Patent number: 4885907Abstract: The invention is called a "Chainbar" because it may be quickly and easily adjusted to have the characteristics of a flexible chain and/or that of a rigid bar; and may be easily folded into any size rectangular solid of equal volume. It consists of a series of interconnected links, which are flexible like a chain, but have means for restricting the movement between the links, to form a rigid bar. If the Chainbar is in the form of a flexible chain, and is passed through a tube which may be less than one link long, and has proper activating tabs, the movement between links will be sequentially restricted to form a rigid bar, adjustable in length in one link increments. The Chainbar has ubiquitous uses. It may anchored at one end and have a device attached to the other end, that may be extended out and away from the anchored end, such as a mirror, microphone, light source, etc. It may be used as folding handles or legs in folding, compact items such as tables, tripods, luggage carriers, etc.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1988Date of Patent: December 12, 1989Inventor: Sofia Pappanikolaou

Patent number: 4872306Abstract: A chain mesh for easy installation comprises a plurality of running lengths of chain. In one embodiment a plurality of vertical running lengths are positioned in parallel spaced relationship. A plurality of substantially horizontal running lengths are then positioned closely adjacent the plurality of vertical running lengths, and then the points of crossing are interconnected by connecting links therebetween. Each connecting link is normally open, and then closed after being installed between a respective vertical link and a close horizontal link. The connecting links permit a flexibility between the vertical and the horizontal chains, but substantially retain the cross parallel chains in such relationship. This crossed relationship may have the respective plurality of chains substantially perpendicular to each other, or they may be at an oblique angle to each other.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1988Date of Patent: October 10, 1989Assignee: Cooper Industries, Inc.Inventors: Gerald H. Patent number: 4860532Abstract: Two chain segments of a snow-chain are connected through elongated elements, where both ends of an element each exhibit an open slot in which a link of a chain segment is introduced. Thereafter, the slots are pressed shut until the chain links are at least formlocked, or even forcelocked therein. The method enables one to make the connection elements out of the same material as the one used for the chain segments, and to temper them together with the latter. Futhermore, the method can easily be performed by robots.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 1988Date of Patent: August 29, 1989Assignee: Milz Produkte AGInventor: Arthur Milz

Patent number: 4836125Abstract: An anchoring system for semisubmersible drill rigs is described which includes a wire rope-chain cable anchor line and in which system components co-operate to convey the junction of the wire rope and chain cable smoothly over a fairlead sheave. The connector joining the anchor line has a narrow end in which the rope is rigidly retained, a large end at which a chain end link is pivotally retained, and a radially symmetric, generally concave surface extending between the two connector ends. The outer surface of the connector is shaped to seat against the central hub of the fairlead sheave in a predetermined orientation in which a limited fixed bend angle is formed between the connector and the wire rope. The geometry of the connector naturally biases the connector to seat against the central hub of the fairlead sheave in the predeterminted orientation during hauling in of the anchor line.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1988Date of Patent: June 6, 1989Assignee: John T. Patent number: 4813225Abstract: The chain for pressing a plurality of annular segments against a pipeline includes a plurality of links which are interconnected by pivot pins. At least some of the pivot pins are provided with eccentrics which are disposed within the inner links so that upon turning of a pivot pin using a suitable tool, the tension on the chain can be adjusted. Nuts are rigidly secured at the ends of the pivot pins carrying the eccentrics to facilitate turning of these pivot pins.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1987Date of Patent: March 21, 1989Assignee: Sulzer Brothers LimitedInventor: Hans Fricker

Patent number: 4813170Abstract: A sweepline roller-stopper connects a sweepline to a bottom trawl while stopping lateral movement of rollers along the sweepline. In a preferred embodiment, the roller-stopper includes a tubular body member having a large washer welded to an end and a tang welded to a side. A bolt passing through the body member fixes the position of the roller-stopper on the sweepline chain. The roller (or a spacer) abuts the washer, which resists the lateral forces exerted by the roller. In another embodiment, a ring having a tang freely rotates about the body member, while the body member is fixed to the sweepline chain. The roller-stopper is rugged, resists wear, and prevents the trawl net from becoming tangled with the sweepline.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1988Date of Patent: March 21, 1989Inventor: Reidar Bendiksen

Patent number: 4809496Abstract: A mechanism for joining a chain end to a chain link utilizes a sliding link connected to a first link of the chain. The sliding link can be disengaged only by displacing it onto the straight portion of the first link and moving it forwardly to a second position. For connection, the sliding link is moved about the straight portion to a third position and is then moved upon engagement of a second chain link by an opposite displacement back to the locking position. Thus locking and unlocking is achieved only by two specific movements of the sliding link. Inadvertent unlocking is prevented by the shape and position of the sliding link.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1987Date of Patent: March 7, 1989Inventor: Ragnar T. Boasson
