  • Publication number: 20140230439
Abstract: A generator includes a main cavity and a shaft located in the main cavity. The shaft is configured to be connected to an auxiliary power unit (APU) and rotated by the APU. The generator is configured to generate power based on the rotation of the shaft. A fluid system is configured to receive a fluid from the APU, flow the fluid through the main cavity and return the fluid to the APU through a fluid scavenge channel. A filter is configured to filter the fluid from the main cavity to the fluid scavenge channel and a sensor is configured to detect a characteristic of the fluid at the filter.

  • Publication number: 20140013751
Abstract: An architecture for a hybrid power plant for driving a rotorcraft rotor (1). The rotorcraft is fitted with an electrical energy distribution network (17) for distributing electrical energy from a management network (20) that is interposed between the distribution network (17) and electrical energy sources (4, 9, 10). A management computer (21) takes account of information about the working of a combustion engine (3) for driving the rotor (1), about the working of the electrical energy sources (4, 9, 10) fitted to the rotorcraft and including an energy store (9), a reversible electric machine (4), and an electricity generator (10) engaged with the combustion engine, and about the electrical energy needs of the electricity distribution network (17).

  • Patent number: 6942452
Abstract: A bypass duct sealing grommet, for sealing between an opening in a gas turbine engine bypass duct wall and the external surface of a projection extending through the opening, where the grommet has an annular body with a central aperture having an interior periphery adapted to sealingly engage the external surface of the projection. A first flange and second flanges define an external slot about an exterior periphery of the body adapted to receive and seal the bypass duct wall between the flanges.

  • Publication number: 20040003594
Abstract: A combustion turbine power generating system includes an AC power generator, a combustion turbine that drives the AC power generator, a first converter that can make conversion between AC current and DC current and having an AC side connected to the AC power generator, a second converter that can make conversion between AC current and DC current and having a DC side connected to a DC output side of the first converter, a smoothing condenser connected between the first and second converters, a generator-speed control unit that controls the first converter and a DC voltage control unit that controls a DC-side voltage of the second converter, thereby the generator-speed control unit controls the first converter on the basis of the number of revolution command value.

  • Patent number: 6367570
Abstract: A parallel hybrid electric vehicle design delivers smooth, high power performance while decreasing harmful exhaust emissions and maximizing fuel economy. An electric motor strategically assists the internal combustion engine. This arrangement can increase driveability and make for a very smooth driving vehicle. Decreased emissions are realized by helping the engine to run in a fashion which inherently minimizes emissions. Fuel economy is significantly enhanced by efficiently producing power needed to make the car meet the demands of the driver while leveling the load demands placed on the internal combustion engine. When the internal combustion engine is operating very efficiently under light loading or deceleration, the power source is charged as the motor turns into a generator.

  • Patent number: 6349545
Abstract: Hybrid propulsion system comprising an internal-combustion engine (1) rotatably connected to a reversible electrical machine (2), a rechargeable battery (3), an electric driving motor (7), control apparatus (8) commanding first switching device (4, 5) for selectively connecting the battery (3) to the electric driving motor (7) and/or the reversible electrical machine (2). When the electric driving motor (7) is supplied with the current flowing in from the battery (3), said control apparatus (8) monitor the voltage at the poles (3P, 3N) of the battery (3). When the motor (7) is at least partially supplied with the current generated by the reversible electrical machine (2), owing to the latter being driven rotatably by the internal-combustion engine (1), the same control apparatus (8) monitor the voltage at the poles (2P, 2N) of the reversible electrical machine (2).

  • Patent number: 6067801
Abstract: In a hybrid vehicle, there is a shock in a transient period when a driving condition of an internal combustion engine is shifted from a loaded driving state for power generation, in which a load is applied to the internal combustion engine by a motor generator, to a non-loaded driving state for idling or motoring, in which no load is applied to the internal combustion engine. A hybrid power output apparatus of the present invention, in which the motor generator is mechanically linked with the internal combustion engine, prevents an abrupt change in output torque from the motor generator in the transient period from the loaded driving state to the non-loaded driving state. One procedure to attain this object sets the minimum revolving speed of the internal combustion engine in the loaded driving state to be greater than the revolving speed in the non-loaded driving state by approximately 200 rpm.

  • Patent number: 4158604
Abstract: Power generating plant which comprises a heat source, at least one main steam turbine and at least one main boiler heated by heat from the heat source and providing the steam to drive the turbine, comprises additionally at least one further steam turbine, smaller than the main turbine, and at least one further boiler, of lower capacity than the main boiler, and heated from the same heat source and providing steam for the further turbine.Particularly advantageous in nuclear power stations, where the heat source is a nuclear reactor, the invention enables peak loads, above the normal continuous rating of the main generators driven by the main turbines, to be met by the further turbine(s) and one or more further generators driven thereby. This enables the main turbines to be freed from the thermal stresses of rapid load changes, which stresses are more easily accommodated by the smaller and thus more tolerant further turbine(s).
