  • Patent number: 6230530
Abstract: An apparatus for use with a control switch of a machine, such as an ignition switch of a motor vehicle, and with a locking device that is used to secure the machine when the machine is not in operation includes a covering that is detachably-attachable with respect to the control switch and the locking device. The covering is disposed in one of two positions. It is disposed in a first position over the control switch so as to prevent use of the control switch when the locking device is attached to the machine or it is disposed in a second position over a portion of the locking device so as to prevent use of the locking device when the locking device is not attached to the machine. When the covering is disposed over the control switch it serves as a reminder indicating that the locking device is attached to the machine. Alternative embodiments are described that provide various ways for making the covering and for attaching it to the control switch and to the locking device.

The invention is comprised of first and second semicircular casings wherein each casing has an inwardly curving lip disposed around the circular portion of its periphery. Each casing is designed to fit over a portion of the vehicle steering wheel such that when so disposed, the first and second semicircular casings can be secured together to completely encase the rim of the vehicle steering wheel. When secured around the rim of the vehicle steering wheel in this manner, casings prevent any portion of the rim from being broken or cut. Additionally, a radial bar is attached to the outer surface of one of the casings wherein the bar extends beyond the periphery of the steering wheel to prevent substantial rotation of the steering wheel. The bar is also used to join the first and second casings.

  • Patent number: 5862688
Abstract: A locking device (1), especially suitable for clamping onto motor vehicle wheels. It consists of a generally elongate lock case (2) and a first and second grip arm (3, 4), each connected to one end of the lock case. The grip arms (3, 4) are designed to grip from opposite sides at least partly around the edge of the wheel so that the lock case (2) lies essentially parallel to the axis of the wheel. The first grip claw (4) is slideably received in the lock case (2). The novelty of the invention resides in that in the lock case (2) there is provided a toothed bar (11) connected at one end to one of the grip claws (3), which, when the lock is in a locked state, engages with a check pawl (14). The check pawl (14) is operatively connected to the second grip claw (4). The lock case may also be equipped with a spring (17) for drawing together the two grip claws (3, 4).

Abstract: A motor vehicle security device for protecting against the cutting of an automobile steering wheel which includes a protective member made of cut-resistant material covering the steering wheel rim and a connector for attaching the protective member to the steering wheel rim. The protective member radially and circumferentially overlies the steering wheel rim to limit access to the rim and protect against cutting of the rim. The protective member includes two or more plate sections which can be collapsed into a smaller form for convenient storage. The protective member also includes a guide member to limit the movement of the plate sections with respect to one another.

  • Patent number: 5842360
Abstract: A security device for a motor vehicle comprising a cover adapted to be fitted over a portion of the steering wheel of the vehicle including at least one spoke and a portion of the steering wheel rim so as to render the cover irremovable by cutting any combination of the uncovered portions of the steering wheel, a locking mechanism cooperating with the cover and an extension from the cover to foul a driver's ability to operate the steering wheel. The locking mechanism further comprises a locking pin or pins and/or a lid to prevent rotation of the device relative to the steering wheel together with an extension from the cover to inhibit a driver from using the steering wheel when the security device is mounted.

  • Patent number: 5836185
Abstract: Two parts telescope so as to selectively engage the steering wheel at a portion of its rim. A third part independently telescopes relative to the first two parts so as to span a remaining portion of the diameter of the steering wheel, and so as engage the rim of the wheel at a point opposite to the portion where are located the first and second parts. One single key lock suffices to lock all telescoping parts in position, selectively engaging or releasing the device from the steering wheel at two points. The impediment presented by the locked device to turning the steering wheel is not subject to being defeated merely by cutting through either the steering wheel, or the device itself, at any single location.

  • Patent number: 5832759
Abstract: The vehicle detention device disclosed includes a pair of stopper blocks, a locking means, a pair of chains and a cover unit. One stopper block is fixed to a guide shaft and the other stopper block can be movably displaced to accommodate the size of the object tire. Locking means prevents movable stopper block from being displaced away from contact with object tire maintaining stopper block contact with object tire on either side of tire at ground contact point thus preventing rotation. A pair of chains is used to fasten object wheel to detention device when stopper blocks are placed in the engaged position. Key operated cover unit conceals access to mechanical components needed to release the detention device from the fastened condition thus preventing unauthorized removal of the device from the restrained vehicle.
