  • Patent number: 5252168
Abstract: An aqueous process was developed to prepare a consolidated composite laminate from an aqueous slurry. An aqueous poly(amic acid) surfactant solution was prepared by dissolving a poly(amic acid) powder in an aqueous ammonia solution. A polymeric powder was added to this solution to form a slurry. The slurry was deposited on carbon fiber to form a prepreg which was dried and stacked to form a composite laminate. The composite laminate was consolidated using pressure and was heated to form the polymeric matrix. The resulting composite laminate exhibited high fracture toughness and excellent consolidation.

  • Patent number: 4722964
Abstract: This invention describes an improved cationic wet strength resin prepared from: an epichlorohydrin-ammonia intermediate reaction product; polyalkyleneamine-amide, and epichlorohydrin. This resin is not only efficient in imparting wet strength to paper but also provides that the treated paper is easier to repulp than paper treated with conventional epoxidized polyalkyleneamine-amide.

  • Patent number: 4714736
Abstract: Polyamide solutions for imparting wet strength to paper are stabilized by acidifying uncrosslinked polyamide solutions prior to storage or prior to crosslinking with epichlorohydrin to form polyamide resins. The acidification of the uncrosslinked solutions allows for storage without refrigeration. The acidification prior to crosslinking results in wet strength resins that are stable at solids concentrations of at least 30% and that exhibit high strength when the resins are post cooked to a viscosity of between about 325 and 425 cps.

  • Patent number: 4683262
Abstract: Polyamide resins useful as binders in flexographic/gravure inks are provided which are essentially free of polyeric fat acids. These polyamide resins exhibit improved water solubility, yet still retain the other many desirable properties of polyamide resins based on polymeric fat acids. The resins are acid terminated having acid values greater than 30 and are prepared from medium chain (12-26 carbons) dicarboxylic acids such as the C.sub.21 acid, 2-n-hexyl-5-(7-carboxyl-n-heptyl)-cyclohex-3-ene carboxylic acid, and aliphatic diamines having from 2-12 carbon atoms.
