  • Patent number: 5287714
Abstract: A roll stand for a planetary rolling mill having a housing, and two stationary support members mounted in chocks, with rolling segments and intermediate and work rolls mounted in rotationally driven cages. The support members have a plurality of rolling segments, spaced about an outer surface thereof. By the turning of the support members, the rolling segments can be brought, in each case, into working position. In order to be able to effect a change of the rolling segments while using the favorable torque division of the drive system for the roll cages, the support members (1) are rotatably mounted in their chocks (15) adapted to be clamped (20) in the working position of the rolling segments (16). A drive is selectably engaged to rotate the support member into a new working position.

Abstract: An internal frame carrying vertical rolls of a roll set permanently remains in the mill. The frame consists of spaced-apart cross members tied together on each end by a yoke member. Clamping plates hold the frame down in the mill. Pass line adjustment of the vertical rolls is done through vertical movement of the frame. The yoke on the operating side is removable and is raised and lowered for roll set changing, and is equipped at its top with tracks which in the removable yoke's lower position form part of a rail system in the roll set changing operation. Pins and cylinders hold the removable yoke to the cross members. Stooling pins are automatically engaged in the chocks of the vertical and horizontal rolls forming an interlocking roll set for its removal from the mill.

Abstract: A calender wherein a permanently installed main roll cooperates with at least one exchangeable roll to provide a nip for the passage of a web of paper or the like. The end portions of the exchangeable roll are mounted in bearings which are insertable into and extractible from sockets provided in levers which are pivotably mounted in the frame of the calender. The calender has a transporting unit which is provided with grippers for the bearings and with motors which reciprocate the grippers to extract the bearings from their sockets after the levers are pivoted to positions in which the exchangeable roll is spaced apart from the main roll. The transporting unit thereupon transfers the exchangeable roll onto a mobile rack which can be transported to a station where the exchangeable roll is repaired.

Abstract: An embossing calender for thermoplastics films in which the film is embossed by passage between an embossing roller and a counter-roller and in which the rollers can be rapidly changed or replaced. This is achieved by providing separate support arrangements for the two rollers, which arrangements permit the respective rollers to be displaced into and out of their working positions. The support arrangement for the embossing roller comprises a support member along which at least one holder for the roller is displaceable between a working position and at least one further inoperative position. This permits the selective positioning of each holder and its associated roller. The arrangement for the counter-roller comprises a support which has a pivotally mounted displacement device associated therewith. Abstract: An apparatus and method for removing crushing rolls from a crushing apparatus is disclosed in which arms means mounted on a movable frame supporting movable crushing rolls which move with the movable frame are utilized to remove stationary crushing rolls mounted on a stationary supporting frame to a position at which the stationary rolls may be lifted from the crushing apparatus. With the stationary and movable frames adjacent to each other, the arm means are placed in supporting engagement with the stationary crushing rolls mounted on the stationary frame. The crushing rolls mounted on the stationary frame are then released from its support so that the stationary crushing rolls are supported by the arm means. The movable frame is then moved away from the stationary frame to move the stationary crushing rolls supported by the arm means to a position at which the stationary crushing rolls may be lifted from the arm means.
