Abstract: A system and method of accessing remote services through a network including generating a message within a local computer system using a process having a specified type and version. The message is associated with the specified type and version and transported to an remote service provider system. The remote service provider system parses the message to identify the type and version information, then passes the message to a particular process that corresponds to the process used to generate the message based upon the type and version information.

Abstract: The method and system of the present invention provides an improved method for asset transition project management. Information is aggregated from a variety of sources into a centralized computerized database. Thereafter, assets that are electronically connected to the computerized database are monitored. If a transition occurs, information concerning the transition is input into the computerized database on a real-time basis during the implementation of the transition. The information input into the computerized database can be used to manage the transition.

Abstract: A host apparatus capable of setting an N-up function and a control method thereof. The host apparatus provides a function of printing a plurality of pages on a single sheet of printing paper, and includes a Graphic User Interface (GUI) generating unit which generates a user interface to set a border attribute of the pages, a border generating unit which generates border data by incorporating the border attribute if the border attribute of the pages is set, and a driver control unit which converts the generated border data and print data corresponding to the plurality of pages into a printer language. Accordingly, a user is provided with customized N-up printing, which provides a printout of a plurality of pages on a single paper sheet with borders as desired by the user.

Abstract: A backup account recovery authentication of last resort using social authentication is described. The account holder requests trustees who have been previously identified to obtain an account recovery code. The account recovery system sends a communication to the trustee for information to verify the trustee as one of the previously identified trustees. The account recovery system then may transmit a link and code with instructions for the trustee to return the link. The account recovery system then transmits a situational query to the trustee to provide additional security. Finally, if all the communications have been completed for the required level of security, the account recovery code is transmitted to the trustee. The trustee sends the account recovery code to the account holder for access to an account.

Abstract: The present invention is directed towards systems, methods and computer program products for providing keyboard navigation between components within a content item. The method of the present invention comprises receiving the content item from a server and receiving a signal indicating keyboard utilization by the user to determine a specific key that the user presses. A determination is made as to whether the specific key is from a monitored set of keys and if the specific key is from a monitored set of keys, performing an action associated with the specific key.

Abstract: Reading data from an eBook is used to generate time-based information. Timing reports are received from a plurality of clients. The timing reports describe reading time intervals for reading portions of an eBook on the clients. Timing reports from different clients describe reading time intervals for different overlapping portions of the eBook. The overlapping portions are analyzed to generate timing information. The timing information describes reading speeds for granular portions of the book that are smaller than the portions described in the reading time intervals. The timing information is stored. Timing information is provided to a client enabling the client to provide advanced features. The features include estimating a user's current reading position and providing an estimate of the time required by the user to finished reading a portion of the eBook.

Abstract: Technologies are described herein for document collaboration by transforming and reflecting a document object model. A DOM representation of a document to be shared is obtained at a host computer, transformed, and reflected to one or more participant computers. Each of the participant computers receives the DOM representation of the document and renders and displays the DOM representation locally. When the DOM representation is modified, changes to the DOM representation may also be transmitted to the participant computers, rendered, and displayed. Events occurring with respect to the DOM may also be synchronized between the host and participant computers.

Abstract: A method keeps a web session alive for an amount of time allowing to keep a limited amount of data on the Internet information server and manage individually the session timeout characteristics of the web session in the web application. The method automatically refreshes the web pages in the background without any further user interaction. Thereby, a portion of code added effectively creates a hidden postback that keeps alive the session's state. By a class library, the user is enabled at the engineering level to manage a session timeout state and to eliminate a premature timeout thereby eliminating any risk of possible data loss.

Abstract: In a pen-based computing system, a user-specific smart pen application is created from a template application using customer authoring tools. The template application contains computer program code that is to be executed by a processor of a smart pen. Application content and a representation for printed content are received. The application content, provided by user or customer, defines functional interactions between the printed content representation and a smart pen. The template application is combined with application content to generate a user-specific application comprising instructions for being executed on a processor of a smart pen. The user-specific application is stored on a storage medium.

