  • Patent number: 6625934
Abstract: An environmental detection system is particularly suited for elevator hoistways and other locations where access is difficult or restricted. The inventive system comprises a fire rated access cage which is disposed within the hoistway in a desired location, and is securely attached to an associated access panel, which is fire protection rated and positioned to extend through a wall defining the hoistway. An environmental sensing device, such as a smoke detector or heat sensor, is secured within the cage so that it is disposed within the hoistway, and can freely detect any smoke or excessive heat present in the hoistway because of a large number of apertures in the walls of the cage. The resultant system, thus, is constructed so that authorized personnel can access the environmental sensing unit conveniently through the access panel door from an adjacent hallway or room to test or maintain it, without shutting down the associated elevator or compromising the effectiveness of the unit.

Abstract: A portable fall-arrest system is designed for convenient attachment and/or removal relative to a concrete beam. The system includes stanchions which are preferably secured to respective anchorages embedded within a reinforced concrete beam. The anchorages may alternatively be used to support other types of personnel safety devices. The preferred embodiment anchorage may be described as a flared coil loop insert having a threaded neck. The loop is disposed inside the concrete beam and the neck extends to the outer surface of the concrete beam. The neck is sized and configured to receive and retain a threaded shaft associated with a safety device. The anchorage provides a convenient and reliable anchor point in a concrete beam without drilling into the beam and/or potentially weakening its structural integrity.

  • Patent number: 6293056
Abstract: A plurality of utility distribution system elements such as cables, wires, pipes or ducts are supported in the space existing between a suspended ceiling and the upper adjacent floor by a plurality of support brackets. The support brackets include elements having a shape corresponding generally to an inverted L which are secured to the undersurface of the upper adjacent floor and thereby provide downwardly extending vertical elements. A plurality of slots are formed in the support brackets and a plurality of elongated straps are securable to the support brackets using the slots and bending tabs formed in the straps. The straps cooperate with the support bracket to secure various utility distribution system elements such as pipes, cables, wire bundles or ducts. In an alternate embodiment, the support brackets are arranged in pairs and are joined by horizontally extending braces therebetween to form ladder-like support structures which receive and support various utility distribution elements.

Abstract: A modular medical gas services unit with multiple medical gas outlets supported at the same level on the column. The unit preferably comprises a hollow column with an internal space for housing the gas conduits and power lines. The medical gas supply outlets are mounted so that their longitudinal axes extend radially from the vertical axis of the frame, and the longitudinal axes of adjacent outlets intersect to form an acute angle. In this way, the horizontal dimensions of the column can be minimized while the number of medical gas outlets at the desired height is maximized. In one embodiment, the column is pentagonal in cross-section providing five planar support surfaces for five medical gas outlets. In another embodiment, a square column is equipped with angled outlet panels, each supporting two medical gas outlets. Thus, though the frame is four-sided, as many as eight medical gas outlets can be mounted at the same height on the frame.
