Abstract: The present invention relates to a biopsy needle, a sample extracting unit, a biopsy apparatus, and a biopsy needle control method. The biopsy needle includes an outer tube and an inner tube movably disposed within the outer tube. The inner tube has a plurality of inner openings defined in a side wall thereof. The outer tube has at least one outer opening defined in a side wall thereof. In response to movement of the inner tube, the outer opening selectively overlaps one of the inner openings thereby to define a communication port which communicates with an interior of the inner tube. The biopsy needle is incorporated in the sample extracting unit and the biopsy apparatus, and is controlled by the biopsy control method.

  • Patent number: 8740811
Abstract: This invention relates to a biopsy device consisting of an inner cannula (4) and an outer hollow tube (1), a handle (7) which may be removably attached to the outer hollow tube, a locking system to secure the inner cannula and/or the attenuator in the outer hollow tube, and characterized in that the tip of the outer hollow tube is ellipse shaped and extends beyond the inner cannula, the latter ending in a blunt edge. The blunted tip of the outer hollow tube together with the sharpened ending of the inner cannula determines the cutting edge of the device. In combination the distal ends of inner cannula and outer hollow tube determine the biopsy depth size and shape of the biopsy sample in a reproducible way. In one embodiment of the present invention, the length of the inner cannula can be controlled, allowing varying the aforementioned sample parameters as desired.

Abstract: The inventive technology describes to a novel surgical device having a high-speed rotating hollow cutting needle capable of longitudinally cutting, sampling, removing and/or coring targeted tissue pathologies as well as the efficient collection and/or disposal of said tissue pathologies. In particular, the inventive technology may be suitable for application on lesions near the skin, and/or pathologies internal to the body, and perhaps even especially for procedures performed in conjunction with image guidance, particularly active X-ray, computerized tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and/or ultrasound scans, where the presence of a large electro-magnetic field may impose significant constraints on the design and operation of mechanical mechanisms.

Abstract: A biopsy needle system includes a cylinder with a fluid connection end, an open end and a cylinder wall. A piston is coupled to a threaded spindle shaft. The threaded spindle shaft is configured to extend from the piston and through the open end of the cylinder. The piston is inserted in the open end such that a cylinder interior volume is defined between the piston and the fluid connection end. A spindle nut is mounted to the open end of the cylinder. The spindle nut is threadably engaged with the threaded spindle shaft and configured to displace the piston via a linear translation of the threaded spindle shaft when the spindle nut is rotated. A biopsy needle is connected in fluid communication with the fluid connection end of the cylinder.
