Abstract: The present disclosure provides in a method of treating muscle soreness or soft tissue oedema. The method comprises frictionally engaging a contact member of an apparatus with skin portions of a patient. The contact member of the apparatus is arranged to perform a substantially planar orbital motion along the skin portions. The method further comprises applying the substantially planar orbital motion along the skin portions of the patient so that soft tissue adjacent the skin portion is locally moved in a corresponding manner. The movement typically is a non-circular orbital movement having a base frequency and harmonics. The movement of the soft tissue results in a distortion of portions of lymph nodes located within the soft tissue whereby throughput of lymphatic fluid through lymph nodes is enhanced.

The members have first ends that extend through the channels to project beyond the top surface. Pressure applied to the first ends causes the members to be displaced axially along the channels toward the bottom surface without deformation. Pressure produced by body contact creates point pressures on the body area, and displacement of the members maintains the plurality of point pressures on the body area, alleviating excessive pressure. Abstract: This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 60/402,897, filed Aug. 13, 2002. A foot and toe scrubber has an elongated handle and an elliptical, conical, rectangular, squarish or cylindrical scrubbing element attached at one end of the handle. The scrubbing element is an elliptical, conical, rectangular, squarish or cylindrical foam or sponge material having a plurality of grooves and/or cells providing an overall uneven, irregular surface. The foot and toe scrubber is configured so that the scrubbing element can be applied and moved between and about the toes, as well as other areas of the feet. Application of the scrubber head to, between, around and about the toes and otherwise on the feet is to clean between the toes and other areas of the feet.

Abstract: A digit therapy device and method for progressively desensitizing a patient's sensitive digit tip such as a sensitive tip of a finger, thumb, toe or big toe. In one embodiment of the invention, the device comprises at least one elongated flexible member and an optional torsion adjuster for varying the torsion of the at least one elongated flexible member. In another embodiment, the device comprises at least one ridge and/or at least one strip adapted for progressively desensitizing a sensitive digit tip. In a further embodiment, a novel method is provided for desensitizing a sensitive digit tip comprising, for example, the step of repeatedly running a sensitive digit tip across at least one elongated flexible member, ridge or strip adapted to facilitate the desensitization of the sensitive digit tip.

Abstract: A foot scrubbing implement used in the shower or bath to wash and exfoliate skin of feet. The foot scrubber (1) holds a washing and scrubbing surface (8) in an outwardly curved, dome like shape. This domed shaped scrubbing surface (8) allows all areas of the feet (Balls of feet, toes, arches and side of foot and heal) to be scrubbed. The scrubbing surface (8) is made from materials suitable for cleaning and exfoliating the tougher skin of the feet. The foot scrubber (1) is held in place by standing on the flat bottom portion (2) with one foot, thus allowing the other foot to rubbed back and forth on the top portion. The shape and texture of the scrubbing surface provides an effective way to exfoliate both bottom and sides of feet. The foot scrubber is small and lightweight. It is constructed of materials that rinse out and dry quickly.

Abstract: A massager has a motor with a motor shaft extending out from opposite ends of the motor, a pair of linkages each rotatably and eccentrically connected to opposite ends of the motor shaft, a bridge securely attached to the linkages with a pair of flexible arms and a pair of massage nodes securely mounted on the bridge. The bridge is pivotal relative to the housing so that the movement of the linkages caused by the rotation of the motor shaft drives the massage nodes on opposite sides of the bridge to pivotally reciprocate laterally, providing a rubbing massage effect.

The hoop is placed around a waist or other body part of a user to travel around the body part upon rotation providing exercise with the foam sleeve to cushion the effect of the core against the body. The sleeve can also have circumferential ribs separated by circumferential troughs to provide knob-like undulations to massage the user while rotating the device around his or her body.

  • Patent number: 6689077
Abstract: An apparatus and method for alleviating excessive pressure development on a body area includes a cushion having bottom and top surfaces which are spaced apart. The top surface has a plurality of channels formed therethrough. A compressible inner layer is disposed between the top and bottom surfaces, and a plurality of elongate, inflexible members are supported by the inner layer and are disposed at least partially within the channels. The apparatus includes a enclosure cover and the members have large, tapered ends.

Abstract: The invention is a device used for relaxation and for the relief of stress. The device is placed next to a bed on which the subject lies prone. It may be situated on the floor or on a bed side table. An adjustable vertical support column mounted on a base supports a rotatably mounted motor cooperating with a horizontally oriented sweep arm. The sweep arm is equipped with depending “fingers” that make constant contact with the subject's back when the height of the support column is properly adjusted. Different types of “fingers” can be reversibly attached to the sweep arm. The sweep arm moves in a back and forth motion controlled by the rotating motor. A timer enables the device to be turned off automatically so as not to disturb the relaxation of the subject.
