  • Patent number: 8522583
Abstract: In one aspect, the invention is directed to a closure latch for a vehicle door. The closure latch includes an emergency lock actuator to permit a person to lock the door in the event that the power lock actuator is unusable. The latch also includes an ‘impatient passenger’ feature, which permits the doors to be unlocked using the remote keyless-entry feature on the key fob even in a situation where an ‘impatient passenger’ had prematurely lifted the door handle of the vehicle. In some prior art latches, such an action by an ‘impatient passenger’ would prevent the drive motor on the latch from unlocking the latch, thereby necessitating the owner to press the unlock button on the key fob a second time. There is some overlap in the components that used for the ‘impatient passenger’ feature and the components used for the emergency lock actuator, thereby reducing cost and complexity of the latch.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a dual lock apparatus (10) of the type including a locking bolt (14) moveable between a first locked position and a second unlocked position said bolt movement corresponding with longitudinal movement of a slider (26) said apparatus including a first and a second locking means adapted to operate independently of one another. The first locking means (74) includes a rotatable cam (76) such that when rotated said cam acts against a moveable piston to thereby move said piston from a first position to a second position in which the second locking means becomes disengaged from said slider and further rotation of the cam urges longitudinal movement of the slider.

Abstract: A door lock includes a first driven wheel connected drivenly to a motor and having two resilient driving elements, and a second driven wheel connected drivenly to a rotary handle and the first driven wheel. The second driven wheel has a driven element disposed between and driven by the driving elements so that the second driven wheel moves to a first or second position to place a latch bolt in a latching or unlatching position. When the latch bolt is jammed, the second driven wheel is inoperative. However, as the driving elements are resilient, the first driven wheel can continue its rotation without being obstructed.

Abstract: A locking paddle handle assembly for closures has a housing with a paddle handle pivotally mounted therein, a latch which latches and unlatches the closure upon rotation of the paddle handle, and an exterior key lock with a movable member that shifts between locked and unlocked positions. A deadbolt lock selectively engages the closure frame in the locked position to positively retain the closure closed. The deadbolt lock is operably connected with the movable key lock member, such that movement of the latter between the latched and unlatched positions contemporaneously shifts the deadbolt lock between the locked and unlocked positions. A remotely operable controller may be mounted either horizontally or vertically relative the handle assembly and is operably connected to a multi-armed lock cam to power shift the deadbolt lock between the locked and unlocked positions from a remote location.
