Patent number: 5842267Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for forming a plurality of parts, such as spade-type boring bits, from a continuous stock material. Thus, the various steps of the forming method of the present invention can be performed to predetermined portions of the continuous stock material, prior to separating the continuous stock material into a number of discrete parts. The efficiency of the forming process is enhanced since individual parts need not be individually transported and oriented during the forming operations. By not requiring that the individual parts be separately transported and oriented during the forming operations, the quality of the parts formed by the forming method and apparatus of the present invention will also be enhanced since such separate transportation and orientation of individual parts generally increases the opportunities for misalignment and contributes to poor tolerance control during the manufacturing process.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 1996Date of Patent: December 1, 1998Assignee: Black & Decker, Inc.Inventors: Ronald R. Patent number: 4553418Abstract: Flat metal strip of indeterminate length is apertured in a punch press having a flying die set to define a lengthwise succession of identical workpiece blanks connected by strap-like portions of the strip adjacent to its longitudinal edges. That press, each time it operates, makes two apertures that define respective end edges of a blank. Patent number: 4210009Abstract: Fine fibres of steel for use as concrete reinforcement are produced by longitudinally slitting continuous steel strip to form narrow strip segments and severing the strip segments at intervals along their length. The strip is slit longitudinally on passing between a pair of nip rollers having intermeshing circumferential tongues and grooves so that penetration of the tongues into the grooves severs the strip longitudinally. The resulting strip segments are passed between chopping rollers which chop them into discontinuous fibres and also deform the thus formed fibre ends to promote anchorage in the concrete.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 1978Date of Patent: July 1, 1980Assignee: Rocla Concrete Pipes LimitedInventors: James D. Patent number: 4052873Abstract: Apparatus for shearing blanks from elongated workpieces and for pressing such blanks into screw blanks, bolts or the like in a continuous operation comprises a plurality of preferably cylindrical rotary elements, rotatable about parallel axes in such a manner that cooperating pairs of rotatable elements are rotated in opposite direction and so that blank receiving members on the rotary elements of each cooperating pair becomes successively aligned with each other. The plurality of rotary elements includes a central rotary element receiving sheared-off blanks and retaining the same during the pressing thereof until the final discharge, and a plurality of additional rotary elements arranged about the circumference of the central rotary element.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1976Date of Patent: October 11, 1977Assignee: Veb SchraubenkombinatInventors: Horst Murzin, Gunter Grygo

Patent number: 4047417Abstract: A method of deep embossing of sheet material, generally metal, is disclosed. A small scale relief pattern is first embossed across the entire sheet and thereafter a deep embossment of spaced-apart protuberances is imparted to the sheet. Both patterns in combination produce a sheet useful for reflective thermal insulation without the risk of significantly puncturing the sheet.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 1976Date of Patent: September 13, 1977Assignee: Johns-Manville CorporationInventors: Nathan Oser, Edmund John Niedzinski
