  • Patent number: 4998307
Abstract: An infant restraint device is provided for securing and supporting an infant inside a motor vehicle. The device includes a shell assembly having upper and lower shell portions pivotally coupled together. The upper shell portion can be positioned in either a first generally planar orientation or in a second angular orientation with respect to the lower shell portion. A locking mechanism is provided for securing the upper and lower shell portions together in either the first or second orientations. In the first generally planar orientation, the device provides a car bed for the infant. In the second angular orientation, the device provides a standard rear-facing infant seat. A collapsible lower support surface provides a seat for the infant when the device is in the angular orientation. The lower support surface bends along a flexible portion when the upper shell portion of the device moves to the planar orientation to provide a generally planar support surface for the infant.

  • Patent number: 4943105
Abstract: An invention made from three fabric covered panels for supporting and protecting pets and cargo in the back seat of an automobile. Bottom and front rigid panels fold into an "L" shape by the inclusion of a fold line in a single rigid material enclosed in a fabric pouch. The bottom and front panels extend over and close off the lower floor compartment and front seat opening, therefore, preventing the pet or cargo from falling forward into these areas of the automobile. Continuous fabric straps attach to and extend from the fabric pouch providing structural integrity to the invention in its installed position by securing to specific attachment points of the automobile. The bottom and front rigid panel also have a removable rigid material for cleaning of the fabric portion.

  • Patent number: 4934004
Abstract: A carrier for use in vehicles safely transports premature or underweight infants in a bed during normal vehicle motion by directly supporting the infant recumbent along its head, neck and back. An energy absorbtion structure between the bed and the front of a shell that contains the bed permanently deforms and dissipates kinetic energy of the infant from inertial loading by the infant during the rapid deceleration resulting from a collision or panic stop. The bed and shell likewise deform. During the deceleration the bed rotates the infant into the vertical, continuing the direct support along the head, neck and back. A seat belt catch anchors the carrier to the vehicle through a standard seat belt and provides a barrier that keeps the infant in the carrier when experiencing vertical forces. Side walls of the bed absorb and dissipate impact energy from the sides of the carrier.

  • Patent number: 4827542
Abstract: An inflatable container for use as a crib, playpen, bassinet and safety car bed is provided by a rectangular base and attached side walls, all of which can be inflated by an air pump permanently attached along the top of one side wall. Between adjacent edges of each side wall and the next side wall a zipper is provided which extends from the base to the top edge of the side wall so that when fully closed the side walls define a rectangular structure with open top. Across a center line of each side wall is a fold section which allows a top portion of the wall to fold back downwardly and attach to the base. Ballast pockets can be provided in the base. The device can be used in a vehicle with a strap system including an automatic retraction device whereby the straps on retraction draw down the upper sections of two walls to close the open top and contain the child.

  • Patent number: 4667356
Abstract: An adjustable infant bed and seat includes a pillow formed of a fabric enclosure filled with expanded plastic beads. A removable outer cover is secured about the pillow, with a generally rectangular base board disposed therebetween to stabilize the shape and configuration of the assembly. A three-point safety harness is joined to the upper surface of the outer cover to secure an infant to the outer cover. The pillow filling may be variously configured as a bed which receives the infant in the prone position, or it may be rearranged as a seat to support the infant in a sitting position. In any disposition the weight of the infant compresses the beads and sustains the arranged configuration to maintain support of the infant. The pillow may be placed in a tote bag to facilitate pedestrian transport of the infant while secured to and supported by the pillow assembly.