Abstract: A computer implemented system and method in a client-server environment, is provided for document research, aggregation, and compilation. The system and method includes a server having a search module configured to generate a search interface displayable to a client communicably coupled to the server, and responsive to instructions received via the search interface, to search and sort selections of interest within a plurality of source documents. A customized report module is configured to generate a custom report interface displayable to the client, and responsive to user selection instructions received via the custom report interface, to extract and aggregate the selections of interest into a customized report. Format modules are configured to respectively enable source documents in mutually distinct formats such as the PDF, PPT, and XLS formats, to be searched, sorted, and aggregated by the search module and customized report module.

Abstract: A system and method for automatically extracting meta data from unstructured electronic documents is disclosed. In one embodiment, the unstructured electronic document is converted into a plain text document. Further, a document header of the unstructured electronic document is extracted from the plain text document using a rule-based document header extractor, where the rule-based document header extractor may be based on a rule that includes determining a ratio of a number of words with their initial letters capitalized in a text line over a total number of words in the text line in the plain text document. Moreover, meta data is extracted from the extracted document header using a heuristic approach.

Abstract: A method to convert visually orientated objects to embedded text is disclosed. In a particular embodiment, the method includes scanning an electronically stored document, identifying at least one visually orientated object within the document, analyzing the at least one visually orientated object to generate a textual description of the at least one visually orientated object, and embedding the textual description within the electronically stored document, and storing a converted document with the embedded textual description for distribution to users of text to speech synthesizers and Braille output devices. In addition, the method includes identifying text characters within the at least one visually orientated object. The text characters within the at least one visually orientated object are used in generating the textual description of the visually orientated object.

Abstract: For controlling a time-scaling of an audio signal, the audio signal being distributed to a sequence of frames that are received via a packet switched network, a change in a delay of received frames is detected. Moreover, an amount of time scaling that is to be applied to received frames for compensating for the detected change is determined. Further, a kind of the change is determined. Further, a length of a time window within which a time scaling of the determined amount is to be completed is determined depending on the determined kind of the change.

Abstract: A method for presenting information on a timeline is provided, the method comprising displaying the plurality of documents on the timeline using either a linear or a non-linear timescale. Documents presented along a linear timeline can switch to a non-linear timeline and vice-versa. The plurality of documents can be search results provided along the timeline representing a time attribute of each result. More than one timeline can be used to display documents, each timeline using a timescale that can be similar or dissimilar. An interface and a system for implementing the method is also provided.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for generating on at least one display device a graphics display of data descriptors. The data descriptors, describing items of data, are arranged on an interactive timeline as interactive timeline elements along with interactive data elements. The interactive timeline elements and the interactive data elements allow retrieval of the items of data.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein may include sending transport objects that include content; sending presentation objects that include instructions for providing a presentation of the content; and sending a delivery object that lists at least one of transport object and indicates the content of the transport object. In some embodiments the delivery object may include data identifying the presentation objects; the instructions may include a start time and an end time for the presentation of the content, and a receiver class identifier indicating a group of targeted receivers that have particular receiver capability factors. Some embodiments may include in response to receiving the presentation objects, selecting one of the presentation objects at least partly based on the terminal class identifier; and providing a presentation of the content as defined by the selected presentation object.

The system can include one or more interfaces for media content devices (e.g., communications devices, still or video cameras, audio devices, or any other suitable media content storing or generating devices). An interactive multimedia diary can be composed by collecting and arranging a plurality of media types (e.g., images, video, audio, text, etc.). Alternatively, other suitable data collections such as a journal, a scrapbook, an album, a log, a notebook, or a memoir can be composed. The system can prompt a user for input based on input previously entered. The system can scan input text for keywords, such as verbs associated with common activities, previously used or new names, locations, or any other suitable concepts and prompt the user for more information.

In one embodiment, model components can be updated during system operation.

