  • Patent number: 8969652
Abstract: A sanitary napkin is disclosed as a form of disposable absorbent article. It has an absorbent core and a hydrophobic topsheet that has an upper side that is to be worn against a user's body. The topsheet is selected from a group of nonwoven topsheets and apertured film topsheets. A trace amount of a fibrous superabsorbent material, in the range of 0.30 and 3.5 grams of superabsorbent material per square meter, is provided in a fibrous matrix in a secondary topsheet that is in intimate contact with the lower side of the topsheet. The fibrous matrix is made by airlaying the superabsorbent material with cellulose and bi-component fiber onto a non-woven carrier.

  • Patent number: 8920391
Abstract: A container for use in a system for spray coating a human subject includes a container body configured to hold a skin coating composition. The container further includes a first end portion having a male coupling valve, where the male coupling valve is configured to couple to a female fitting disposed in a spraying apparatus, where the male coupling valve is further configured to prevent flow of the skin composition from the container while the male coupling valve is not coupled to the female fitting. The container further includes a second end portion opposite the first end portion and having a vent, where the container is configured for inverted connection to the spraying apparatus such that when the male coupling valve is connected to the female fitting the male coupling valve is at a location below the vent, and where opening of the vent allows airflow into the container as the skin coating composition flows out of the container through the male coupling valve.

  • Patent number: 8895799
Abstract: Provided are an absorbent and an absorptive article containing the absorbent which has excellent water absorbability and leakage prevention ability, and has an intent to achieve reductions in the weight and thickness of an absorptive article. The absorbent comprises a polysaccharide that causes a gelation reaction in the presence of a polyvalent metal ion and a source of the polyvalent ion, in which the polyvalent ion is supplied simultaneously with or after dissolution and swelling of the polysaccharide. The absorptive article containing the absorbent can achieve excellent water absorbability and leakage prevention ability and thus reductions in the weight and thickness as the absorptive article.

A knitted structure comprising a blend of gelling fibres and non-gelling fibres wherein the yarn comprises at least 50% w/w gelling fibres, a three-dimensional textile material comprising gelling fibres, and a yarn comprising a blend of gelling and non-gelling fibres which may be used in their production, the knitted structure and three-dimensional textile material beings suitable for use as wound dressings or as components of composite wound dressings. The wound dressings may be adapted for use in negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT). It has been found that the incorporation of gel-forming fibres provides a material which has a high absorbency, enabling good transfer of exudates away from a wound, which retains structural integrity, and which is non-adherent and easily removed from the wound.

  • Patent number: 8834434
Abstract: A surgical tissue therapy device includes a sealant layer and a collection chamber. The sealant layer functions so as to create a sealed enclosure or space between it and the surface of a patient by forming, preferably, an airtight seal around a surgical area of skin trauma. The closed incision tissue therapy device also comprises a collection chamber, which may comprise an elongate tubular chamber with a plurality of longitudinally spaced openings. The collection chamber may be configured to be in fluid communication with the sealant layer and the area of skin trauma and functions as to distribute the negative pressure applied to a surgically closed area of skin trauma. Preferably, the pressure under the sealant layer is reduced by expanding the volume of the enclosure space and thereby decreasing the density of air molecules under the sealant layer.
