These peroxides were found to be pre-eminently suited to the curing of silicone rubbers and polyester resins. Their use does not lead to blooming, bad smell and/or discoloration of the cured product, while allowing low residual monomer levels to be obtained at processing temperatures below the temperature used in conventional processes wherein peroxyesters are used.

Abstract: Fine silica particles surface-treated with a silane and having primary particles having a particle diameter of from 0.01 to 5 &mgr;m, which fine silica particles fulfill the following conditions (i) and (ii), a process for their production and an organic resin composition containing such particles as a component are provided. (i) When an organic compound which is liquid at room temperature and has a dielectric constant of from 1 to 40 F/m and fine silica particles are mixed in a weight ratio of 5:1 and shaked, the fine silica particles disperse uniformly in the organic compound, and (ii) the quantity of primary particles remaining as primary particles when methanol is evaporated under heating by means of an evaporator from a dispersion prepared by dispersing the fine silica particles in methanol and thereafter the particles are held at a temperature of 100° C. for 2 hours, is in a percentage of at least 20% based on the quantity of primary particles originally present.

Abstract: Curable fluoroelastomer compositions having improved compression set after curing are provided, as well as compositions that are of relatively high purity. These compositions include a hydrogen-containing fluoroelastomer having interpolymerized units derived from a cure-site monomer, a curative (optionally with a co-agent), and an organo-onium. When the fluoroelastomer contains units derived from vinylidene fluoride, the composition is essentially free from an inorganic acid acceptor. Methods of improving the compression of cured fluoroelastomer and cured fluoroelastomers having improved compression set are also provided.

  • Patent number: 6573303
Abstract: Materials ranging from impact-modified thermoplastics to thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) can be obtained from blends of phase compatibility-treated recycled thermoset rubber with thermoplastic polymers by varying the ratio of components in the blend, or by changing the components themselves. The rubber component may include carbon black, or other fillers and additives, and it may be selected from among a variety of thermoset rubbers, both natural and synthetic. The thermoset rubber component can be obtained from a rubber material recycled according to a variety of known techniques. The thermoplastic component can be virtually any suitable polymer, the properties of which can be advantageously modified by combination with a rubber. Polyolefins are among the more preferred thermoplastic components.
