Manacles And Cuffs Patents (Class 70/16)
  • Patent number: 7520149
Abstract: A combination writing instrument and handcuff accessory has a housing containing an elongated writing element with a writing tip. The housing has at its distal end a key suitable for opening a handcuff. The key has a longitudinal tunnel sized to allow passage of the writing tip. The housing also has a mechanism for reciprocating the writing element between a retracted and an extended position. The writing tip in the extended position extends (a) through the tunnel, and (b) outside the housing a predetermined distance. The portion of the writing element extending from the key can be inserted into a double lock hole of a handcuff.

  • Patent number: 7424811
Abstract: To handcuffs for preventing double-locking is added a structure or a member in which a stopper is in resilient contact with and is locked to bodies of the stationary hoops, so that the movement of the stopper is basically prevented even if shocks are transmitted from sides of the bodies of the stationary hoops while the handcuffs are carried, and thus the ability to move a detent thereof is secured. Thereby, a swivel hoop can be rapidly rotated under emergency circumstances while the handcuffs are carried, and can be meshed with the ratchet of a detent installed between the bodies of the stationary hoops.

  • Patent number: 7251964
Abstract: A double locking handcuff includes an interior spring laterally moveable between single- and double-lock positions. A finger-operated, pivoting cam is disposed within a slot extending through the cuff frame, and has a wide upper end accessible from the top of the cuff and a narrow, leg-like lower end positioned for movement against the spring. For double locking the handcuff, the cam upper end is moved downwards by hand. This causes the cam leg to press against and laterally shift the spring to its double-lock position. Because the cam is movable by hand and without the need for the handcuff key or for finding a double lock slot or pinhole, the double lock mechanism can be easily and quickly actuated. Also, when the handcuff is double locked the cam can be freely pivoted back and forth, providing direct tactile feedback that the handcuff is double locked.

The resistance provided by the double-radiused, double-rounded spring to movement of the stop increases to a maximum level of resistance as the stop is moved toward the single lock position, and then decreases, as contrasted with providing maximum resistance at the beginning of the stop's movement, and no resistance thereafter. Abstract: The apparatus of the present invention typically comprises a pair of opposing restraint members wherein a first restraint member is attached to a first end of a thin, flexible, high tensile belt, cord or cable tether, whose second end is attached to a controllably-ratcheted, winding-rewinding spool within a suitable housing. A second restraint member is attached to an opposite end of the housing. The housing may have respective arms which further include a pivotable connection. When actuated by a user, a controllable ratchet-pawl release mechanism permits the tether to be withdrawn against the tension of the rewinding mechanism. When the ratchet-pawl release mechanism ceases to be actuated, the tether can no longer be extracted and can only be ratcheted back onto the spool while being retracted by the rewinding mechanism, thus bringing the attached opposing restraint members toward a closed connection.

  • Patent number: 7000438
Abstract: A restraint system includes a wrist restraint system and an ankle restraint system that allow the limbs of a detainee to be restrained. The lockable wrist restraint system includes a waist belt and wrist restraints that are rotatably mounted to the waist belt. The wrist restraints can be positioned anywhere around the waist belt. The lockable ankle restraint system includes a strap and two buckles that form the strap into two loops. Each loop is used to restrain a leg of the detainee. A lockable buckle includes a housing that creates a tortuous path that traps a strap to which the buckle is mounted and prevents the strap from being adjusted or removed from the detainee.

  • Patent number: 6978644
Abstract: A solenoid operated mechanical mechanism for controlling the rotation of a gear comprising the use of a first linear element which moves in response to an electrical current to cause the rotation of a cam which, in turn, causes the movement of a second linear element which controls the rotation of a gear. The solenoid operated mechanical mechanism is particularly useful for controlling the opening and closing movements of a handcuff whose operating elements are comprised of a swing arm and at least one gear having teeth which engage the teeth of the swing arm.

  • Patent number: 6913020
Abstract: An apparatus, and method of use thereof, for storing, transporting and deploying multiple restraint system components is provided. The inventive apparatus consists of two trays composed of flexible materials. The first tray is configured for storing wrist and ankle restraint systems, the second tray, smaller than the first tray, includes a top-mounted compartment for storing a multi-point restraint connection system. The storage compartment of second tray is secured to the tray by releasable connectors, and is at least partially disengaged to receive the various components of the multi-point restraint connection system, and releasably secured thereafter. The connection system is stored in such a manner as to partially display a portion of each system component outside of the storage compartment, with each portion oriented toward its eventual deployment area once the second tray is placed on the structure on which the EDP will be restrained.

  • Patent number: 6880369
Abstract: A combination handcuff key and writing instrument finds particular application with law enforcement and security personnel and includes an elongated pen having a writing end and an opposite closed end, and a cap adapted to selectively receive either the writing end or the closed end of the pen. A paddle type handcuff key is formed on a closed end of the cap so as to extend longitudinally from the cap. With the writing end of the pen inserted into an open end of the cap, the writing element is protected and the pen and cap form a hand-holdable handle for the handcuff key that can be conveniently carried on the user's person for easy access. With the closed end of the pen inserted into the cap, a longer length pen for writing is created. The writing element preferably is of the ball point pen type enabling use to double lock a handcuff. An external clip on the cap facilitates attachment to the user's person and enables ready orientation of handcuff key when the cap is disposed in the user's hand.

  • Patent number: 6684666
Abstract: A set of handcuffs having an improved locking mechanism. The critical element of the locking mechanism is the utilization of a locking gear set that replaces the conventional pawl. The teeth in the locking arm are matched to the locking gear set and are always in constant and full contact with the locking gear set. This invention also uses a cam/cylinder locking device that controls the movement of the locking gear set. In the normal cam position the locking gear set will only turn in one direction, thus enabling the locking arm to close. In the second cam position the locking gear set will not turn in either direction. The cam can be rotated, through the use of a cylindrical key, in either directions. Rotation in one direction will select one of two locking positions. Rotation of the cylindrical key in the opposite direction will free locking gear set to rotate in the opposite direction thus disengaging the locking arm.

Abstract: A double-locking mechanism for handcuffs, which include a pawl-and-ratchet mechanism wherein the ratchet pawl is spring biased to couple with a pivotal ratchet jaw arm within in a shackle casing and a bolt is provided for engaging the pawl to prevent the coupled jaw from pivoting in either direction in order to double lock the mechanism. A pivot slide mechanism is provided whereby either the pawl or the bolt is not only permitted to pivot about an axis within the casing, but is also permitted to have limited displacement in a direction transverse to its pivot axis which thereby causes the pawl to engage a stop within the casing to double lock the pawl from pivoting in either direction and also causes the bolt under bias to displace from a first bolt position to a second bolt position and thereby engage and retain the pawl in the double lock position against the stop in order to ensure that the mechanism will remain double locked until opened with a key.
