  • Patent number: 6430975
Abstract: Changing the locking mechanism in a U-lock, cable lock or other tie lock as often as desired is achieved without compromising the lock's resistance to physical damage. This function is achieved by an auxiliary sleeve that removably fits over the U-lock's crossbar or the cable lock's end bar. Either bar provides an aperture, which is too small to permit the locking mechanism to be picked or pried, but which is operatively positioned and sufficiently large to provide access for a key to the keyway of the locking mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5865043
Abstract: A padlock concept consisting of a novel shackle comprised of two tapered shackle elements arranged so that they overlay each other to enclose and opening sufficient to accept the sample of a hasp or attachment device. The shackle elements are connected at one end and when unlocked and unlatched are free to move apart, in a motion causing the two shackle elements to separate, providing a clearance between them, at the unconnected end. Each shackle element includes an opening to allow the staple of the hasp to pass to the common opening. This clearance occurs in opposing elements so that when the elements are brought together or closed the staple of the hasp is completely enclosed by the two shackle elements which substantially fill the space available within the hasp staple. The elements are then latched and locked to provide the security function of a padlock engaged with the staple of a hasp or attachment device.

  • Patent number: 5755121
Abstract: A lock in which a key can neither be turned nor removed with the lock is open, is disclosed. The lock body is formed from two identical sections, the inner surface of each being provided with formations which accommodate the moving parts of the lock. The lock cylinder is provided with a plug which is operatively engaged to an extension. The lock shackle is engaged by a lock bearing which is held in place by the extension. Turning the key turns the plug and thus, the extension. This disengages the lock shackle as the lock bearing is no longer held in place. After it has been retracted, the contour of the lock shackle abuts the lock bearing, causing it to engage the extension, thus preventing the extension, the plug and the key from being turned.

  • Patent number: 5005386
Abstract: The principal purpose of this invention is to enhance locking and unlocking mechanisms of a padlock by improving structural components which allow the locking core member to be pushed into the lock body in order to trigger the locking mechanism by forcing locking plate and semi-circular sector thereof to be firmly engaged with locking notch located at the end portions of the U-shaped shackle arms. The unlocking mechanism can be triggered by simply rotating the locking core member with a key in one direction for 90 degrees, causing the locking core member and locking semi-circular sector to be disengaged. Therefore, this invention provides a padlock with improved safety features as well as convenience of ease of use.

Abstract: An easily manufactured, inexpensive, bicycle lock is provided with a U-shaped latch rod (3) with outside grooves (31) at its two ends, these ends being received into corresponding side holes of a tubular lock body (1) having a latitudinal hole. A protecting barrel (4) protrudes laterally of the lock body (1) to surround that end of the latch rod (3) inserted into one of the side holes to prevent easy breakage of the latch rod there. Covers (5) and (51) cover the lock body (1) (including the protruding barrel) and the latch rod (3) respectively. A lock core (2) engages one of the grooved ends of the latch rod (3) during use.

  • Patent number: 4869082
Abstract: A padlock cover with storage compartment, having a first portion which covers the case of a conventional padlock, this first portion having a pair of openings for passing the legs of the padlock shackle. The cover has a second portion having spaced apart walls that define a storage compartment, with an access opening in one wall. A flexible, resilient, elongated lid member is mounted in guide means such that it has a closed position in which one end portion covers the storage compartment opening and the other end abuts the releasably locked leg of the shackle to hold the lid closed; and the lid member being slidable to an open position in which the compartment opening is uncovered when the shackle leg is released from the padlock case thereby unobstructing further guided movement of the lid.

  • Patent number: 4689975
Abstract: A padlock of the kind having a body and a U-shaped shackle which projects above an upper end surface of the body. The shackle has a captured leg which is retained against separation from the body but which can move relative to the body to allow the shackle to adopt a locked or a released condition. Another leg of the shackle has an end portion which is located within the body and is clear of the body respectively in the locked and released conditions of the padlock. A shroud is formed integral with the body and extends upwards from the body upper end surface so as to completely protect the front of the shackle under both the locked and released conditions. The shroud has a rearwardly opening cavity which substantially contains the shackle when in the locked condition so that the shackle is exposed only at the rear of the padlock. The rear of the padlock is substantially flat, whereas the front has a convex curvature.

  • Patent number: 4545223
Abstract: A padlock, which comprises a lock casing and a basically U-shaped shackle slidable therein between a closed and an open position. The shackle has two legs of different length, of which at least one is provided with a locking notch. The padlock also comprises a cylinder lock mechanism, operable by a key, and at least one locking member coacting with a guiding portion of a turnable member of the cylinder lock mechanism for locking the shackle to the lock casing. The locking member is movable dependent on the angular position of the guiding portion of the cylinder lock mechanism between a locking and a releasing position. The releasing position allows the shorter shackle leg to completely slide out from the lock casing. A retaining member is attached to the lock casing in order to keep the cylinder lock mechanism properly fitted in the lock casing. The removal of the retaining member from the lock casing requires turning of the retaining member in relation to the lock casing.
