Patent number: 4843808Abstract: Bobbins spun in a ring spinning machine are conveyed sequentially to a measuring, counting and sorting device located between the ring spinning machine and an automatic winder that winds yarn from the bobbins. The measuring, counting and sorting device senses the presence of a bobbin, counts the bobbins being sensed, senses yarn and bobbin characteristics and compares the characteristics with predetermined standards. The device separates bobbins whose characteristics differ from the standard. Data regarding the operation of the spinning machine and operation of the winding machine are combined with the data obtained by the measuring, counting and sorting device and statistically evaluated for display or for controlling the production of the spinning machine and winding machine or for controlling conveyance of the packages from the winding machine.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 1988Date of Patent: July 4, 1989Assignee: W. Patent number: 4566262Abstract: The production of defective yarn in a friction false-twisting unit is deted and prevented. Variations of speed of rotation caused by defects in drive elements, such as worn or jammed bearings or a damaged drive belt, are detected by comparing a signal indicating the speed of rotation of at least one shaft with a reference signal. If the signal differs from the reference signal, an electrical fault signal is generated. This fault signal may control a thread cutting device which cuts the thread coming from the unit; or the fault signal may go to a central thread monitoring station where an operator may observe that a fault has occurred.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1983Date of Patent: January 28, 1986Assignee: FAG Kugelfischer Georg Schafer Kommanditgesellschaft auf AktienInventor: Wolfgang Schmucker

Patent number: 4452168Abstract: Apparatus for detecting a twisted pair (21) of conductors includes contact means (60) in the form of a generally semi-circular rocker. One diametrical end portion of the rocker rides on portions of the twisted pair of conductors as they are advanced over a sheave (34). The opposite diametrical end portion of the rocker is caused to be supported in alignment with a sensor (81). Should one of the conductors be missing, perhaps because of a break or equipment malfunction, the rocker is no longer caused to be maintained in a position such that the opposite end portion is aligned with the sensor. This causes the sensor to provide a signal indication of a break and because of its changed position to provide a visual indication to an operator.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1981Date of Patent: June 5, 1984Assignee: AT&T Technologies, Inc.Inventor: William C. Patent number: 4350046Abstract: A major problem in the manufacture of optical fibre cables is the strain to which the fibres are subjected, which strain could damage the fibres. To enable this strain to be monitored, and hence remedial action to be taken, one or more metallic elements are incorporated in the cable, each such element with its insulation being similar in thickness to an optical fibre with its sheath. The electrical resistance of the metallic elements varies very little with temperature, but does vary with strain, so by monitoring resistance, one monitors strain.Although mainly intended for use during manufacture, the method can be used whenever strain monitoring is needed.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1980Date of Patent: September 21, 1982Assignee: International Standard Electric CorporationInventors: Colin S. Patent number: 4330094Abstract: There is measured the length of a thread withdrawn overhead from a spinning cop or from a yarn bobbin. In order to circumvent the fault sources caused by slip and/or thread elongation there is generated a signal which periodically varies in accordance with the movement of the thread release or detachment point at the spinning cop or at the yarn bobbin, as the case may be, and there are counted the number of cycles of the fundamental frequency of this signal. The thread length is obtained by multiplication of the counted number of cycles by the constant thread length of two successive winding layers for spinning cops or yarn bobbins of the same origin and the same thread. The periodic signal can be derived from the thread withdrawal force or from the number of revolutions of the detachment point. The method is particularly suitable when rewinding a number of spinning cops on to a cross-wound bobbin.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1980Date of Patent: May 18, 1982Inventor: Stephan Mayer

Method and apparatus for detecting the faulty operation of spinning units open-end spinning machines
Patent number: 4246748Abstract: A method and apparatus of detecting faulty operations of spinning units of an open-end spinning machine by monitoring the faults appearing in the yarn being produced by the machine and generating a fault signal responsive thereto.
