Publication number: 20100314112Abstract: A two step process for treating an oil or gas well. The first step uses a cross linking agent, such as borax, as a preliminary wash for the well following drilling. The cross linking agent cleans the well of excess mud and pre-coats the tubing and the formation surfaces with the cross linking agent. The second step introduces a cement-polymer mixture into the well. A polymer, such as for example polyvinyl alcohol, that undergoes cross linking when exposed to the cross linking agent is employed. When the polymer comes into contact with the cross linking agent in the well, cross linking of the polymer occurs. This cross linking helps to prevent fluid loss into the formation. Also, because the cross linking agent wash previously cleaned the surfaces of the tubing and the formation, better bonding between the cement and the surfaces of the tubing and the formation occurs.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 11, 2010Publication date: December 16, 2010Inventor: Lloyd Byron Spangle

The rubber element is a peroxide-cured composition based on 100 parts of ethylene-alpha-olefin elastomer, and 5 to 100 parts of polyvinyl butyral polymer which may have a molecular weight from about 40,000 to about 250,000. The composition may also include a compatibilizer or homogenizer, such as chlorinated polyethylene. The polyvinyl butyral increases the damping of the composition, and the compatibilizer improves the temperature stability of the damping.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 2007Date of Patent: November 16, 2010Assignee: The Gates CorporationInventors: Yuding Feng, Yahya Hodjat, Lin Zhu

Publication number: 20100280177Abstract: An organized mobile multicomponent conjugate (OMMC) and method of using to enhance binding of weakly binding compounds to a target. A lamellar structure containing at least two binding compounds is assembled under conditions in which the binding compounds self-regulate in or on the lamellar structure, forming a cooperative ensemble that is capable of binding with enhanced affinity to a complementary affinity site on a target. Each binding compound is bound to the lamellar surface, and may be connected by a linker. The OMMC may contain an effector molecule, such as a diagnostic or therapeutic agent, for administration to a patent who is then diagnosed or treated using the effector molecule.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 12, 2010Publication date: November 4, 2010Applicant: MALLINCKRODT INC.Inventors: Gary L. Patent number: 7803872Abstract: A water-soluble, halogen-resistant film-forming composition useful for packaging water treatment products is disclosed. The film can include an acid-stable, water-soluble polyvinyl alcohol polymer, an oxidizable organic material, a chelating agent, a free radical scavenger, and secondary additives such as plasticizers, lubricants, and surfactants. The resulting film has favorable solubility properties after having been exposed to halogenated (e.g., chlorinated and brominated) compositions such as water treatment and agricultural products for prolonged periods of time.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2007Date of Patent: September 28, 2010Assignee: Monosol, LLCInventors: Andrew P. Patent number: 7776962Abstract: Low shear-thinning polyvinyl acetals having a solution viscosity in 30% strength by weight solution in methyl ethyl ketone which changes by not more than 10% in a shear rate range from 1 to 100 s?1. The preparation of the low shear-thinning polyvinyl acetals involves acetalation of partly hydrolyzed or completely hydrolyzed vinyl ester polymers comprising ?50 mol % of vinyl alcohol units with one or more aldehydes, optionally in the form of the hydrates, hemiacetals or full acetals, wherein from 0 to 60% by weight of the aldehyde, based on the total amount of the aldehyde, is initially introduced over the course of the first one to ten minutes of the acetalation and is prereacted over the course of from 1 to 30 minutes, and the remaining proportion is then metered in continuously over the course of at least 20 minutes.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 2005Date of Patent: August 17, 2010Assignee: Kuraray Europe GmbHInventor: Kurt Stark
