Abstract: The present invention provides a method and a device for piercing a body part and determining whether a sufficient volume of blood has been withdrawn. A lancing element is rapidly inserted into a body part in a forward phase and retracted quickly to a lesser puncturing depth. Subsequently, the lancing element is retracted slower than during the first retraction movement and the distance retracted during the second retraction is shorter than the first retraction movement. During the second retraction movement, body fluid is collected in a collection phase by a capillary structure of the lancing element. Contact between the lancing element and the body fluid is detected after the forward phase at the beginning and the end of a waiting period.

The second portion of the spring is attached to the lancet holder. The spring drives the lancing mechanism between the cocking and puncture positions. The mass is located along the spring with the first and second portions of the spring extending on opposite sides of the mass. The mass is distinct from the lancet holder. The first portion dampens the lancing mechanism when moving from the puncture position to the resting position.

Abstract: Single-use blade lancet device includes a body having a rear end and a front end. A triggering mechanism has a blade tip opening and is mounted to the body. A blade member is movably mounted within the body and includes a front end and a rear end. The blade member is movable at least between a first retracted position, an extended position, and a second retracted position. A biasing arrangement biases the blade member from the first retracted position towards the extended position and then towards the second retracted position. A guiding arrangement guides the blade member while the blade member moves from the first retracted position towards the extended position and then towards the second retracted position. This Abstract is not intended to define the invention disclosed in the specification, nor intended to limit the scope of the invention in any way.

Abstract: Lancing system comprising a needle and a lancing device The lancing device comprises a housing with a housing opening that is surrounded by a housing skin contact surface. A lancing depth reference element with a reference skin contact surface is adapted in such a manner that the reference skin contact surface at a reversal point of the lancing movement is in contact with the skin. The lancing depth is determined by the distance between the reference skin contact surface and the tip of the needle element at the reversal point of the lancing movement. The lancing depth reference element is in a stationary defined position relative to the reversal point of the lancing movement. The lancing depth reference element is adapted to stabilize the skin when pressed against the reference skin contact surface with respect to a skin deformation which occurs upon lancing of the skin.

Abstract: A lancing device (e.g., pen) having an integrated thermoelectric (e.g., Peltier) cooler. The lancing device includes an elongated heat accumulator having a lumen along which a piston having a lancet thereon translates back and forth. A Peltier device and a cooling ring are thermally interconnected to one end of the heat accumulator and include central apertures through which the lancet can extend. The lancing device also includes an integrated battery and microcontroller for supplying and regulating power to the Peltier device. Upon a current being sent through the Peltier device, a cold side of the Peltier device and hence the cooling ring gives up thermal energy and reduces in temperature. The cooling ring can then be placed about a body tissue (e.g., skin) for a period of time (e.g., 3-5 seconds) to desensitize the body tissue, and then the lancet can be fired to puncture the body tissue.

  • Patent number: 8425547
Abstract: A lancet body for a skin pricker has resiliently flexible fingers (9) with outwardly splayed tips (10). The device is fired by pressing a trigger (13) and a spring (5) urges the lancet forwards and the fingers (9) flex inwards as the tips (10) snap past barbs (11), so that the tips (10) of the arms (9) engage behind the barbs (11). If the user tries to push the lancet back into the cocked condition, the fingers (9) are trapped and will flex as the tips (10) press against the barbs (11) until the arms buckle and the tips (10) are pushed out through openings (14). Thus the lancet is arrested and immobilized before a re-cocked position is reached, and re-firing is prevented.
