Abstract: A method for the manufacture of a machine part with external toothing from a circular sheet metal blank. According to this method the blank is fixed between a tool and a tail stock. Subsequently the circumferential edge of the circular sheet metal blank is bent by a first metal working roll towards the side of the tool by an angle of more than 180.degree. to form a curl. • Patent number: 5774986
Abstract: A toothed wheel is cold formed from a circular piece or plate of sheet metal by cold-forming an annular outer section of the sheet metal into a preform, while the sheet metal is held in a rotary holding unit and rotated about its preform axis. While the sheet metal is rotating, a thickening roller works against the sheet metal's an outer annular section to thicken the same and form a wheel having a generally uniform cross-sectional outer annular section and an integral central wall that extends radially inwardly from the outer annular section. The outer annular section is formed by a multi-stage cold rolling process, utilizing different thickening rollers. Then, while the preform is rotating, a curling roller works on the outer annular section to form an axially extending flange, forming a cylindrical or C-shaped wheel to form a final preform. Then, while the final preform is rotating, a tooth forming roller is meshed against the outer periphery of the flange.

Abstract: In a metal spinning process and apparatus for necking down a container having an open end, a closed end and generally cylindrical inner and outer surfaces, a resilient pressure bladder is inserted into the container prior to the necking down operation. Pressure is maintained in the bladder throughout the operation to prevent crumpling of the container body. The invention is particularly useful on thin walled, deep drawn steel containers.

Abstract: A method for the automatic control of the setting of spinning rolls in relation to a cylindrical, tubular workpiece in an opposed roll spinning lathe with four pairs of rolls. Each of the four pairs of rolls consists of one inner roll and one outer roll each, of which is arranged on a holder on a carrier so as to be radially adjustable in relation to the workpiece and so that the pairs of rolls are arranged at equal circumferential spacing about the workpiece so that the roll pair acting as the first rolling stage is placed diametrically opposite the second roll pair operating as the second rolling stage, the roll pair operating as the third rolling stage is offset by 90.degree. in relation to the first roll pair and is diametrically opposite the roll pair operating as the fourth rolling stage so that during the spinning rolling process the pairs of rolls and the workpiece perform a translatory and a rotary motion and furthermore the radial forces acting on the rolls are continuously measured.

Abstract: This invention relates to a ring shaping apparatus for cold rolling workpieces in ring form into a desired shape. The workpieces include a bearing in which an inner race, an outer race or a pillow is to be formed, a cage and a sleeve. The apparatus comprises a shaping roller, a mandrel and a support roller. Rotational rate of the support roller is controlled in response to variations in the diameter of a workpiece and in accordance with a rotational rate of the shaping roller. A pair of backup rollers in rotatable contact with peripheral surfaces of the workpiece under a constant pressure are interlocked to synchronously follow the variations in the diameter of the workpiece. Consequently, this apparatus is capable of shaping the workpiece with high precision with respect to roundness.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for straightening a workpiece, especially a crankshaft, with a theoretical axis and at least one fillet running circularly about this axis, by exerting a pressure on at least one preselected section of the wall defining the fillet, with a tool that can be moved transversely of the axis and laid into the fillet. To reduce the great straightening forces to be applied in the use of known methods and apparatus, the straightening is performed according to the invention by cold-rolling the fillet walls and with the aid of a modified hard-rolling device, the control systems are provided with measuring means for determining the deviations from true running of the main journals of the crankshaft and actuators for the adjustment of the forces applied by the pressure rollers to the fillet walls according to the particular rotary angular position of the crankshaft to values intended for the straightening of the main journals.

Abstract: An apparatus for chamfering through press forming edges of a rim element is provided upstream of a flaring machine for forming a rim shape on a disk wheel manufacture line. The apparatus includes a pair of edge rolls having vertically extending axes and having respective groove members formed therein. A wall of a rim element conveyed into the apparatus is axially squeezed between the edge rolls at the groove members thereof and the edges of the rim element is press formed. Since a rim element conveyed into the apparatus has still an axially straight extending wall, the rim element has a high rigidity in the axial direction of the rim element and therefore, an undesirable deformation does not occur in the rim element during the press forming.

A pair of parallel guide rods receive the base and restrain the base against movement in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the shaft. A lever, pivotally mounted to the base, holds one of the contact points. Movement of the lever controls the magnitude of the force couple and movement of the base relative to the shafts. The lever can be manually operated to lend simplicity to the apparatus.

  • Patent number: RE35519
Abstract: A method and apparatus for smooth-rolling and deep-rolling the journal pins of multi-crank crankshafts divides the crank pins into two groups, each including alternating crank pins, since the space between neighboring crank pins is insufficient for simultaneously rolling all of the pins including the main bearing pins in one operation. Each group of crank pins is then rolled separately in succession, whereby one group includes the main bearing pins. Thus, a crankshaft, including any number of closely spaced crank pins, can be completely machined in two rolling operations. In order to carry out this method a rolling apparatus includes crank pin rolling devices for each of the pins of one group. The rolling devices are axially slideably adjustable in unison between two determinable positions in which they may be fixed or locked after adjustment.
