Abstract: A method for configuring a pop-up that displays various types of information on a computer screen, includes providing a graphic user interface that displays a list of types of information capable of being displayed by the pop-up and providing a user configuration system that allows a user to configure the pop-up by selecting from the list of the types of information to be displayed by the pop-up.

Abstract: An online services system provides monitoring of user interaction with third-party content. The monitoring is performed by a script in a web page provided by the online services system, which script provides a timer invoked when the browser leaves the online services system's page for a page comprising third party content. When the online services system serves the page, the browser reads the HTML to render the page, including the script with the timer. When the user leaves the online services system page, the timer begins, and when the browser returns to a page provided by the online services system, the timer ends and duration information from the timer is provided to the online services system. Applications include measurement of the quality of interaction between users and a third party advertisers, in which time spent viewing third party content is a proxy for the quality of the interaction.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for supporting text-based context links for application programs. An embodiment includes a first computer to maintain a database of data objects and a second computer to execute an application program that operates on a file having text elements. In an embodiment, the second computer is to execute a link program to access a data object on the first computer based on a user of the application program having used the application program to select a text element that is related to that data object.

Abstract: Provided is a method and apparatus for providing a user interface for multistreaming audio control. The method includes determining whether a multistreaming mode of an audio device is activated upon receiving from a user a command to execute a popup menu for content, providing play menu items of audio panels to the popup menu for the content if the multistreaming mode is activated, and playing the content through an audio panel selected by the user.

Abstract: A system that alerts a sender of an email message as to the addressees of the email when the email is determined to be sensitive, such as when it includes a word such a “confidential”. The user can allow the message to be sent or go back to a mail create/edit operation where the message or list of addresses can be revised. Trigger words can be stored in a table or database. The system also detects sensitive words in attachments.

Abstract: A graphical user interface system for BITS. The system includes a set of input modules, a set of output modules, and notification modules. The set of input modules allow selection of files for transfer to the BITS Server Virtual Directory and activate BITS functions. The BITS functions may include starting file transfer, cancelling file transfer, retrying file transfer, or removing the selected files. The set of output modules show dynamic status and real-time progress of the transfer automatically upon activation of the transfer of the selected files. The set of output modules also display an error message upon detecting an error in the transfer. Further, the notification modules provide a real-time notification on completion of the transfer.

Abstract: A first element in a graphical modeling environment is selected by a user which results in a plurality of speed buttons adjacent to the first element being displayed. Such speed buttons define operations to be conducted on the first element in connection with a second element. After one of the displayed speed buttons is selected, it can be dragged to a display point. A second element is generated at the display point based on the selected displayed speed button which is linked to the first element. The link can be characterized by the operations defined by the selected displayed speed button. Related techniques, apparatus, systems, and products are also described.

Abstract: At least one unique collection of storage artifacts can be specified to indicate that the storage artifact is a member of the unique collection. Each storage artifact can be a discrete object comprising digitally encoded content that is stored as a node within a tree structure of a tangible storage medium. The collection can be referenced by a set of different storage artifacts to form a collection of related storage artifacts. Each storage artifact can correspond to different collections, wherein membership within a collection is independent of a storage path within the tree structure. A file management action relating to the storage artifact can be performed. The file management action can be dependent upon the storage artifact being a member of the unique collection.

Abstract: A mechanism is provided for providing compartmentalized security in product reviews. A central authoritative state module within a compartmentalized security mechanism identifies a clearance level associated with a user that has been authenticated. Responsive to the clearance level of the user being sufficient to access the information, the central authoritative state module determines whether the information requires a simulation to be executed. Responsive to the information failing to require execution of a simulation, a coordination module in the compartmentalized security mechanism retrieves the information. A display and input interaction module on a client system then displays the information in accordance with the clearance level of the user thereby forming displayed information. Displaying the information in accordance with the clearance level of the user comprises displaying in detail only portions of the information of the product that the user has access to.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for providing custom tooltips to an end-user of a software application. The method includes receiving a selection of a user interface (UI) element associated with the software application; and causing a custom tooltip to be displayed on a display device in response to the selection, where the custom tooltip includes one or more custom tooltip entries associated with the selected UI element created by one or more users.

Abstract: Visual feedback may be provided. First, a continuous contact with a first point on a surface may be detected. The surface may comprise, for example, a touch screen or a touch pad. The continuous contact may be caused by a selecting element comprising, for example, a stylus or a digit of a subject. Then a menu may be displayed in response to the detected continuous contact. The menu may comprise a plurality of menu selectable elements. Next it may be detected that the continuous contact has moved from the first point on the surface to a second point on the surface. The second point may correspond to a one of the plurality of menu selectable elements. Then a control may be displayed corresponding the one of the plurality of menu selectable elements.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided that aid users in customizing notification graphical user interface (GUI) components. In some aspects, the customization interface is driven from the notification interface or window. Users may then manage the position and appearance of a notification window or GUI component from the notification itself. In addition, the user can manage the position of a notification and direction of subsequent notifications from an originating notification.

