In one example, component(s) of the search module (e.g., the interface element) may also be re-located and/or re-sized to further facilitate in providing focus to the search module. In another example, other modules associated with the search module may be added to the presentation of the dynamic web page in response to detecting the input from the user that activates the search module.

Abstract: Embodiments are directed towards receiving and processing search queries directed towards relatively large sets of data. The data is stored in a record based datastore. From the stored data, field names, corresponding field values, and posting values may be determined. Posting values may be employed to locate records in the datastore that include the field names and field values. The field names, field values, and posting values may be employed to generate a lexicon. If queries are received, a lexicon query processor may employ the lexicon separate from the datastore to generate responses to the received queries. Queries may include clauses that may be processed using the lexicon separate from the datastore, such as, where clause expressions, group-by clause expressions, aggregation functions, or the like. A time values array may be used to enable queries to process group-by-time expressions that may return results grouped into sub-sets based on time ranges.

Abstract: A system and method obtain a database stored on a storage device containing information on multiple assets, the information including measurements taken from devices monitoring each asset, and context information corresponding to the environment the items are subjected to. The system and method groups assets via a computer system into a homogenous group as a function of selected context information and performs analytics via the computer system on the grouped assets to manage the assets.

Abstract: A computer implemented method, system and computer program product for providing search results in response to a search query includes receiving, by a processor, a search query from a user. A processor detects that the search query includes a request for a comparison-mode query and the processor automatically detects terms in the search query indicating that the query includes components. The comparison-mode query is decomposed into respective, individual component queries for the respective components and the query is performed as respective component queries for the respective, individual components. This includes finding an individual result for each respective, individual component from a single, remote website. The user is presented the individual results of the component queries, which includes aligning the results side-by-side and vertically, so that although the results are for respective, individual components, the alignment tends to help the user compare the individual results.

Abstract: The present invention is a method and system for searching for items on a computer network, such as the internet, based on a query and an exclusion specification comprising a specification of a characteristic of sources of the items, to create a list of identifiers of items relevant to the query that are not excluded by the exclusion specification. Such characteristics include measures of popularity of the sources of the items so that items from sources having popularity greater than the specified popularity may be excluded from the list.

Abstract: A search operation can provide geographically restricted and verified information to a user. A two-step approach is used to perform these searches. The first step is to obtain high relevance search results by searching only in a specific region defined for a search operation. The second step further improves the quality of the search results by performing contact address correlation. If the search server finds a reliable reference address in the search results, then these search results can be presented to the user, whereby search results that are not correlating well with legitimate and registered addresses for the site are removed from the search result lists. Therefore, the region-restricted search does searching in a selected geographical region and only presents legitimate web pages or search results to a user.

A determination is made as to whether any of the encoding code points exist within a historic code point table. Responsive to at least one encoding code point existing within the historic code point table, all code points associated with each identified encoding code point in the user query are retrieved from the historic code point table. A modified user query is then created that utilizes the encoding code points of the user query and the code points from the historic code point table. The modified user query is then executed.

That is, user intent (e.g., intentions of a user to perform a user task) may be identified. A provider list may be created based upon one or more providers capable of performing the action on the entity (e.g., a movie application may be capable of performing the order movie tickets action on the movie entity). In at least one embodiment, a user is identified as belonging to one or more groups of users, or to a hierarchy of groups. A category of entities, preferred by at least of the hierarchy of identified groups, is identified. The category of entities preferred by the at least one identified group corresponds to the category of a user-preferred entity preferred by the user. An entity from the category of entities is selected; the selected entity is not the user-preferred entity. The selected entity is provided to the user as a recommended entity to the user.

Abstract: Systems and methods presented herein provide for intelligent print options to a user selecting web content of search results provided by a search engine. For example, the user may choose to perform a search through a search engine by entering search criteria within a webpage of the search engine. The search engine may return the search results to the user's web browser via the search engine's webpage. Along with these results, print options may be provided to the user on the webpage. By selecting to automatically print one or more of the search results, the content of the selected result(s) may be converted to a printable format such that page numbers may be counted and returned to the user. Based on the number of pages, the user may make a more informed decision as to whether the user should print the content.

