  • Patent number: 5586753
Abstract: A vegetation barrier for the prevention of vegetation growth directly beneath and immediately around a fence. The barrier employs one or more barrier segments receivable beneath the lower edge of a fence. Each segment includes a first aperture disposed near one of its two longitudinal ends, and a second aperture disposed near the opposite longitudinal end of the segment. The apertures have different widths in the transverse direction, such that the segments are adapted to be used with fences constructed with posts having either of two sizes, such as the standardized sizes of about 15/8 inches and about 21/2 inches used in residential and commercial fence constructions. Multiple barrier segments can be installed on fences with differing spacing between posts by adjusting the amount of overlap between members.

Landscaping structures including modules, fences, walls and the like are custom erected at the job site from groups of component lanscaping logs of assorted lengths that are machined to interlock with cooperating male and female ends. The preferred landscaping log comprises a central body that is generally in the form of a parallelpiped having a square cross section. Each log comprises spaced apart male and female ends. The female end comprises a pair of apertured, spaced-apart flanges with a receptive notch defined therebetween. The male end comprises an apertured, outwardly projecting, flange adapted to be inserted within the receptive notch.

  • Patent number: 5157867
Abstract: An elongated landscape edging strip formed of flexible material comprises an upstanding retainer portion intermediate and integral with a thin gauge, readily deformable mowing strip and a thin gauge, readily deformable anchoring strip. The mowing strip and anchoring strip are both secured in conformity to the ground contour along the edge of a mowed area to separate the mowed area from an unmowed area. In a preferred embodiment, the retainer portion has a channel-shaped cross section.

  • Patent number: 5134817
Abstract: A landscape border brick system includes a plurality of bricks and a plurality of connectors for interconnecting bricks which are placed end to end. Each brick has connector recesses formed in its opposite ends for receiving the connectors. The connector recesses are formed in the bottom surface of the brick which rests on the ground, so a brick can be lifted off its connectors and replaced without disturbing adjacent bricks. The system includes two basic kinds of bricks, main bricks and secondary bricks. The main or angled bricks have a pair of leg portions which intersect at an angle, preferably 30 degrees, to form a generally V-shaped configuration when viewed from above. The secondary bricks are straight and may be interposed between the main bricks in any desired arrangement. Both the main bricks and the secondary bricks may be provided in varying lengths.

  • Patent number: 5134819
Abstract: A swimming pool coping that can be used for covering a top edge of curved swimming pool walls includes an integrally formed body having a hollow nose-shaped portion and a mounting seat portion. The hollow nose-shaped portion has a rounded profile with top and bottom portions that are connected by a web. A notch-shaped relief joint interrupts the bottom portion of the rounded profile in a position that contracts in response to bending of the coping body in either of two directions to match concave and convex curvatures of swimming pool walls. The rounded profile projects from the web through a distance that is decreased by the contraction of the relief joint so that the coping exhibits a similar appearance while matching either concave or convex curvatures of the pool walls.

  • Patent number: 5133163
Abstract: A construction block suitable for the preparation of an assemblage such as lawn edging, patio perimeters (patio containment system) and the like, wherein a plurality of the blocks are rigidly assembled into the desired configuration without the use of mortar. Each construction block is formed as a pre-cast module, preferably of concrete, within which there is a conduit said conduit being formed from an optional elongated imperforate pipe length with at least one double ended female pipe coupling, and if said pipe is present, double ended female couplings are present at the opposite ends thereof. The conduit may extend in one or more directions through the block and terminates flush with the outer walls thereof.Connection of adjacent blocks one to another to form an assemblage is carried out by connector means comprising the interposition and adhesion of male nipples within adjacent female couplings. A concrete caulk sealant may be applied between any two spaced blocks to retard growth of grass and weeds.

  • Patent number: 5119587
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming irregular, and regular, edgings for landscaping, and the like, exemplified by the use of specially constructed blocks, or bricks, having ends with curvatures such that irregular designs may be utilized and irregular or unusual terraine may be accommodated without the necessity of having gaps or spaces between various elements in creating an irregular design; One portion of each block will be curved in a convex manner. Another portion will be curved in a concave manner. The curved ends may be in one plane, or in more than one plane with overlapping and underlapping ends being curved appropriately. Appropriate scoring or marking may be provided to break blocks intermediate therein to form a square end to a particular edging design if desired; alternatively pegs are provided to match holes in portions of the blocks; or, holes are provided all the way through certain of the matching block elements in order to drive stakes through and into the ground if desired.
