Abstract: A digital video system comprises a plurality of recorders and a client device. The recorders store digital video from a common source. The client device comprises a screen, an input device, and a processor configured to run a graphical user interface (GUI). The GUI comprises a timeline, a selection indicator, availability indicators, and event tags. The timeline is adjustable by user input. The selection indicator is movable on the timeline by user input, and designates a time of interest. The availability indicators indicate aggregate availability statuses of video at each time on the timeline, from the plurality of recorders. The event tags indicate types and times or time ranges of events on the timeline. The client device is configured to receive video availability information from the plurality of recorders, and the processor is configured to update the GUI as the aggregate availability status of video changes.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for setting a section of a multimedia file in a mobile device are provided. The apparatus may allow a user to select a section of multimedia file in an intuitive and simple manner. After selecting a multimedia file, the mobile device activates a section selection function of the multimedia file and displays a section selection mark for setting a section. The mobile device then selects the section of the multimedia file by moving the section selection mark along a progress bar indicating a total play time of the selected multimedia file.

Abstract: A media program is displayed on a touch-sensitive screen of an electronic device. On the touch-sensitive screen, a scroll bar and an indicator are displayed. The indicator is configured to be moved along the scroll bar in a first direction or a second direction. A movement of the indicator in the first direction along the scroll bar causes the media program to be navigated forward in time, and a movement of the indicator in the second direction along the scroll bar causes the media program to be navigated backward in time. The indicator is moved along the scroll bar in one of the first and second directions in response to a user engagement of the touch-sensitive screen. The moving of the indicator comprises snapping the indicator to a predefined location on the scroll bar.

Abstract: Systems and methods for generating an overview for videos by reconstructing a representation of underlying content and linking from points in the overview to specific points in the video. Mechanisms are provided to create three different types of navigable overviews for different types of how-to and instructional videos. A two-dimensional overview is generated when content is two-dimensional, such as instructional videos on electronic whiteboard or other flat content. The three-dimensional overview is created when the content is three-dimensional, such as how-to videos illustrating the use of specific three-dimensional tangible articles. In three-dimensional case, when 3D model is available, the video segments are directly linked to corresponding points on the model. When a model is not available, a rough overview is first created from the captured video and camera orientation metadata.

Abstract: Online educational videos are often difficult to navigate. Furthermore, most video interfaces do not lend themselves to note-taking. Described system detects and reuses boundaries that tend to occur in these types of videos. In particular, many educational videos are organized around distinct breaks that correspond to slide changes, scroll events, or a combination of both. Described algorithms can detect these structural changes in the video content. From these events the system can generate navigable overviews to help users searching for specific content. Furthermore, these boundary events can help the system automatically associate rich media annotations to manually-defined bookmarks. Finally, when manual or automatically recovered spoken transcripts are available, the spoken text can be combined with the temporal segmentation implied by detected events for video indexing and retrieval. This text can also be used to seed a set of text annotations for user selection or be combined with user text input.

Abstract: A portable digital television (DTV) comprises a processor, a channel and volume changing button arrangement, and a navigational button arrangement. Either or both button arrangements can be used in at least a bi-modal operation. In a first mode of operation, the button arrangements provide their normal functions, and in the second mode of operation, the button arrangements provide an interactive application interface to the user. Preferably, one of the two button arrangements is selected for the bi-modal operation. The selected button arrangement is associated with at least an optical element for lighting the button arrangement. The controller operates the optical element such that the selected button arrangement has one color in one mode of operation and has a different color in the other mode of operation.

Abstract: A system, computer-readable storage medium storing at least one program, and a computer-implemented method for creating video streams is provided. An indication is received that is related to a first video being received or requested. The first video includes attributes characterizing content of the first video. A second video stored in a database is selected in response to receiving the indication. The selection is based on at least one attribute of the first video. An order of the first video and the second video is determined by one or more processors. The order is based on the at least one attribute characterizing the content of the first video. A video stream is generated on a user display by providing the first video and the second video in the determined order and in a substantially seamless manner.