Abstract: Content providers may specify special formatting instructions to manage formatting of content that is ultimately displayed by electronic devices. The formatting instructions may include formatting that is not apparent from an original format of the content. The formatting instructions from a content provider may override default formatting that is used by a viewing application on the electronic device or a host (intermediary) that formats the content for the electronic device, which would otherwise control a format of the content. The formatting instructions may be based on attributes of the electronic devices, such as display size, display type, etc. By enabling content providers to specify these special formatting instructions, the content providers may retain control of an ultimate look and function of the content when the content is formatted for a particular electronic device.

Abstract: A method of providing content to a user uses a browser, connects to a server; and performs a check. The method provides a set of modules, and thereby forms a page of modules. The method customizes a first module in the set of modules, saves the customization, and executes a function provided by a module in the set of modules. Initially, the set of modules may include a default set of modules, which includes the first module and a second module. The first module may assume several shapes, and content presented by the first module automatically adjusts according to the shape of the first module to maximize a field of view of the content for the user. Preferably, the first and second modules are stacked such that a horizontal dimension of the first and second modules spans the width of a browser window.

Abstract: Methods and systems link non-geometric data to the geometric elements in a CAD file. The methods and systems are independent of any CAD system and allows the user to add, edit, view, query and report on non-geometric data associated with geometric data. The methods and systems support “content rich” non-geometric data and allow this data to be ‘attached’ to any level of the geometric CAD data. The methods and systems are easily accessible outside of a CAD system and leverage existing standards for Internet commerce.

Abstract: An apparatus, method and article of manufacture of the present invention provide an enhanced user interface for a computer system that maximizes a reader's ability to rapidly comprehend a text. The invention provides a dynamically presented outline of the text, such that the reader maintains a sense of location within the entire text. Additional information about the text and results of operations on the text are presented on the corresponding portions of the outline.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for constructing web (or other networked) documents as parameterized forms of other networked documents. For example, a document may be represented as a collection of changes to be applied to a first document which is incorporated by reference in the second document. Instead of delivering the entire document over a slower network connecting the content server to the content browser, the document is delivered as a collection of changes to previously delivered documents that are much closer to the user's content browser. In an exemplary embodiment of the invention, special software is not necessarily required at the end user for reconstructing the second document from the set of base documents and the set of modifications to the base documents.

Abstract: An interactive multimedia presentation has a predetermined presentation play duration, a video content component (which may include video, audio, data, or any combination thereof), and an interactive content component. Methods and systems for playing the presentation include specifying a time when a particular media object is renderable. The time is specifiable using an application instruction that references either a first timing signal having a rate that is based on the play speed of the presentation, or a second timing signal having a continuous rate. One example of an application instruction usable as described above is an element associated with an XML data structure. An attribute of the element, such as the clock attribute, may be used to provide time values for the element that reference either timing signal. The attribute is used to maintain frame-accurate synchronization between the video and the interactive content components of the presentation.

Abstract: Embedded system with web-based user interface, firmware structure thereof, and method for providing information thereof are provided. The firmware of the embedded system includes an execution part and a presentation part, which are separated, wherein the execution part includes a web service program and a program interface while the presentation part includes a web page which includes a request for dynamic content associated with the program interface so as to obtain corresponding dynamic content. When the system takes the presentation part as the static content of its web-based user interface, the web service program, in response to a static content request, reads the web page from the non-volatile memory and outputs it to a device, and in response to the dynamic content request, invokes the program interface to obtain the corresponding dynamic content and output it to the device.

