Patent number: 6598277Abstract: Setting of gems is accomplished by applying torque to flanges which extend from prongs that hold the gem in the setting. The flanges form integral lever extensions to provide a secure handle by which a force or torque can be applied without the risk of slipping and damaging the setting or gemstone. Notches or bendable sections of the prongs are located at grip locations and when the prongs engage the gemstone, the prong bends about the bendable section to secure the gem. To set a gem, the worker applies a clamping tool to individual ones of the levers, which results in the prong bending inward and gently twisting over the gemstone in a controlled manner. This allows the worker to control the pressure applied to the stone by the prong, thus limiting breakage of the gem. The levers are then removed from each prong by cutting and/or grinding, and the surface of each prong is then polished.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 2002Date of Patent: July 29, 2003Inventor: Joel Schecter

In accordance with the present method the affixation groove should be formed in the lower portion of the stone such that it too is hidden from view when the upper portion of the stone is viewed. A heat setting method is disclosed for improving the bond between the pavilion of the stone and the wax model used in the casting process. The method also includes the deposition of a mounting material within the affixation groove by applying a conventional casting method.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 2000Date of Patent: December 17, 2002Assignee: China Diamond Production Company LimitedInventor: Nelson Chi-Kai Ho

Publication number: 20020184916Abstract: A gemstone is enclosed within a transparent spherical setting. The transparent spherical structure is partially filled with a polyester or acrylic resin which is permitted to harden. The gemstone is disposed upon the surface of the hardened resin and the remainder of the sphere filled with a resin having equivalent visual properties. When the gemstone is set in place within the sphere, the visual image of the gemstone is measurably larger than the actual gemstone based upon the spacial relationship of the gemstone, the radius of the sphere and reflective and refractive properties of the materials of the sphere and maintaining resin. When light strikes the boundary surface between the sphere and the ambient atmosphere, a portion will penetrate into the sphere.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 7, 2001Publication date: December 12, 2002Inventor: Peggy Croft

Patent number: 6490886Abstract: A finger ring comprising a generally circular band defining a finger receiving opening. The band has a radially outwardly open window. A jewelry piece is removably received in a displayed position within the window. A pair of levers is rotatably supported on the band on opposite sides of the window. The levers have inner and outer segments and are rotatably adjustable between open and closed positions. In the open position the inner segments protrude into the finger receiving opening and the outer segments are removed from the window to thereby accommodate insertion and removal of the jewelry piece into and from the displayed position. In the closed positions the inner segments are removed from the finger receiving opening and the outer segments extend into the window to mechanically engage and retain the jewelry piece in the displayed position.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2000Date of Patent: December 10, 2002Assignee: Goldman Kolber, Inc.Inventors: David Steinhauer, Byron Sandoval