Abstract: A system and method provide a summary comparison of data. The summary may compare filtered and unfiltered data or one set of filtered data to another. The system presents a status pane or window to a user in conjunction with filtered data that is dynamically updated to correspond to the data. A summary of the filtered data is available for display side by side with other filtered data or unfiltered data. The reports and summary are dynamically updated.

Abstract: Information associated with an unavailable option is provided to a user upon detecting the user's interest in that option in a configuration environment or user interface control environment. The provided information may explain why the option is unavailable, what alternative options may be available, and which actions may be needed to render the option available. The user may be further enabled to unselect conflicting options or re-select among a subset of relevant options to render the unavailable option available without losing the context of the current selection screen.

Abstract: An interactive object property region displayable in a graphical user interface for an application program is disclosed. The interactive object property region is preferably automatically generated in response to a mouse pointer being moved over the object, but may also be affirmatively selected. Preferably, the region is initially positioned proximate to the object when generated. The interactive object property region, preferably a window, displays one or more properties of the selected object, and is interactive in the sense that the user can edit the displayed values in the region without the need to access further menu options in the graphical user interface. For example, in a preferred embodiment, the pointer can be moved from the object to the region to automatically change the displayed properties from a static display to an editable mode. Alternatively, the displayed property as soon as they are generated or can be editable upon affirmative selection.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for a context menu pop-up interface. In one embodiment, the context menu interface may be activated in relation to a second interface, and may include a plurality of selection areas organized around a central selection area. In a preferred embodiment, the sizes of each of the plurality of selection areas increase as a distance to each selection area increases from the central selection area, and the sizes are selected such that the plurality of selection areas can be selected in approximately the same time.

Abstract: An approach is provided for presenting soft reminders (e.g., reminders for notes with no triggering criteria). A reminder manager receives an input, from a user, for specifying a note. The note is not associated with triggering criteria. In response to the request, the reminder manager retrieves contextual information from a device associated with the user, and causes, at least in part, presentation of a reminder of the note based, at least in part, on the contextual information.

Abstract: Method and system for operating tabbed browsing with anti-spoofing protection. Tabbed browsing operates to detect pop-up dialogs sent from malicious web pages operating in a background browser. Keystrokes and keyboard messages are prevented from being delivered to background browsers. Unauthorized movement of background browsers are detected. URLs are inspected before being saved or restored.

Abstract: A method for receiving page-specific user feedback concerning a particular web page of a website includes using a comment icon viewable on the page to solicit one or more page-specific open-ended comments concerning the page from a user. In one embodiment, the method includes using software associated with the comment icon to automatically communicate a request for a comment window to a remote computer system that is separate from a computer system hosting the website in response to the user selecting the comment icon, receive the comment window from the remote computer system, present the comment window to the user, and receive one or more or more page-specific open-ended comments concerning the page from the user provided using the comment window for reporting to a website owner.

Abstract: A method and system is disclosed that allows a user to easily and intuitively operate applications that require contact information, in a touch device, via a tray item associated with the contact information. The method for operating applications includes: displaying a contact tray comprised of a number of tray items based on contact information, on an execution screen; receiving an interaction to use a tray item in the contact tray; configuring an execution screen for an application based on contact information of the tray item; and operating the application based on the configured execution screen.

Abstract: A three-dimensional vehicle scene including an image can be rendered within an interactive user interface. The image can be generated from a model and can be rotatable by user selections of user selectable rotation controls. Vehicle panels can be shown and hidden within the interactive user interface responsive to positionings of an interface pointer. While one of the vehicle panels is shown, user-configurable damage fields can be included in the user interface to describe damage to the vehicle. Input of the damage fields can be used to indicate damage for insurance claim purposes and can be used to update damage indicia on the interface. Damage indicia can be overlaid on top of the image. A damaged vehicle can be shown in the interface by combining (in real-time and at runtime) the image of the undamaged vehicle and the damage indicia, which overlay the image.

In one aspect, an interface repository comprises a set of data schemas defining a license determination rule structure for all available control regulations offered by data providers. In another aspect, license determination rules for a certain product may be automatically extracted from the interface repository.

Abstract: Systems and techniques manage commands generated through user interface dialogs. In general, in one implementation, commands resulting from interaction with controls of a dialog are received, and first and second commands are distinguished. The first command is held upon receipt to be performed later, and the second command is passed through the dialog to be performed upon receipt. Both of the commands are retained in a command sequence managed by a cancel control of the dialog. The dialog can include a preview control operable to specify whether effects of interaction with the controls are to be previewed. The first command can be subject to the preview control, while the second command is not subject to the preview control. Distinguishing between the commands can involve performing the second command but not the first command when the preview control specifies the effects of interaction are not to be previewed.

The user can select between “print” and “send” as an alternative process for the undisplayable data.

