Abstract: This invention involves a composition, a method of making, and an application of high plasticization-resistant chemically cross-linked polymeric membranes such as cross-linked cellulose acetate (CA) membrane. These cross-linked polymeric membranes with covalently interpolymer-chain-connected rigid networks showed no decrease in CO2/CH4 ideal selectivity under 690 kPa (100 psig) pure CO2 pressure and also no CO2 plasticization up to 3447 kPa (500 psig) pure CO2 pressure. By using the method of chemical cross-linking as described in this invention, the separation characteristics of the polymeric membranes can be decisively improved. These new cross-linked polymeric membranes can be used not only for gas separations such as CO2/CH4 and CO2/N2 separations, O2/N2 separation, olefin/paraffin separations (e.g. propylene/propane separation), iso/normal paraffins separations, but also for liquid separations such as pervaporation and desalination.

  • Publication number: 20090054588
Abstract: A fluoromodified admixture containing isocyanate and urethane and/or urea groups is described. Surprisingly, it has been found that the fluoromodified admixture according to the invention is outstandingly suitable even at a very low dosage for the permanent hydrophobic and/or oleophobic and/or dirt-repellent in-bulk finishing of products based on inorganic or hydraulic or mineral binders, without the fundamental property profile (e.g. compressive and flexural tensile strengths) of these products being substantially influenced. Moreover, it was not to be foreseen that in the case of the products treated with the fluoromodified admixtures according to the invention (e.g. hardened building material compositions) a markedly lower water absorption (avoidance of frost damage and corrosion) and a suppression of bleeding on the surfaces (avoidance of visual impairment) are to be observed. Furthermore, it could not be expected that in spite of the high fluorine modification an adequate self-dispersibility is afforded.

  • Publication number: 20090022888
Abstract: The invention is based on the recognition that known antimicrobial compounds, such as nisin or other lantibiotics, can be made to form a long lasting antimicrobial surface coating by linking the peptide with a block polymer, such as PLURONIC® F108 or an end group activated polymer (EGAP) in a manner to form a flexible tether and/or entrap the peptide. The entrapped peptide provides antimicrobial action by early release from entrapment while the tethered peptide provides longer lasting antimicrobial protection. Antimicrobial gels and foams may be prepared using the antimicrobial peptide containing block copolymers.
