Abstract: A multistage gas washing system is applied for dust separation from crude gases of entrained flow gasification of pulverized fuels under pressures up to 10 MPa and temperatures which are greater than the melting point of the fuel ash. A first stage comprises a modified quenching system and a downstream washing column, which operates as a bubble column. A second washing stage comprises one or more Venturi washers connected in series. A third washing stage comprises multiple high-pressure atomization units of washing water, a partial condenser for cooling the crude gas by 1 to 15° C. with condensate formation, and a separation column, which is equipped with washing surfaces and a plastic-coated demister.

  • Publication number: 20140259923
Abstract: A refinery system is provided. The refinery system includes a feedstock supply line, a first endothermic chamber that receives feedstock from the feedstock supply and processes the feedstock under elevated heat during a first time period, a second endothermic chamber that receives feedstock from the feedstock supply under elevated heat during a second time period, and a refining processor downstream and in communication with each of the first chamber and the second chamber. A related method is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20140182205
Abstract: A rotating heat regenerator is used to recover heat from the syngas at it exits the reactor vessel of a waste or biomass gasifier. In some embodiments, three or more streams are passed through the heat exchanger. One stream is the dirty syngas, which heats the rotating material. A second stream is a cold stream that is heated as it passes through the material. A third stream is a cleaning stream, which serves to remove particulates that are collected on the rotating material as the dirty syngas passes through it. This apparatus can also be used as an auto-heat exchanger, or it can exchange heat between separate flows in the gasifier process. The apparatus can also be used to reduce the heating requirement for the thermal residence chamber (TRC) used downstream from the gasification system.

  • Publication number: 20080115415
Abstract: Production of synthetic liquid hydrocarbon fuel from carbon containing moieties such as biomass, coal, methane, naphtha as a carbon source and hydrogen from a carbon-free energy source is disclosed. The biomass can be fed to a gasifier along with hydrogen, oxygen, steam and recycled carbon dioxide. The synthesis gas from the gasifier exhaust is sent to a liquid hydrocarbon conversion reactor to form liquid hydrocarbon molecules. Unreacted CO & H2 can be recycled to the gasifier along with CO2 from the liquid hydrocarbon conversion reactor system. Hydrogen can be obtained from electrolysis of water, thermo-chemical cycles or directly by using energy from carbon-free energy sources.

  • Patent number: 6039774
Abstract: A self-sustaining system for converting organic waste feedstreams into usable solid and gas end products includes a plurality of interconnected retorts, an apparatus for flash pyrolyzing the feedstream to form intermediate gas and solid products, a source for introducing a water spray to refine and cool the intermediate products, a device for separating the gas product from the solid product and a device for regenerating, and thereby further refining, the solid product. In a self-sustaining process, wastes which would otherwise be landfilled are converted to an activated carbon product and a combustible gas mixture of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and lower hydrocarbons.
