Patent number: 6595907Abstract: A heat roller for a fixing device included in an image forming apparatus has an insulation layer and a conductive layer sequentially formed on the inner periphery thereof. To form each of the insulation layer and conductive layer, a spray gun is inserted into the heat roller. Subsequently, paint, which is a liquid for forming the insulation layer or the conductive layer, is fed under pressure to the spray gun. The paint is radially jetted via the holes of the spray gun and evenly deposits on the inner surface of the heat roller. In this condition, the spray gun is moved in a preselected direction in order to coat the entire inner periphery of the heat roller. After the insulation layer has been formed and then sintered, the conductive layer is formed on the insulation layer and then sintered. The two layers can be formed in a short period of time and provides the heat roller with high quality at low cost. A method of producing the heat roller is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 2000Date of Patent: July 22, 2003Assignees: Ricoh Company, Ltd., Origin Electric Company, Limited, Tohoku Ricoh Co., Ltd.Inventors: Chuji Ishikawa, Takayuki Kuga, Yasuhiro Genjima, Haruo Ninomiya, Youichi Ueda, Kazunori Kon

Patent number: 6589648Abstract: A roll of material, e.g., thermoplastic ribbon comprises a hollow core made of a plastic strip of which the ends are mutually joined by overlapping, and the core's outer surface facing the material to be wound being of a nature opposing slippage of the material on it. The plastic strip includes an adhesive-coated foil of which the adhesive-fitted surface forms the outer core surface facing the material. The first winding layer facing the core bonds to this core and, as a result, the finished roll is made mechanically strong and this strength can be enhanced by an adhesive-coated plastic foil tautly enclosing the outside of the roll and fitted with a projecting, adhesive free or adhesive-neutralized tear-open tab.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 1999Date of Patent: July 8, 2003Assignee: Signode Bernpak GmbHInventor: Karl Schurig

Publication number: 20030125177Abstract: A method of manufacturing a charge roller utilizes a foam rubber substance where epichlorohydrin oxide rubber and an acrylonitrile butadiene rubber are mixed at a ratio of 5:95, or utilizing a crosslinking rubber substance consisting of epichlorohydrin oxide rubber and acrylonitrile butadiene rubber having a polar low molecular polymeric characteristic, thus allowing the charge roller to maintain a low volume resistivity of 107 &OHgr;cm to 108 &OHgr;cm. As a result, the surface of a photosensitive drum can be charged by a minimum charging voltage, to thereby significantly reduce an amount of ozone. A method of manufacturing a charge roller employs peroxide as a cross linking agent for rapidly cross-linking molecular chains between an epichlorohydrin oxide rubber and acrylonitrile butadiene rubber forming a main composition of a foam rubber substance.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 8, 2003Publication date: July 3, 2003Inventors: Hae-Seog Jo, Hee-Won Jung

Patent number: 6580892Abstract: A shaft is disclosed, having good electroconductivity and an electroconductive elastic layer which is formed on the outside periphery of the shaft, and which has a thermal conductivity of at least 0.15 W /m·K; and an image formation apparatus equipped with the developing roller. The above developing roller is capable of suppressing temperature rise of the roller surface, thereby preventing a developer from being adhesively fixed to the roller surface, suppressing wear on the roller surface, suppressing the generation of cracking, crazing and the like on the roller end, and thus affording favorable images for a long period of time.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 2001Date of Patent: June 17, 2003Assignee: Bridgestone CorporationInventor: Takao Ohuchi

Patent number: RE38468Abstract: A replaceable sleeve having a working surface is provided which is adapted to be mounted on a carrier. The sleeve includes an inner polymeric layer, a reinforcing layer overlying the inner layer, an intermediate polymeric layer overlying the reinforcing layer, and an outer polymeric layer. The sleeve may include a cushion layer between the intermediate layer and the outer layer. The layers comprising the sleeve are formed around a support and then cured simultaneously in a single step. The resulting sleeve may be used in printing operations or in other applications such as coating, embossing, laminating, calendering and the like.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2001Date of Patent: March 23, 2004Assignee: Day International, Inc.Inventors: William James Lane, III, Michael Edward McLean, Thomas Gerald Ferguson