Abstract: Methods and systems described herein can allow for a service provider, such as an Internet Service Provider (ISP) to provide Web pages to users' Web browsers at periodic intervals. The content can include graphics, text, audio and video clips. In contrast to the traditional banner or pop-up advertisements available today, the methods and systems can allow content Web pages to be displayed on users' Web browsers without the user requesting specific Web sites. The ISPs can become distributors of advertising content, potentially gaining new revenue streams.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for archiving and displaying lengthy documents based on content priority levels may include (1) identifying a document that is to be archived, (2) identifying at least one section of content within the document, (3) identifying a priority level associated with the section of content within the document that prioritizes access to the section of content relative to at least one other section of content within the document, (4) archiving the document based at least in part on the priority level associated with the section of content, and (5) providing prioritized access to content within the archived document in accordance with the priority level associated with the section of content in order to allow a user to access a portion of the archived document without having to access the entire archived document. Various additional methods, systems, and encoded computer-readable media are also disclosed.

Abstract: Methods and systems are described for binding attributes between visual components. A first visual component, including a first presentation space for presenting first data by an operating first application, is detected. Binding information, for the first application, is identified that specifies a mapping between a first visual attribute of the first visual component and a second visual attribute of a second visual component including a second presentation space for presenting second data by a second application. A change to the first visual attribute is detected. In response to the detection of the change, change information is automatically sent to change the second visual attribute according to the mapping.

Abstract: Improved graphical user interfaces and techniques for providing remote media content to users are disclosed. According to one aspect, an application window display on a display device can expose a user not only to local media content but also to remote media content that is associated with the local media content. The local media content is stored locally, while the remote media content is stored remotely and available from a remote media server. According to another aspect, the remote media content to be displayed can be determined in a manner that is dependent on a user interaction with the local media content. According to still a further aspect, the manner by which the remote media content is displayed can be dependent on the availability of remote media content at the remote media server.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for explicit filtering in ambiguous text entry. The invention provides embodiments including various explicit text entry methodologies, such as 2-key and long pressing. The invention also provides means for matching words in a database using build around methodology, stem locking methodology, word completion methodology, and n-gram searches.

Abstract: Methods and systems for web page restoration are provided. A method for restoring web pages includes identifying a root node of a node graph, wherein each node of the node graph represents an object of a plurality of objects that form a last state of a web page, including DOM objects. The method also includes traversing the node graph to a next frontier node and determining an object identifier of the next frontier node. The method further includes storing the object identifier and associated properties into a queue of objects when the object identifier of the next frontier node is not found in the queue of objects. The queue of objects may be used to restore objects with object properties having values according to the last state of the web page. Scripting language objects may also be stored for later restoration.

Abstract: A computer implemented system and method in a client-server environment, is provided for document research, aggregation, and compilation. The system and method includes a server having a search module configured to generate a search interface displayable to a client communicably coupled to the server, and responsive to instructions received via the search interface, to search and sort selections of interest within a plurality of source documents. The computer system generates a locale package that includes one or more display format parameters that correspond to the format of the selected information. In one aspect, a method includes providing an electronic document that has a document format compatible with a document reader application. The electronic document includes a broker application and a client application. The broker application can be loaded into a virtual machine running in the document reader application on a client device. The loaded broker application loads the client application into the virtual machine, and the loaded client application provides a graphical user interface for display. In some instances, the loaded broker application receives data from the loaded client application and stores the received data as a data set in the electronic document. In some instances, the loaded broker application retrieves a data set from the electronic document and provides the retrieved data set to the loaded client application.

Abstract: A document management platform system and methodology for capturing, transmitting, storing, retrieving and displaying documents, document versions, and images in a shared-system environment using the Internet or other network. Through utilization of thumbnail images along with full images, transmission of multipage documents is facilitated, avoiding system bottlenecks. Document security is hierarchically based with document control being available to system users in addition to system administrators.

Abstract: Techniques are provided that allow users to collaborate in relationship to data views, application displays, applications or events. A user can type in a text view related to a specific view in an application display, and the information is shared with other users that take part in sharing that view. A user that expresses an interest in an event is notified about the event and has the capability to interact, in relation to the event, with other users (e.g. by text). The particular form of interaction (and sharing) can be selectively specified. This interaction is comparable to a dynamic bulletin board where the subject is event driven, and where a user can specify who are allowed to participate. In the case of an event interest(s), users specify their interest (e.g. in other user application events or system events) and the system automatically alerts them to the occurrence of the event.

