Patent number: 9993746Abstract: Embodiments of the invention are directed to a sulfur trap comprising an inlet, a first chamber, a divider, a second chamber, an outlet, and a float assembly. The float assembly may have many different configurations, but generally comprises a float and plug, is configured to float within liquid sulfur, and is operatively coupled to a seal seat in the divider for sealing and unsealing the first chamber from the second chamber. Generally, only liquid sulfur is allowed to pass from the first chamber into the second chamber. However, the sulfur trap may be configured to allow for pressure relief, such that during an overpressure event the plug and seal seat disengage and allow the liquid-gas mixture to flow into the second chamber to prevent damage within the system. In some embodiments a filter and/or the flow of liquid sulfur is directed to collect debris from the liquid sulfur.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 2016Date of Patent: June 12, 2018Assignee: CONTROLS SOUTHEAST, INC.Inventors: Brandon W. Patent number: 5290331Abstract: A localized clean air system for operating theaters and a method of supplying clean air to a localized region in such situations. A fan is connected to a delivery head, which has an outlet for directing inlet clean air to the localized region in a particular pattern. Preferably, the streamlined body is symmetrical about its axis and is aligned with the clean air flow, for instance by being centrally positioned in the air outlet. The streamlined body preferably comprises a rounded head and a tapered tail. Patent number: 5049170Abstract: This invention is a filter assembly for preparing gases for an exhaust gas analyzer. A single housing includes at least three filter cavities, an inlet passage and two outlet passages. A coarse filter for filtering particlate matter and for condensate condensation is disposed in the first filter cavity. Condensate from the first cavity drains into the second filter cavity which has disposed therein a fine filter for filtering condensate. An outlet passage is connected to the second filter cavity for withdrawal of the condensate. A fine filter for filtering the exhaust gas is disposable in the third filter cavity which is coupled to the first filter cavity. A second outlet passage connects the third filter cavity to a pump for removal of the gas to be analyzed. The present invention thus provides a multiple filter assembly in a single housing with large fine filter area, minimal void volume, minimal interconnections, and convenient access to the individual filters.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1990Date of Patent: September 17, 1991Assignee: Andros IncorporatedInventor: George K. Patent number: 4941900Abstract: An air filtering device and related method for the removal of liquids and particulate matter from an air stream such as may be used in an aircraft environmental control system. The invention is comprised of an inertial separator and a combination coalescer and HEPA-rated filter preferably all located in the same housing. Air entering the housing flows into an inertial separator which removes most of the entrained liquid from the air. Substantially all of the remaining liquid is eliminated by the coalescing element with the coalescer functioning at least in part as an evaporator due to the low saturation level of the air flowing from the inertial separator. Biological and other particulate removal is accomplished by the subsequent passing of the air through the HEPA-rated filter medium.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 1988Date of Patent: July 17, 1990Assignee: Pall CorporationInventor: Harry Cordes

Patent number: 4265647Abstract: An air prefilter is disclosed for use with internal combustion engine air filters of the type having replaceable filter elements. The prefilter has a perforated sleeve connected between the usual intake openings and the filter element of the conventional air filter. This perforated sleeve is enveloped by an open-pore foam filter medium, which is of such porosity that engine intake air primarily passes therethrough rather than through the intake openings of the conventional air filter. The prefilter prevents foreign matter and water vapor from reaching and blocking the conventional filter element, which blocking causes the engine to receive insufficient air for efficient combustion. When the prefilter medium is saturated or blocked with impurities, the conventional air filter operates as usual, until the prefilter medium is cleaned or replaced. An adjustable deflector helps prevent foreign matter from blocking the prefilter medium.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1979Date of Patent: May 5, 1981Inventor: James P. Donachiue