Abstract: In the present invention, the means of control and navigation 100 of an electronic device 108 are used for viewing an embodiment of a video, wherein said embodiment is a cached or stored “poster-view” 1 that is a representation and a version of a source video. Said poster-view 1 has integration with the content of said source video. This method implements the use of means of control and navigation 100 of said electronic device 108 to extend the contents of said poster-view 1 from an initial form 4 to an extended form 3 and from said extended form 3, retract the contents of the poster-view to said initial form 4, within the spatial bounds of the poster-view.

Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments that facilitate sending input commands to an application over a network that may have variable latency characteristics. Multiple input commands are obtained from a client over the network. It is determined whether a delay before one of the input commands is necessary to preserve the meaning of the input command. The input command is provided to an application executed in a hosted environment in one or more computing devices after the delay when the delay is determined to be necessary.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and products insert markers into recorded media modules. A pair of reference points is received that marks a position and another position in a recorded media module. A copy of the recorded media module is retrieved from memory. Portions of the copy of the recorded media module occurring before the position, and occurring after the another position, are discarded. The copy of the recorded media module occurring between the position and the another position is then presented to a user.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for navigating a media program is disclosed. Viewing data for segments of the media program are monitored and used to compile statistics that are presented to the user in a histogram, so that popular portions of the media program can be identified and navigated to. One embodiment includes a searchable transcript of the media program that is synchronized with the histogram.

Abstract: A thumbnail display screen is displayed. The thumbnail display screen contains a first thumbnail array and a second thumbnail array, in which the images of two groups of frames extracted from a moving image file according to different rules are aligned in the order of appearance in the moving image. The first thumbnail array can be shifted forward or backward via an input apparatus, and the second thumbnail array is shifted in conjunction with a shift of the first thumbnail array. When one of the frames on the thumbnail display screen is selected, the moving image is played from the selected frame or the nearest scene switching point from the frame.

In one embodiment, there is presented a circuit for providing a fast forward video sequence. The circuit comprises a system time clock for providing a time reference, said time reference incremented at a predetermined fast forward rate; a comparator for comparing the time reference with timing information associated with a picture; and a controller for determining whether to display the picture based at least in part on the comparison between the timing information and the time reference.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for navigating in a sequence of images. An image is displayed on a screen. A first object of the displayed image is selected at a first position according to a first input. The first object is moved to a second position according to a second input. At least one image is identified in the sequence of images where the first object is close to the second position. Playback of the sequence of images is started beginning at one of the identified images.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and systems for previewing a recording. In one aspect, the methods and systems are configured to display a video recording/stream in a first viewing window on a display, receive a selection of a time within the video recording/stream at which to preview a portion of the video recording/stream, display a second viewing window on the display, and display the preview of the portion of the video recording/stream that corresponds to the selection within the second viewing window.

Abstract: Embodiments of a multi-screen synchronous slide gesture are described. In various embodiments, a first motion input is recognized at a first screen of a multi-screen system, and the first motion input is recognized when moving in a particular direction across the first screen. A second motion input is recognized at a second screen of the multi-screen system, where the second motion input is recognized when moving in the particular direction across the second screen and approximately when the first motion input is recognized. A synchronous slide gesture can then be determined from the recognized first and second motion inputs.

One embodiment of the interactive presentation environment comprises a meeting recorder adapted to create a recording of a live meeting and a navigation control for selecting a portion of the recording to view during the live meeting. Some embodiment may further comprise a timeline control containing a first graphical indicator associated with a live position and a second graphical indicator associated with a current position, a bookmark control adapted to mark a portion of the recording for archiving, and a display operatively connected to the meeting recorder and the navigation control.

Abstract: The present disclosure involves a method of managing media playback. The method includes displaying a media program on a touch screen of an electronic device. The method includes detecting, via the touch screen, an input from a user indicating that the user wishes to fast forward or rewind the media program. The method includes triggering, in response to the detected input from the user, an appearance of a scroll bar including an indicator on the touch screen. The indicator is configured to be moved along the scroll bar. A length of the scroll bar represents a predefined amount of time that is a fraction of a total duration of the media program. A position of the indicator relative to the scroll bar corresponds to a time location of the media program.

