Abstract: Participants of a group of participants in a chat may be associated with neighborhoods. A neighborhood associated with a participant includes a subset of the participants and represents the participants whose messages the associated participant can see in the chat. When a participant generates a message, the message is presented to an audience that includes each participant with the participant that generated the message in their associated neighborhood. As the message receives indications of approval (e.g., “likes”), the size of the audience is increased to include additional participants. Once the message receives a threshold number of indications of approval, the message may be displayed to all of the participants in the chat. The size of the neighborhoods may be dynamically adjusted based on the number of messages that are generated in each neighborhood to keep the number of messages that are presented within a predetermined range.

Abstract: A method, system, and apparatus are directed to providing advertising information to a mobile device over a network. A request is received from the mobile device. The request may comprise a query, geo-location information, and/or a user preference. If the request comprises the query, a search result is generated based on a search for the received query and/or the received geo-location information. At least one virtual billboard is determined, wherein the at least one virtual billboard is in proximity with a first geo-location identified by the received geo-location information and/or a second geo-location associated with the search result. The virtual billboard may also be based on a type of the virtual billboard, a time, a user preference (criterion), and/or a keyword included in the query. The virtual billboard is provided to the mobile device. An advertising usage is recorded for the provided virtual billboard.

Abstract: A method for a conversational recommender system includes receiving at least one user preference from a user, generating an abstract explanation reflecting the at least one user preference and based on the abstract explanation, and retrieving a list of items to be evaluated by the user from an item database. The items on the list have a relevance with the user preference. The method further includes determining an initial ranking order of the items to be evaluated by the user, and ranking the items to be evaluated by the user based on a random walk algorithm and the initial ranking order. Items not ranked are remaining items. The method further includes receiving a user feedback of the ranked item, and re-ranking the remaining items based on the user feedback of the ranked items and the random walk algorithm.

Abstract: Data from social networking applications and other applications that can be used to communicate are combined for a user to generate a graph of the various relationships that the user has with other users in the social networking applications and other applications. In addition, the behaviors of each user with respect to communicating through the various social networking applications and other applications are monitored to generate task data that describes user preferences for communicating using each social networking application or other application for different tasks. At a later time, when a user is looking to connect with another user for an indicated task such as networking, the graph can be used to recommend paths to other users in the various social networking applications and other applications, and the generated task data can be used to rank the recommended paths based on the indicated task.

The system is also configured to determine a sentiment score for particular multimedia content, one or more segments of the particular multimedia content, a user, a group of users, or an organization. The sentiment score may be related to a general mood (e.g., confused, happy, bored) of the user when viewing one or more segments of particular multimedia content.

Abstract: Methods are presented for generating a natural language model. The method may comprise: ingesting training data representative of documents to be analyzed by the natural language model, generating a hierarchical data structure comprising at least two topical nodes within which the training data is to be subdivided into by the natural language model, selecting a plurality of documents among the training data to be annotated, generating an annotation prompt for each document configured to elicit an annotation about said document indicating which node among the at least two topical nodes said document is to be classified into, receiving the annotation based on the annotation prompt; and generating the natural language model using an adaptive machine learning process configured to determine patterns among the annotations for how the documents in the training data are to be subdivided according to the at least two topical nodes of the hierarchical data structure.

Abstract: A search system includes a device controller that provisions a device to execute a copy of a selected mobile application. A crawler extracts content and metadata from states of the selected mobile application. A search input state classifier identifies search input states within the states based on a first set of heuristics, including recognition of user-visible search indicia and recognition of metadata that correlates with search functionality. A parameter identifier identifies, for each of the search input states, necessary input parameters. A search function data store stores a record for each identified search function. Each record includes a path to reach a corresponding search input state, an indication of required input parameters, and a mapping of the input parameters to user interface widgets. A query processing system uses the stored search functions to scrape content from the selected mobile application in response to a query.

Abstract: An approach for filtering data is presented. A first geo-hash indicating location information of a person based on profile data or a second geo-hash indicating location information of the person based on an inference is determined to have more characters and is selected as an optimal geo-hash specifying a first geospatial tag. Based on correlations between geospatial tags, time/date stamps, and contextual information, a relationship between first and second entity-metadata elements specifying the person and a vehicle, respectively, and between the person and the vehicle is determined. Representations of the first and second entity-metadata elements are displayed within a regular polygon that includes locations indicated by the geospatial tags. Based on hidden Markov and support vector machine models, a frequent pattern growth algorithm, and a Kohonen map, another activity of the person is predicted.