One method includes identifying a plurality of web pages, wherein the plurality of web pages each have a relationship with the first file, wherein the world wide web provides a platform for sharing web pages, and wherein each web page includes a document or information resource that is suitable for the world wide web and is accessible through a web browser. The method further includes generating a list of inquiries based on the plurality of web pages, providing, the list of inquiries to at least one author of the first file, receiving from the at least one author at least one response to the list of inquiries, selecting a subset of the plurality of web pages based on the at least one response, and storing information related to the selected subset of the plurality of web pages.

Abstract: Architecture that computes a dominant image from one or more images on a webpage. A dominant image classifier scans webpages in an offline-created index to identify the prominent images in the webpages. In a more specific implementation the image selected is the image associated with a name query. Face detection technology can be utilized to identify which of the images on a given webpage contain faces. A query classifier identifies queries that contain people names. In the context of search engines and search result pages, the web results for name queries can further include prominent people face images as thumbnail images. Additional facts (structured data) can further be included that together with the results elements of caption title, snippet and attribute (uniform resource locator (URL)) provide an improved summary of the person on the page.

Abstract: Deeplinks relevant to the context of a search query are included with a search result returned in response to the search query. Deeplink hierarchies may be generated for websites by analyzing web pages within the websites. A deeplink hierarchy for a website includes a hierarchy of nodes with each node including a group of deeplinks to web pages within the website. When a search query is received and a web page result identified, the search query may be employed to identify a relevant node of deeplinks from a deeplink hierarchy for a website corresponding with the web page result. A search result may then be returned for the web page result that includes the identified deeplinks.

Examples of network characteristics include, but are not limited to, the source and destination addresses (Internet Protocol (IP) addresses), time and date of the transmission, size and name of the content, and protocol used to transmit the content. Abstract: The subject disclosure is directed towards using cursor activity with respect to search result pages to enhance search engine operation. Data associated with the cursor activity may be translated into cursor events representing user interactions with a search result page. Based on the cursor events, user behavior indicia may be identified via a user intent prediction model corresponding to various search result page related user actions. The user behavior indicia and/or the user intent prediction model may be used to produce search result pages for current search queries from the user.

Abstract: A similarity analysis framework is described herein which leverages two or more similarity analysis functions to generate synonyms for an entity reference string re. The functions are selected such that the synonyms that are generated by the framework satisfy a core set of synonym-related properties. The functions operate by leveraging query log data. One similarity analysis function takes into consideration the strength of similarity between a particular candidate string se and an entity reference string re even in the presence of sparse query log data, while another function takes into account the classes of se and re. The framework also provides indexing mechanisms that expedite its computations. The framework also provides a reduction module for converting long entity reference strings into shorter strings, where each shorter string (if found) contains a subset of the terms in its longer counterpart.

Abstract: Methods, computer systems, and computer-readable storage media for utilizing breadcrumb information associated with a Web page to improve a user's search experience on a search engine page and to improve ranking of search results are provided. Breadcrumb information is identified for a plurality of Web pages and is used to create an entity data structure. The entity data structure is used to determine related search items, deep links, and query suggestions on a search engine page. Further, contextual relationships between different breadcrumb elements that are part of a breadcrumb trail associated with a Web page are identified and used to adjust a ranking order of the Web page on a search engine results page.

Abstract: A method for managing the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) content of web pages is disclosed. In one embodiment, such a method includes providing a set of web pages organized in a hierarchical structure. Each web page has an SEO content pattern associated therewith. The method establishes an inheritance scheme for the hierarchical structure such that the SEO content patterns of parent web pages are inherited by children web pages. The method further enables a user to override the inheritance scheme for selected web pages such that the SEO content patterns of the selected web pages override the SEO content patterns of their respective parent web pages. This step determine how strongly tied the scanned data content of two different webpages are to each other. The search expression term can be a Boolean expression or a statistical mask. The statistical mask is used as a seed to start another search moving closer to the final target or desire goal.

The items include navigational links, search results, advertisements, or any other content or items included in a search results webpage. User engagement with the items via the search-engine results page and/or other webpages is tracked. A user-engagement score and an age of the items are determined. A temporal-bias factor is calculated using a decay function that increases in intensity with the age of the items. A rank score is calculated for each item based on the user-engagement score and the temporal-bias factor—the temporal-bias factor decreasing the rank score as a function of the age of the items. The items are ranked based at least in part on the rank score and one or more of the items are chosen for presentation in a search-engine results page.
