  • Patent number: 11760052
Abstract: A housewrap is a multi-layer drainage wrap. A nonwoven base web has a three-dimensional pattern embossed therein on one surface of the web. This embossed web is then extrusion coated with a polymer coating. The coating is extrusion-coated on to embossed side of the nonwoven base web. The nonwoven base web has the three-dimensionally embossed and coated side as its outward facing surface. The coated base web is then activated by stretching to provide moisture vapor permeance at a rate that allows a building to breathe. The result is a housewrap that is textured on both the inside and outside faces of the housewrap. The texture and weather resistive coating on exterior side facilitates both drainage of water off of the outside face of the housewrap and the circulation of air and moisture around and through the inside face of the housewrap and promotes a tighter seal and better adhesion to flashing tapes reducing further the points of entry for water into the structure.

Abstract: Silica aerogels with improved properties are disclosed together with methods for synthesizing such aerogels. The improved properties include lower thermal conductivity (better insulating capacity), lower acoustic velocity, lower dielectric constant and improved ductility. Greater tunability of the refractive index can also be achieved. The silica aerogels are prepared by a sol-gel processing method that provides better control of the formation of aerogel structures. Generally speaking, the improvements arise from control of the synthesis to create a morphology of primary clusters and diverse-sized secondary clusters of dense silica aerogels separated by less densely packed regions. By providing a broader range of secondary clusters and/or pore sizes and loose connectivity between clusters, reductions can be achieved in thermal conductivity and flexural modulus.

Abstract: Disclosed is a reinforcement structure of a rectangular flat metal plate, which is provided with: a rectangular flat metal plate that is predominantly subjected to in-plane shear, and supports a compressive load as necessary; strip-like rectangular section members that are spliced in parallel with both side edges of the flat plate in the longitudinal direction so as to reinforce the flat plate; and a plurality of square tube-like members that are parallelly arranged for each constant interval in the shorter side direction of the flat plate, and are spliced on one side surface of the flat plate, or are spliced so as to overlap one another across the flat plate between both surfaces of the front and back of the flat plate, wherein the torsional rigidity and torsional strength of the rectangular flat metal plate are increased to ensure a yield shear load, and shear yield strength can be stably maintained even in the transition of shear deformation after the yield.

Abstract: Thermally responsive walls can be formed of wall panels made from different materials and having staggered conduits with respect to each other when coupled together (e.g., pancaked or layered) to form a wall at one temperature. The staggered conduits in the different wall panels are configured such that they become aligned at a second temperature due to differences in expansion coefficients. The wall panels can be designed using a computing system that processes an algorithm that accounts for various parameters, such as the different thermal expansion coefficients.