Abstract: A method and system implemented for generating a music recommendation intended to surprise and delight a user using data and computer analytics. The method and system collects and categorizes musical preferences using past preferences, user demographics, social media data and psychological variables which include the Big-5 personality traits of the user to generate a profile containing preferred musical parameters. The method and system categorize music based on different dimensions and compare music with a user generated profile containing preferred music parameters. The method and system may search for additional music across two vectors, parameters that closely resemble the preferred musical parameters, and outlying parameters that extend outside the preferred parameters, in order to locate and present musical recommendations that have similarities to the preferred music of the user, but variable enough to surprise and delight the user.

Abstract: Techniques for improving rankings of search results generated by a search engine are described. A set of member profiles is identified. The identifying is based on keywords specified in a search query matching search index entries corresponding to the set of member profiles. A subset of the member profiles is selected. The selecting is based on a matching of the keywords to special index entries associated with the subset of the member profiles. The special index entries represent values of data fields specified in each of the subset of the set of member profiles. The special index entries also represent relationships between the values of the data fields. Ranking scores associated with each of the subset of the member profiles are boosted. A portion of each of the set of member profiles is communicated for presentation in user interface in order of the ranking scores.

Abstract: A new approach is proposed that contemplates systems and methods to provide a ranking of cited objects and citing subjects identified as results of a search, where the relative expertise of subjects or sources of citations to said targets or objects is considered. The relative expertise is a function of the share of the subject's citations matching the query term or search criteria relative to the share of all subjects' citations matching the query term, weighted by the influence of the subjects. This allows the identification of “experts” on “topics” without any pre-defined categorization of topics or pre-computation of expertise. Under this novel approach, expertise can be determined on any query term in real-time.

Abstract: In some implementations, systems and methods are capable of performing location-based voice query recognition. Audio corresponding to an utterance of the user and data indicating a location associated with a user are initially received. An initial transcription of the utterance is then obtained. A set of n-grams that are associated with a region are selected for each of multiple regions that are associated with the location. One or more additional candidate descriptions are generated for one or more of the multiple geographic regions. A representative transcription of the utterance is selected for one or more of the multiple geographic regions. The representative transcription is finally provided to an automated speech recognizer.

Abstract: A method is described for user correction of speech recognition results. A speech recognition result for a given unknown speech input is displayed to a user. A user selection is received of a portion of the recognition result needing to be corrected. For each of multiple different recognition data sources, a ranked list of alternate recognition choices is determined which correspond to the selected portion. The alternate recognition choices are concatenated or interleaved together and duplicate choices removed to form a single ranked output list of alternate recognition choices, which is displayed to the user. The method may be adaptive over time to derive preferences that can then be leveraged in the ordering of one choice list or across choice lists.

The set of annotations is propagated to an additional search query such that the set of annotations and the strength of the correspondence are used by a search engine to enhance search results corresponding to the additional search query.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system for recommending content of a predefined category to an account holder, or account holders based on the account holder application graphs. The system receives information corresponding to applications executing on the client device of the account holders and generates an application graph for each account holder that includes a list of predefined application categories that are preferred by the account holder. Abstract: A network-based enterprise or other system that makes items available for selection to users may implement real-time updates to item recommendation models based on matrix factorization. An item recommendation model may be maintained that is generated from a singular value decomposition of a matrix indicating selections of items by users. A user-specific update to the item recommendation model may be calculated in real-time for a particular user such that the calculation may be performed without performing another singular value decomposition to generate an updated version of the item recommendation model. Item recommendations may then be made based on the user-specific update and the item recommendation model. In various embodiments, the item recommendations may be made in response to an indication or request for item recommendations for the particular user.

A segment of the media file is scored based on interactions of a set of raters. Viewer metrics on the segment of the media file are measured based on interactions with the segment of the media file by a set of viewers. A set of feature vectors are formed based on the measured viewer interactions, where feature vectors in the set of feature vectors are based on interactions of the set of viewers. A model is trained based on the set of feature vectors and the score assigned to the segment of the media file. The model is applied to segments of the media file to generate an interest rating for segments of the media file. An edited media file is generated based on segments of the media file having interest ratings that meet a criterion.

The extracted data is filtered into a geo-activity zone cell based on the first and second portions of metadata being within metadata boundaries.

Abstract: A method and system for providing social media ecosystem searching services. Cascading searching is used to locate a desired person in a social media ecosystem. Plural related micro-levels are created in cascading searching lists. The plural related micro-levels include one or more cross-connections between the plural cascading merged lists including cross-connections between the search categories, search subcategories or search keywords in the search categories and search subcategories. The cascading searching provides micro-level searching for a desired person in the social media ecosystem at a level not available with other searching techniques. The system includes voice search requests and automatic translation of search requests and communication requests once a desired person is located into plural different languages.