Abstract: Extensible video insertion control is described. In embodiments, a media asset is received to render as video for display. Mapped video data is also received that identifies object insertion spaces in the media asset. A selectable display object is received that conforms to an object insertion space in a scene of the media asset. A composite video is then generated that includes the selectable display object inserted for display in the scene of the media asset at the object insertion space.

Abstract: In embodiments of video playback analytics collection, an analytics script can be distributed to a client device along with video content that is requested by the client device. The analytics script is implemented to identify a type and/or version of a browser application that supports a video player session to playback the video content for viewing at the client device. The analytics script is also implemented to collect video playback data associated with the video content playback, detect an early end of the video player session before the playback of the video content is completed, and initiate communication of the video playback data to an analytics server. The analytics script can also initiate a timing delay to delay a browser navigation away from the video player session, where the timing delay is effective to allow communication of the video playback data to the analytics server.

Abstract: According to a preferred embodiment, there is provided a computer program for use in the creation and editing of multimedia works which provides a much simplified method of selecting and placing multimedia clips, with a length of less than about 20 seconds, into a longer composition. In one preferred embodiment, the user is provided with a graphical user interface where he or she can add to or modify the multimedia content contained therein by simply clicking the mouse above an empty track location, with the replacement clips being chosen and inserted into the work automatically. In another embodiment, the user will specify the screening criteria for a plurality of tracks, which tracks will then be automatically populated with clips according to the user's rules to generate a multimedia work.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for adding and displaying interactive annotations for existing online hosted videos. A graphical annotation interface allows the creation of annotations and association of the annotations with a video. Annotations may be of different types and have different functionality, such as altering the appearance and/or behavior of an existing video, e.g. by supplementing it with text, allowing linking to other videos or web pages, or pausing playback of the video. Authentication of a user desiring to perform annotation of a video may be performed in various manners, such as by checking a uniform resource locator (URL) against an existing list, checking a user identifier against an access list, and the like. As a result of authentication, a user is accorded the appropriate annotation abilities, such as full annotation, no annotation, or annotation restricted to a particular temporal or spatial portion of the video.

Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention provide a method for presenting computer-generated characters. The method defines several frames for a character and sequentially presents the frames. Each frame depicts a particular representation of the character. Also, at least two of the frames provide different representations of the character. Some embodiments provide a method for applying effects to computer-generated characters. This method applies an effect to the computer-generated characters by first generating an effect script. It then selects the generated effect script to apply to the computer-generated characters.

Abstract: An after-action, mission review tool that displays camera and navigation sensor data allowing a user to pan, tilt, and zoom through the images from front and back cameras on an vehicle, while simultaneously viewing time/date information, along with any available navigation information such as the latitude and longitude of the vehicle at that time instance. Also displayed is a visual representation of the path the vehicle traversed; when the user clicks on the path, the image is automatically changed to the image corresponding to that position. If aerial images of the area are available, the path can be plotted on the geo-referenced image.

Abstract: A method and system are disclosed in which a group of people are able to replicate the physical world experience of going with a group of friends to pick a movie, watch the movie together, and provide commentary on the movie itself in the virtual world on a virtual couch while each user is sitting in different physical locations. Additionally, the virtual representation of the destination that the group of people are watching the movie together in can be themed to allow users to watch movies in different locations pivoting on special events or by the users choice.

One embodiment of the system comprises an electronic music player that is connected to a plurality of music renderers via device drivers via a music renderer controller. Each of the device drivers manage a selected music renderer. The device drivers can display a graphical interface for displaying notifications, customized controls, links to websites, or any other type of information desired by the manufacturer of the device driver. The device drivers can also customize the interfaces of the music render to rename textual elements that are displayed by the device driver. Furthermore, the device drivers can command the music player to suspend and resume playback of music items during selected periods.

Abstract: Methods and systems that identify classic videos. A classic video is a video that consistently receives high viewership over a long period of time. A video hosting server identifies a number of views that a video received for each day during a measurement period. For each day, the video hosting server determines whether the day is a high view day based on the number of views for the day. The video hosting server identifies the video as a classic video responsive to the video having a number of high view days that are above a threshold number of days.
