Abstract: An asphalt composition comprises a bituminous material blended with a reaction product of ethylene diamine and a blend of a dibasic acid and one or more fatty acid residues.
Abstract: This invention provides cationic emulsions of bituminous binders of the bitumen/polymer type, formed by a dispersion of an organic phase of the binder in an aqueous phase containing a cationic nitrogenous emulsifier and a mineral or organic acid, the acid being in appropriate quantity so that the pH of the aqueous phase is comprised between 3 and 9. The aqueous phase also contains an agent consisting of at least one water-soluble sequestering salt of phosphonic acid, particularly a salt of alkaline metal or of amine of hydroxyalkyl-1,1-diphosphonic acid, and optionally a water-soluble thickening agent. To obtain the emulsions, which are usable for road applications, the emulsifying agent, the sequestering agent and optionally the thickening agent may be used in the form of a premixture containing the agents and called cationic emulsifying system.
Abstract: The present invention provides an aqueous emulsion joint and crack filler capable of passing the ASTM Specification 1190 for joint and crack fillers. The emulsion solids are the reaction product of asphalt, an extender oil, a mixture of elastomers, an acrylamide and a vinyl monomer. The preferred elastomer mixture includes a liquid rubber and at least one block copolymer of styrene and a conjugated diene, such as triblock and diblock copolymers of styrene and butadiene. The preferred emulsion medium is water containing a surfactant and an acrylamide polymer. The emulsion is poured at ambient temperature into a joint or crack, and cures rapidly to ensure minimal traffic interruption.
Abstract: The process according to the invention is characterized by the following stages:(A) an emulsion of asphalt composition is made starting from (a) an asphalt composition prepared by adding, at a temperature of 100.degree. to 150.degree. C., 20 to 95 parts of asphalt to 5 to 80 parts by weight of a polyurethane extender and from (b) an aqueous phase obtained by solution in water of 1 to 20% by weight of an emulsifier chosen from a polyamine hydrochloride, an amido-amine hydrochloride and a quaternary ammonium salt, then the asphalt composition (a), taken to a temperature of 120.degree. to 150.degree. C., is emulsified with the aqueous phase (b), taken to a temperature of 40.degree. to 80.degree. C.; p0 (B) a polyisocyanate aqueous emulsion is made by mixing, under strong agitation, 20 to 50 parts by weight of an organic polyisocyanate made up to 100 parts with water; and(C) the emulsions (A) and (B) are mixed. They then form, by reticulation at ambient temperature, a polyurethane in the mixture.
Abstract: Polyolefin reinforced asphalt paving and sealing composition containing straight chain unsaturated fatty acid having up to 30 weight percent rosin as a plasticizer, plus an adhesion control component comprising high density polyolefin fines; and a corresponding method for controlling high temperature tracking and washing characteristics without aggravating mixing or plugging problems, by replacing, at least in part, regular inorganic aggregate such as sand with high density polyolefin fines.
Abstract: Cationic emulsions of bituminous binders of the type consisting of an organic phase formed of a bituminous binder dispersed in an aqueous phase containing a cationic emulsifying agent and an acid. The bituminous binder is a bitumen-polymer type binder and the acid present in the aqueous phase is a possibly hydroxylated mono or polycarboxylic acid, used in sufficient quantity that the pH of the said aqueous phase is comprised between 1 and 7.The bituminous binders of the bitumen-polymer type having passed through the said emulsions present an excellent aging behavior.

Abstract: Quaternized ammonium synthetic polymers having a solution viscosity, as measured on a 1% solution in deionized water at 25.degree. C. using a suspended level viscometer of from 1 to 500 cs are used as dispersing agents in aqueous slurries of water and solid particulate carbonaceous material.
Abstract: Process for producing a cationic polychloroprene latex by homo- or copolymerizing chloroprene in an aqueous emulsion in the presence of ammonium salts of inorganic or organic acids as emulsifiers wherein the polymerization is carried out in presence of an alkaline earth and/or alkali salt of an organic carboxylic acid or in presence of a mixture of Na.sub.2 HPO.sub.4 and KH.sub.2 PO.sub.4. The latex thus obtained may be mixed with a bitumen emulsion and can be used for the protection of building or in road construction.
