Abstract: Hydrazide functionalized 2-hydroxybenzophenone ultraviolet light and heat stabilizers and derivatives are disclosed having the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, X, Y, Z, all substituents thereof, and n are set forth in the Summary of the Invention. Y--N(R.sup.6)--Z is the hydrazide or derivative group and --X--R.sup.5 -- links the hydrazide group to an aromatic nucleus of the optionally substituted benzophenone group. Derivatives are, for example, acyl hydrazides, diacyl hydrazides (including imides), hydrazones and alkyl hydrazides. The compounds are useful as ultraviolet light absorbers and heat stabilizers for plastics.
Abstract: The present invention relates to compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.c is carboxy, esterified carboxy or amidated carboxy;R.sub.2 is hydrogen or lower alkyl or joins with R.sub.a and R.sub.b and the atoms therebetween to form a fused ring ##STR2## and either R.sub.a is methyl and R.sub.b is ##STR3## or R.sub.2 and R.sub.b and the atoms therebetween form a group wherein R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are either both hydrogen, or together are propylene, butylene, or with the two atoms to which they are attached form a benzene ring. Methods of manufacture and use thereof in the production of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors are disclosed.
Abstract: A composition suitable for topical application to mammalian skin or hair for inducing, maintaining or increasing hair growth comprises:(i) a chemical inhibitor of glycosidase activity chosen from lactams having the structure: ##STR1## where A.sup.1 and A.sup.6 are --H, --CH.sub.3, ##STR2## --CH.sub.2 OT or ##STR3## A.sup.1 and A.sup.6 being the same or different, and at least one of which being the group: ##STR4## in a lactam ring; and where Q is --OT', --NHT' or a lactam linkage to A.sup.1 or A.sup.6 ;the Q groups being the same or different, and at least one of which is involved in a lactam linkage;and where T is the same or different and is chosen from --H, --C.sub.p H.sub.2p+1 or a metal ion,T' is --H or --COC.sub.p H.sub.2p+1, andp is an integer of from 1 to 22;provided that:where any of the Q groups is --OT' or --NHT',then that group or groups can be of either stereochemical configuration with respect to the plane of the ring; and(ii) a cosmetically acceptable vehicle for the chemical inhibitor.
Abstract: Novel .delta.-caprolactam derivatives of formula I have anti-tumor, antibiotic and anthelmintic activity: ##STR1## wherein: R is H, lower alkyl, or lower acyl;R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 are each independently H or lower acyl;R.sub.4 is H or acyl of 1 to 22 carbon atoms;R.sub.5 is H or lower acyl;R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 are each H or OH, or R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 together form an epoxide or a double bond;and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.

Abstract: Various heterocyclic compounds have been discovered that impart improved fuel economy and friction modification to lubricant and fuel compositions. These hetrocyclic compounds of the invention preferably contain nitrogen and may be further reacted with hydrocarbyl carboxylic acid acylating reactants or hydrocarbyl phenolic reactants to give higher molecular materials. These higher molecular weight materials have higher oil-solubility and impart dispersancy properties to lubricant and fuel compositions.
Abstract: The invention is a process for the preparation of a N- or S-1,2-ethylenically unsaturated organic compound which comprises(a) contacting a N- or S-silylated organic compound with an aldehyde, wherein the aldehyde has a hydrogen atom bonded to the carbon adjacent to the carbonyl moiety, at elevated temperatures under conditions such that a N- or S-1-siloxyalkyl-substituted organic compound is prepared; and(b) pyrolyzing the N- or S-1-siloxyalkyl-substituted organic compound under conditions such that the siloxy moiety is elminated to prepare a N- or S-1,2-ethylenically unsaturated compound.
Abstract: Novel thioketene derivatives of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, a lower alkenyl group, a phenyl group or a group of the formula: --B--Y;Y is a nitrogen-containing monocyclic heterocyclic group or a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group;B is a straight or branched lower alkylene group;R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are both a lower alkyl group or are combined together to form a group of the formula: --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 -- or --CH.dbd.CH--;R.sup.4 is hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group or a (lower alkoxy)carbonyl group;A is a group of the formula: --(CH.sub.2).sub.n -- or --CH(COOR.sup.5)--;n is an integer of 0, 1 or 2 andR.sup.5 is a lower alkyl group, are disclosed. The compound (I) is useful as an agent for treating and protecting various liver diseases.
Abstract: The invention concerns a simple process for preparing an ester acyllactam and/or esteramide acyllactam by the catalytic condensation of imide and alcohol, characterized in that a polyol and an acyllactam compound are reacted in the liquid state in the presencce of a halide, carboxylate or acetylacetonate from beryllium, magnesium, calcium, strontium, barium, boron, aluminium, zinc or cadmium. The invention is important for the preparation of compounds which may be used in the preparation of nylon block copolymers, more in particular in RIM-nylon systems (Reaction Injection Moulding), since when the compounds obtained according to the present invention are used in a RIM system, a very fast lactam polymerization takes place, and it therefore also relates to the preparation of nylon block copolymers.