Abstract: A lightweight information user interface is provided for displaying information about a focused-on (e.g., mouse-over) text item, data item or other object in an electronic document that minimizes interruption of workflow with the electronic document. Upon focus on a word or other object in an electronic document a quick look-up function may be invoked for retrieving information from a local or remote information source about the focused-on item. Retrieved information, for example, translations, dictionary definitions and research information, is displayed in close proximity to the focused-on item in a lightweight information user interface. Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to methods and devices for graphically managing and manipulating calendar data in a database, in a weekly view and in a monthly view. In either mode, a highlighted element is selected thereby causing a preview window to pop-up to display appointment details. The preview window and the image of the week or the month are displayed simultaneously.

Abstract: A user-activatable dashboard (also referred to as a unified interest layer) contains any number of user interface elements, referred to herein as “widgets,” for quick access by a user. In response to a command from a user, the dashboard is invoked and the widgets are shown on the screen. The user can activate the dashboard at any time, causing the dashboard to temporarily replace the existing user interface display on the user's screen. Once the dashboard has been activated, the user can interact with any or all of the widgets, and can configure the dashboard by adding, deleting, moving, or configuring individual widgets as desired. When the user wishes to return to the normal user interface he or she was working with, the user issues a command causing the dashboard to be dismissed. Once the dashboard has been dismissed, the previous user interface state is restored, allowing the user to resume normal interactions with the operating system.

Abstract: A notification framework delivers notifications in a manner that is appropriate for a user's current experience. An API is implemented in the notification framework and provided to developers to develop applications utilizing such API to communicate with the framework. A display mode of an active application is determined by the framework. A notification generated by an alerting application is captured by the framework. The framework determines a mode of delivery based on the display mode and the notification, and delivers the notification accordingly.

Abstract: A method of operating a multifunction device includes: displaying a respective view of a first application on the touch screen display, detecting a first touch gesture within the respective view, and in response to detecting the first touch gesture, displaying a popup view of the first application partially covering the respective view of the first application. The popup view corresponds to a full-screen-width view in a corresponding first application on a second multifunction device having a touch screen display with lower resolution than the touch screen display of the first multifunction device. The method further includes: detecting one or more second touch gestures within the popup view, and in response to detecting the one or more second touch gestures within the popup view, performing an action in the first application that updates a state of the first application.

Abstract: A mobile terminal and a method of controlling the same are provided. The mobile terminal comprises a display unit displaying a list of items, and a controller receiving a touch input signal for moving at least one of the items to a first region, deleting the at least one item corresponding to the touch input signal from the list, displaying the title of the deleted item in the first region, substituting the deleted item by another item to update the list, and displaying the updated list. Accordingly, an item is selected through a method of moving the item to a specific region, and thus a previously selected item can be prevented from being cancelled due to a wrong operation.

Abstract: Systems and methods for rendering a graphic that describes multiple dimensions of performance for a subject intensive care unit (ICU) over a predefined period of time are provided. One method involves measuring the performance of the subject ICU against various metrics and displaying the measured performance as a graphic constructed of data strips placed adjacent to a 2-dimensional plot. The lengths of the data strips visually represent a percentage of patients that did not receive active treatment in the subject ICU, a rate of readmission to an ICU, and a median of the acute physiological scores (APS's) extracted from patients admitted to the subject ICU, respectively. The 2-dimensional plot includes an X-axis that represents a ratio of a hospital predicted mortality rate value over the measured mortality rate, while a Y-axis represents a difference between a predicted mean length of stay value and the measured mean length of stay value.

Abstract: A method for converting a source document having graphical subject matter into an interactive document includes receiving, via a user interface, input regarding information to be tagged to objects on the source document and tagging information to objects on the source document in response to the input, thereby creating interactive effects based on the tagged information. The interactive effects can include pop-ups, external e-mail and URLs, and other interactive behavioral actions. A set of files that defines an interactive document is automatically created, wherein the interactive document incorporates the subject matter of the source document and includes the interactive effects. In another aspect, a computer readable medium containing instructions for controlling a computer system to perform a method of converting a source document having graphical subject matter into an interactive document is provided.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, user interface and computer program product for detecting an update to a widget on a content page, at least a portion of the content page being presented in a viewable display area of a screen of the device, determining that the updated widget is not within the viewable display area of the screen of the device, and providing a highlighted notification at an edge of the viewable display area, the edge of the viewable display area corresponding to a direction of the updated widget on the page.

Abstract: An interface enables perception of information regarding e-mail communications. The interface includes an e-mail application user interface that enables perception of e-mail message information for one or more e-mails received by an e-mail participant and that enables active display of one or more of the received e-mails selected by the e-mail participant, The interface also includes a mechanism that determines a request for e-mail message information for one of the e-mails from within a desired e-mail message that is not actively displayed. The interface further includes an informational tool tip that provides a temporary perceivable indication to the e-mail participant of at least a portion of the requested information for the desired e-mail message while maintaining active display of the one or more selected e-mails.

Abstract: In various embodiments, a method for receiving alerts through a network includes providing a device having a pop-up management module and a display; providing a communications interface between the device and one or more database systems located outside the network; providing a user interface configured to allow the user to selectively choose to display, on the display, one or more message types generated by the one or more database systems, wherein said one or more message types are received by said pop-up management module via the network and displayed on the display as a pop-up message.
