Abstract: A method and system are provided that examine incoming and outgoing TTY transmissions to determine an identifier for distinguishing between correspondents in a TTY call. The system may utilize existing contact information associated wit an incoming call to provide context to a user for accepting incoming calls and during conversations and may apply various display settings. For TTY users, the additional context simplifies the ability to conduct critical reasoning, especially those with cognitive impairments. In particular, a picture from the user's address book is provided to assist in identifying the caller. The other display settings may include modified font styles, colors, multi-line display etc. to differentiate between incoming and outgoing messages.

Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate updating an access terminal's capability information in a wireless access node. Upon detecting a change in its capabilities, the access terminal transmits a message to the access node indicating the change. The message triggers the access node to determine the capability change associated with the access terminal, and to update its records to indicate the new capability information.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for transmitting and a method for reconstructing channel quality information in a communication system. Further, the invention also provides a transmitter and receiver performing these methods, respectively. The invention suggests a scheme for communicating channel quality measures that on the one hand allows for an accurate reconstruction of the channel quality measures at the receiver and on the other hand requires an acceptable transmission overhead. This is achieved by partitioning channel quality measures into at least two partitions and to compress the values partition-wise, for example by means of a discrete cosine transform and the transmission of only a subset of the resulting coefficients.

  • Patent number: 7650160
Abstract: A method of determining at least an estimate of media latency for push-to-talk communications includes determining a first time associated with transmitting a first packet from a push-to-talk transceiver device. In a disclosed example, the same device receives a second packet that corresponds to the first packet and includes an indication of the first time, a second time associated with receipt of the first packet by another device such as a push-to-talk server and a third time associated with transmission of the second packet to the push-to-talk transceiver device. That same device determines a fourth time associated with receipt of the second packet. In a disclosed example, the push-to-talk transceiver device uses a relationship between the first time, second time, third time and fourth time for determining at least an estimate of media latency associated with the push-to-talk communication corresponding to the first and second packets. A plurality of latency test procedures are disclosed.

Abstract: A method and system for communication involving a mobile station and one or more radio base stations providing a signal field in an area, is provided. One implementation includes determining signal field variation at a mobile station in said area due to motion of the mobile station relative to the base stations; and predicting the time remaining to an eventual drop of the signal field by estimating the time remaining to an eventual drop of the signal field based on a rate of variation of the signal field.

Abstract: Maintaining information about radio transmission sites in a computer accessible database. In one aspect this is a living database consisting of hundreds of thousands of wireless sites and their unique characteristics. The database includes energy transmissions information including site specific physical locations and utilization characteristics of the sites. The System can deliver MPE maps of radio frequency radiation and site specific safety programs to any worker visiting a wireless site in the United States. These maps (and site's specific safety programs) are updated on a daily basis. The System can be accessed via the Internet by registered users. The System creates and displays MPE maps and radiation pattern maps showing gradation power densities to identify exposure dangers.

  • Patent number: 7606543
Abstract: The quality of radio frequency signals received at a mobile phone or cellphone is sampled. The results are employed to produce a human discernible indication such as by blinking a received signal strength bar on a display. The bar remains constant without blinking if the signal quality is at or below a preselected minimum and can have the blinking rate increase as the sensed signal quality decreases. Distortion can be determined in either the digital or analog mode. Digital signal quality can be reflected in the sensed bit error rate while the level of analog signal quality can be determined from the supervisory audio tone.

Abstract: Method and apparatus to monitor MQoS of wireless mobile devices is described. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a method to monitor the health of 3G mobile devices and provide a status check of such health to network technicians, supervisors, and management. In one aspect, mobile devices on the network perform measurement of MQoS factors that are reported to a quality of service backend. The MQoS data is combined to show current and historical network status. In another aspect, alarms may be set to notify specific managers when manager programmable conditions occur, such as low system performance, or specific error conditions occur. Reports may be generated summarizing and illustrating performance in tabular and graphical form. Parameters used for testing and monitoring mobile devices may be input to specific mobile devices or groups of mobile devices in a system.

Abstract: A method for transmitting encoded traffic messages via a data channel, which is reserved for transmitting encrypted traffic messages, a certain subset of traffic messages being in general transmitted via the data channel in unencrypted form. For the encryption of the traffic messages, in each case only one of at least two components of the traffic message being encrypted. The unencrypted component containing information, or information is assigned to the unencrypted component as to whether the first component of the traffic message is encrypted, traffic message transmitter and receiver. Particularly important traffic messages may be transmitted via encrypted channels in a manner that also allows receivers that are not designed to decrypt encrypted messages to output these traffic messages or to process them further in other ways.
