Carbonyl Containing Patents (Class 508/198)
  • Patent number: 5646098
Abstract: The invention relates to novel compositions comprising ene and free radical adducts of unsaturated and saturated hydrocarbons, and acyclic and cyclic vicinal polycarbonyl compounds such as diethyl ketomalonate and indantrione. The adducts are reacted with nucleophiles such as amines, electrophiles such as anhydrides and esters, and metal ions. Post-products are obtained via reaction of said products with capping reagents such as boric acid. Compositions containing said adducts, products and post-products include oleaginous substances such as fuels and lube oils.

  • Patent number: 5639716
Abstract: Oil-soluble dispersant additives are disclosed. The additives comprise the reaction product of a functionalized 1-butene copolymer and at least one nucleophilic reactant selected from amines, amino alcohols, alcohols, and reactive metal compounds. The functionalized copolymer has within its structure at least one acyl functional group selected from the group consisting of C.sub.4 to C.sub.10 dicarboxylic acids and derivatives thereof and C.sub.3 to C.sub.10 monocarboxylic acids and derivatives thereof. The 1-butene copolymer is derived from 1-butene and at least one other .alpha.-olefin of formula CH.sub.2 .dbd.CHR', wherein R' is methyl or a C.sub.3 to C.sub.12 linear or branched alkyl group. The copolymer has a number average molecular weight of at least about 700, a molecular weight distribution of less than 5, and ethenylidene groups terminating at least about 30% of all polymer chains.

  • Patent number: 5571445
Abstract: A "cold-clash" gear problem associated with vehicular manual transmissions exposed to the cold is overcome by use of a special all-synthetic gear oil composition. The composition is composed of base oil and specified additive components. The base oil is a blend of dialkyl ester of an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid having a maximum pour point of about -55.degree. C. and a maximum kinematic viscosity at 100.degree. C. of about 4 cSt, and three hydrogenated poly-.alpha.-olefin oligomers having kinematic viscosities at 100.degree. C. of about 40, about 4-8 cSt and about 2 cSt in specified proportions. The additive components comprise an organic sulfur-containing antiwear and/or extreme pressure agent, an organic phosphorus-containing antiwear and/or extreme pressure agent, a copper corrosion inhibitor, a rust inhibitor, a foam inhibitor, and an ashless dispersant. The gear oil has a boron content of about 0.0025 to about 0.07 wt %.
