    Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming cup-shaped members used in conjunction with a single-acting or a double-acting press having an outer punch assembly, an inner punch assembly and a base. A draw pad and a cutting edge are carried on the outer punch assembly, a draw horn is carried on the inner punch assembly and a blank and draw die is carried on the base. The draw pad and the draw horn oppose the blank and draw die such that the draw pad clampingly engages the blank and draw die in order to exert a clamping pressure on the pressure piston system having first and second pistons vertically stacked with respect to one another. The pressure piston system includes a damping member located within the pressure piston system for continuously increasing the clamping pressure during advancement of the outer punch assembly toward the base of the press.

The inverted cup while supported on the redraw punch is passed through one or more ironing rings to lengthen the inverted cup to form an untrimmed container body having a closed end.

    Abstract: Provided is a method for making a double-walled yoke that allows an inner yoke (4) and outer yoke (3) to be integrally joined to each other both easily and securely. Such a yoke provides an adequate cross sectional area for a magnetic path of the yoke while minimizing the weight of the yoke. A tubular member (14) destined to be form the inner yoke and a cup-shaped member (13) destined to form the outer yoke are both fitted on a punch (7) and a drawing process is executed by using an appropriate drawing die (8). The outer yoke may have a small wall thickness as long as it is capable of retaining its shape during use or supporting a bearing for the motor. The inner yoke is required to be relatively small in size as long it is capable of forming a satisfactory magnetic path for the motor. A satisfactory magnetic path can be obtained if the yoke is provided with an adequate wall thickness so as to provide an adequate cross sectional area for the magnetic path.

The apparatus includes a holding die assembly defining a holding cavity for the forging stock and a press die apparatus including opposed first and second press dies movable within the holding cavity to forge the forging stock to produce the forged product. The holding die assembly may include opposed first and second holding dies defining respective portions of the holding cavity, wherein the holding dies are selectively relatively movable between a closed position for forging the forging stock and an open position for removal of the forged product. Alternately, the apparatus may include a knockout mechanism for dislodging the forged product from the holding cavity. Further, the apparatus may include a mechanism for controlling finning between the first and second press dies while the forged product is being produced.