The user interface may include a title bar for switching between the different views and for displaying notifications. The different views may include content generated by users of the content feed. Content in the different views may be filtered based on a type and a priority of the content during the presentation of each of the views in the user interface.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer program product are provided to facilitate seamless switching between source and target devices. Relative to the source device, a user interface state of the source device is provided to the target device and database replication is initiated in response to an indication of a switch between the source and target devices. The target device is permitted to access a database of the source device while the source database is replicated to the target device. Relative to the target device and in response to a switch from the source device to the target device, the state is received from the source device in conjunction with an initiation of database replication. The user interface is configured in accordance with the state received from the source device. The target device also directs access to a database of the source device while the source database is replicated.

Abstract: A mechanism is provided for improving search results. A user query is analyzed to identify a set of characters in the user query and an encoding code point associated with each character. A determination is made as to whether any of the encoding code points exist within a historic code point table. Responsive to at least one encoding code point existing within the historic code point table, all code points associated with each identified encoding code point in the user query are retrieved from the historic code point table. A modified user query is then created that utilizes the encoding code points of the user query and the code points from the historic code point table. The modified user query is then executed.

Abstract: An on-demand hyperlink computer search tool implements a method of providing hyperlinked search results that overlay a computer document. The method includes selecting an object in a computer document, submitting the object to a search engine, receiving results, categorizing the results as clusters and displaying the clusters. The clusters are displayed in layers on the same page as the computer document and over the object. Furthermore, an “additional object” may be selected from the clusters. If the selected “additional object” hyperlinks to a specific website, the website is retrieved. If not, the method repeats the process iteratively until “another additional object” that is selected hyperlinks to a specific website.

Abstract: A system, method and a computer-readable medium for optimizing cascading style sheet (CSS) rules. The system includes a parser, an optimizer and a compiler. The parser is configured to generate a template tree and a CSS tree. The template tree is associated with a template file that includes one or more templates. The CSS tree is associated with a CSS file that includes one or more CSS rules. The optimizer is configured to traverse the template tree and the CSS tree, and identify each node in the template tree that has a reference to a CSS node in the CSS tree. When the reference exists, optimizer retrieves a CSS rule from the CSS node and appends the CSS rule to the node in the template tree. The compiler compiles the appended template tree.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method for graphically representing the condition of an anatomical structure that is the subject of a medical examination. The method includes displaying a background image representative of the anatomical structure, the image including a plurality of layers corresponding to different layers of the anatomical structure, selecting a layer of the background image, presenting a plurality of symbols, each corresponding to an anatomical pathological state and selected from a group associated with the selected layer, each symbol having a plurality of parameters which determine the rendering condition of a symbol on the background, selecting one of the presented symbols, selecting an X-Y position within the selected layer and displaying the symbol on the selected layer.

Abstract: A content management tool can assist publishers/authors in managing access rights and other parameters related to the display of documents online. The documents may include books and other documents that are traditionally published as printed works. The content management tool may display presentation parameters for the documents that relate to how the documents are to be shown to users when accessing the documents. The content management tool receives modifications to the presentation parameters and applies the modified versions of the presentation parameters to future accesses of the documents by users. The content management tool can, for example, be used to modify the portions of the document available for display, turn on/off certain portions of the document, manage links displayed concurrently with the document, and/or manage advertising related to the document.

Abstract: An exemplary system includes a media control operable to begin playing a media segment automatically after buffering the media segment, and a host application operable to receive a reference to the media segment, initialize the media control with the media segment, and cause the media control to postpone playing of the media segment after the media segment is buffered. An exemplary method includes receiving a playlist referencing a first media segment and a second media segment, the second media segment operable to play automatically without a prompt after being loaded, presenting the first media segment, and prerolling the second media segment.
