Abstract: There are disclosed pharmaceutical compounds of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 is an aliphatic or aromatic function, and R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are each hydrogen, C.sub.1-4 alkyl or a protecting group; and salts thereof.
Abstract: A new widely-applicable method has been found for synthesis of 9,10-anthraquinones and similar chemical compounds of wide use in industry and pharmacology, by reacting suitable aromatic substrates with activated dicarboxylic acids (more particularly dichlorides) in the presence of metal halides. The special characteristics of the reaction are the good yields, high selectivity, the possibility of operating in a single reactor and the use of starting compounds which are cheap and easily available on the market.

Abstract: A process for producing a polymaleimide which comprises reacting an aromatic dialdehyde with 2 to 60 moles, per mole of the aromatic dialdehyde, of aromatic amine represented by the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein X is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or an alkyl or alkoxy group each having 1 to 4 carbon atoms to obtain a polyamine, reacting the polyamine with maleic anhydride to obtain a polyamide acid, and dehydration-cyclizing the polyamide acid to obtain a polymaleimide.
Abstract: Compounds of the present invention are of the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein X is oxygen or two hydrogens, R.sup.1 is a variety of substituents or hydrogen and R.sup.2 is hydrogen, alkoxy, alkyl, CF.sub.3, halogen, NO.sub.2, OH or dialkylamino. The compounds are useful as blood pressure lowering agents and may be used in the treatment of hypertension. Also, part of the invention are pharmaceutical compositions and uses and intermediates for compounds of formula (I).

Abstract: Novel, unsaturated diacteylene-terminated polyimides and processes for their preparation are disclosed herein. These new polyimides are derivatives of anhydride-terminated aromatic polyimides from which they can be prepared by amidation to provide new unsaturated amide groups having a terminal group containing the structure --C.tbd.C--C.tbd.C--, hereinafter sometimes referred to as "conjugated diynes". These new compositions are more tractable than the original anhydride-terminated polyimides and can be converted at appropriate lower temperatures to crosslinked, insoluble, infusible polymers without by-product formation, thereby extending greatly the applications for which the aromatic polyimides can be employed. Moreover, these new polyimides can undergo the Diels-Alder type of addition with a large number of dienophiles. Certain monomeric materials are also described.
