel, an associated timing signal via at least one control timing message. Other radios use the timing signal to synchronize transmissions made on the channel. The method also includes receiving, by the other radios, an indication that the leading radio can no longer provide control timing messages. The method further includes maintaining, by each radio on the channel, values for various elements associated with radios operating on the channel and selecting a new leading radio from the other radios based on priorities of the various elements.

Abstract: Apparatuses and methodologies are described that mitigate signal pollution in a wireless communication system. According to one aspect, user devices can request signals for use in access point selection. Access points can be selected based upon the received strength of their signals. In one aspect, access points can delay the transmission of signals based upon the strength of the received request. In addition, if sufficient access points respond during the delay, an access point can refrain from transmitting signals in response to signal requests, further reducing signal pollution.

Abstract: A precoding weight generation method involves generating a channel matrix having channel state information transmitted as feedback from mobile stations undergoing spatial multiplexing for each cell that base stations manage, and generating precoding weights. When data transmission is targeted for a first mobile station that transmits the channel state information as feedback as well as transmits the channel state information to a weight generation target cell that is a target for generation of precoding weights, precoding weights are generated so as not to suppress interference on a second mobile station that transmits the channel state information as feedback as well as transmits the channel state information to the weight generation target cell, while suppressing interference on a third mobile station that does not transmit the channel state information as feedback except to the weight generation target cell.
